At New Pi, we’re passionate about delicious, wholesome, real food. And we know that food tastes best when it’s made from scratch. In fact, we can’t imagine preparing our dishes in the New Pi kitchen and bakery any other way. That’s why we use the same high-quality local and organic ingredients we sell in our stores – like pasture raised local turkeys from Ferndale Market – with time-honored recipes developed by our chefs. Our ingredients have stories: homegrown Iowa stories. Take our sweet potatoes, grown by James Nisly of Organic Greens in Kalona. James grows a special (secret) variety of sweet potatoes for us with care and organic methods, a variety he’s selected for their especially sweet and earthy flavor. Some cooks never tell their secrets: while James’s sweet potato variety is a secret, the reason our food is so good is no secret – it’s simply top-quality local, organic ingredients like James’s sweet potatoes. He delivers them to our kitchen where we roast them and add just a touch of local Great River Maple syrup (made by high school sweethearts Dan & Dorinda Potter and family in their certified organic sugarbush in northeast Iowa), and top them with fresh rosemary and toasted pecans. We take this approach with everything we make, from Chef B’s Organic Cranberry Sauce to our pumpkin and local, organic sweet potato pies (James’s sweet potatoes star again!) made with local cream and local cage-free eggs. If you’d like to cook your own holiday meals, we’re here to provide ingredients that’ll make those family recipes shine. If you’re headed to a holiday potluck, we have the best side dishes you won’t find anywhere else. And if you’d like to skip washing those roasting pans altogether, we have all the classic dishes to make your holiday both delicious and easy on you, so you can sit back and enjoy a mighty fine meal.
