“ Two things we love about working with New Profit are 1) having a partner on our Board of Directors and 2) the New Profit community. The contributions of the former have been priceless, especially in strategic planning, raising growth capital, and measuring student learning. It’s also been great to learn from, collaborate with, and be inspired by the other leaders and organizations in New Profit’s portfolio.” ELLEN MOIR FOUNDER & CEO, NEW TEACHER CENTER
We have created a vibrant ecosystem in which social entrepreneurs can learn from each other and collaborate with philanthropists, researchers, policymakers, and other essential actors who are pursuing systemic change. In addition to facilitating regular, specialized convenings with these actors, we have built two enduring platforms: New Profit’s annual
Gathering of Leaders is a platform for cross-sector dialogue among social entrepreneurs and leaders in philanthropy, business, media, government, and academia. We debate, develop, and advance innovative solutions to some of our country’s most pressing social problems. Together, we accelerate the ability for the most promising solutions to grow their impact to the size of the problems they aim to solve.
America Forward is New Profit’s nonpartisan policy initiative. It unites policymakers with socialentrepreneurs who lead results-driven organizations to advance a public policy agenda that champions innovative and effective solutions to our country’s most pressing social problems. America Forward advances these efforts through the America Forward Coalition, a growing network of more than 50 organizations achieving measurable outcomes in more than 1,000 communities nationwide. Together we promote policy approaches that spur innovation, reward results, and catalyze cross-sector partnerships.

New Profit is on the leading edge of one of the most exciting social innovation funding models in the country. We are a partner in funding the Massachusetts Juvenile Justice Pay For Success Initiative, launched in February, 2014. In the Pay for Success (Social Impact Bond) model, New Profit joined other private investors to invest $18M in an antirecidivism program administered by Roca, Inc. to help nearly 1,000 at-risk young men avoid future incarceration. If Roca meets or exceeds goals, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts reimburses the investors. This is a bold new way to scale effective innovations and catalyze public-private partnerships, directing resources to what works and broadening our scope of field leadership. Through its Workforce Innovation Fund (WIF), the U.S. Department of Labor awarded the state an $11.7M grant to be used as additional success payments for the Roca pilot, expanding the project to serve more than 1,300 young men. America Forward, New Profit’s policy arm, helped secure these funds at the federal level and continues to be a leader in expanding Pay for Success policy approaches.
