Inspired by his travels to Portugal, Spain, and Morocco, as well as his love for ancient Roman architectural materials, interior designer Paul Schatz, has conceptualized a timeless collection that contrasts symmetry and urban grid patterns with dramatic color and calm neutrals.

Using complementing or contrasting elements made of natural stone and/or basalto, or the combination of both, Counterpoint is a “timeless yet current” collection by paul schatz for new ravenna. basalto, a natural lava form present throughout the collection, was often used by roman architects to adorn classic and ancient buildings. the counterpoint collection features both mosaic and waterjet geometric patterns in interlocking shapes and contrasting colors.

“For me, it was imperative to design a collection that reflects the local Mediterranean vernacular while embracing a contemporary palette of color and texture. My influences are taken from the simple joy found in a market square to mesmerizing mosaic facades. The honing process at New Ravenna replicates the texture of stone that has been worn by centuries of salt air. When we live with mosaic, we embrace the harmony of texture and color.”
