Alex Bernstein Alex Gabriel Bernstein (B. 1972) presents a bold and refreshing exploration of visual form and storytelling through the art of glass. Bernstein skillfully combines metaphor with the impact and optical quality of glass. His cast, carved, and polished glass sculptures provide the viewer with intimate narrative landscapes, drawn from light, form, and color. Alex explores ideas about the passage of time and the processes of creation and transformation. The forms of Bernstein’s pieces, as well as the techniques he uses to work the glass, mirror processes in nature such as oxidation, erosion, growth, and decay. As a result, many of his pieces evoke images of flowing water, ice crystals, mountain peaks and jagged canyons, all structures that seem solid and unyielding but are actually in constant flux. Alex holds an M.F.A. in glass sculpture from the School for American Crafts at RIT. His work is included in numerous collections, including those of the Corning Museum of Glass, the Glasmuseum Frauenau in Germany, the Mellon Financial Corporation, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and the Palm Springs Art Museum.

Andrew Cotton Andrew Cotton (B. 1980) Originally from North London, Cotton received his art education at the prestigious Central St. Martins School of Art in Holborn, London. Although there is an edgy style that spans his repertoire of contemporary portraits, urban landscapes, and abstract explorations, there is also a certain authenticity that dates back generations. Cotton’s father and grandfather owned a printing company in East London doing printing and design work for large retail and clothing stores. Cotton grew up seeing first-hand the techniques of block, offset, silkscreen, and commercial printing processes and pulls direct inspiration from those early formative years through his own use of wheat pasting, paper collage, and large-scale Xerox prints. Being a teenager in East London during the graffiti boom, Cotton was immediately drawn to the pioneers of the UK graffiti scene. But, wanting to develop his career as an international artist, he found himself residing in New York City at the early age of 24. Here he found inspiration in the DIY aesthetic of the street art market. Currently, his artwork has been represented in contemporary galleries in the US and he has been showcased at international art fairs.

RETNA RETNA (B. 1979) is is an American street artist known for his unique typography and letterforms. Each block of text is a sophisticated system of hieroglyphs, calligraphy and illuminated lettering. With influences extracted from Arabic, Egyptian, Hebrew, Anglo-Saxon (or Old English) and Native American mythologies, RETNA’s unique vocabulary communicates a personal form of poetry; one that reflects the harsh realities of urban life, while granting itself access to metaphysical considerations. RETNA employs ancient totemic symbologies as a baseline, overlaid with rhythms from the urban jungle. These are sourced from his youth in Los Angeles, born from Pipil (western indigenous El Salvadorian), Cherokee, Spaniard and African American bloodlines. Born Marquis Lewis on March 24, 1979 in Los Angeles, CA, he joined the Los Angeles mural scene as a teenager, developing his text-based signature style featuring intricate line work, complex layering, and a wide range of color. Painting with a brush in addition to a spray can, the artist achieves highly detailed line work. He has exhibited at venues throughout the world, notably including L.A. Art Machine in Los Angeles, Don Gallery in Milan, Yves Laroche Galerie d’Art in Montreal, and Art for All in Malaga, among others. The artist continues to live and works in Los Angeles, CA. 8

Marlene Rose Marlene Rose (B. 1967) is an inter nationally known award-winning sculptor who produces stunningly beautiful works of art in her chosen medium, sand-cast glass. Each piece is hand cast from molten glass into a unique modern work of art that resonates with references and allusions to ancient cultures and civilizations. The rawness of Rose’s work is obtained by pouring molten glass into molds made of sand and combining with the hardness of steel frames. Seen in museums and fairs across the US and Europe, her works are collected by the Imagine Museum, St. Petersburg, FL; National Gallery for Foreign Art, Sofia, Bulgaria; Mobile Museum of Art, Mobile, AL; Muskegon Museum of Art, Muskegon, MI and Museum of Contemporary Art, Yerevan, Armenia.

Purvis Young Purvis Young (1943 - 2010) is among the most important self-taught artists to have emerged from the Outsider Art movement. Young transcended the labels of “Outsider” and “Self Taught” and is today considered one of the forefathers of Street Art. His work is collected by over 60 museums including the Museum of Modern Art, NY, The Philadelphia Museum of Art and the DeYoung Museum in San Francisco and shown at influential art fairs around the world. He was born in Miami’s Liberty City and grew up on the streets of Overtown. Encouraged and influenced by his Bahamian uncle, Young began creating art as a child, but at age 18, life in the ghetto took a wrong turn and caught up with Purvis when he was arrested for breaking and entering and sentenced to 4 years in the State Prison at Raiford. Upon his rehabilitation and subsequent release, he began selling his works of art as a means of survival.

Daum Daum, the legendary glassmaker master, has kept alive for more than a century. A love relationship with the greatest artists of its time, giving their work of art a second life in crystal and colours. From the Ecole de Nancy, from Art Nouveau to Art Decoratif, from Majorelle to Dali and Arman. Daum has not missed any of the magic rendez-vous of the artistic creations and modern savoir-faire, which has always renewed the alliance of art and art craft. Few brands have worked with as many artists: for nearly 140 years, more than 350 exceptional signatures have constituted a heritage beyond compare, a truly unique collection. How to convey those works into crystal sculptures? This is where Daum’s secret lies, shaper of the exception, highly knowledgeable workshop, laboratory of wonders, designer of incomparable objects.

David Salle OverUnder is a new portfolio of five prints by American artist David Salle (B. 1952). In these new works a stylized tree vertically bisects the picture plane. A man in what seems to be black and white pajamas appears to have stopped a woman wearing a white bikini and dark sunglasses. Salle creates a screwball Garden of Eden replete with canonical symbolism and implied moral conflicts. The juxtaposed protagonists are inspired by the works of illustrator Peter Arno, whose cartoons exemplify the sophisticated visual style of The New Yorker magazine from 1925 to 1968. “A single tree acts as a visual divide or barrier between the sexes, men on one side, women on the other— the ambiguous relationship between the subjects and the sometimes-madcap situations in which they have found themselves ensures that the full story remains just beyond our grasp.” Salle’s paintings can be found in the collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, the Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Tate Gallery in London, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., among others.

Dominic Besner Dominic Besner’s (B. 1965) work is often indicative of architectural structures. The inherent shapes of his art allow the artist the ability to depict a fantasy version of the city and its characters. Although the city is first and foremost an invention of the artist, it is often inspired by the formal architecture characteristic of medieval cities. The crosses, arches, arched windows, and towers are all recognizable elements of the medieval era. The layering of structures creates tension in the image, which cannot be read in a linear perspective. The painter combines a certain treatment of context and the artistic vocabulary of a period in time. Besner’s characters, which often appear to be in masks, are symbolic of the theatre. Their expression of the ephemeral in life is rarely melancholy. The character is active, as a thinking being, or one that amuses. Although the character may sometimes appear as a figure plucked straight from the circus, it also represents figures we might meet at a highly formal reception. Besner’s characters enjoy unraveling themselves in front of us. The character is fully aware of our presence; it watches us, possibly even asking us the same questions which inspired the artist to create

18

them. Besner’s use of animals is as a symbolic iconography. They illustrate the profound and brutal passions that are at the core of history, mankind, and life on earth. Through the animal’s appearance and position, the artist paints the intensity surrounding him. This liveliness takes shape in his imaginary city, where violence and pleasure abound. The animal’s nature is an expression of the forces of life which can embody the playful or combative aspects of the soul. Besner’ completes his settings by adding fine black lines to evoke space or landscapes, a pattern, or a new figure. The line drawings also mark movement. Drawing allows the artist to reassert himself through and allows the spectator to gain entry into the artist’s pictorial practice.

Salvador Dali Salvador Dali (1904-1989) In 1929 he was formally invited to join the Surrealist group in Paris. After meeting Surrealist poet Paul Eluard and his wife Gala, he fell in love with the poet’s wife and ran away with her. The following year Dalí and Gala settled at Port Lligat, Spain. In 1934, at the age of 30, Dalí exhibited a group of drawings and engravings inspired by the Comte de Lautréament’s Chants de Maldoror, where he first met Pierre Argillet, a photographer and publisher who would encourage him to publish his visual interpretations of many more auspicious literary works. Argillet himself published many of Dalí’s etchings and drypoints from 1960 to 1973. In 1939 Dalí was formally expelled from the Surrealists for his return to a more classical style and because he refused to support their political agenda. His outrageous statements, such as, “I am Surrealism”, further infuriated his Surrealist colleagues, who felt his ego could no longer be contained within the group. In 1940 the Dalís fled France shortly before the Nazi invasion. Picasso paid for their passage from Lisbon to America where they lived for eight years in Virginia, California and New York City, respectively. In the United States, Dalí made initial contact with some of his greatest patrons, and he collaborated with Walt Disney on Destino (finally released in the spring of 2004) and with Alfred Hitchcock on the dream sequence in Spellbound. Upon their return to Europe in 1949 the Dalís continued to live together for two additional decades, but in 1969 Gala moved to Pubol Castle, and permitted Dali to visit her by invitation only. After Gala’s death in 1982, with his muse was gone, Dali’s creative fervor was drastically

major exhibitions of his works in cities around the world including Tokyo, London, Paris, Italy and Moscow. Before his death on January 23, 1989, Dalí even witnessed the inauguration of two museums dedicated to exhibiting his art, The Salvador Dalí Museum in Cleveland, Ohio (now in St. Petersburg, Florida) and his own Teatre-Museu in Figureres, where he is buried. Salvador Dali is one of the most celebrated artists of all time. His fiercely technical yet highly unusual paintings, sculptures, graphic works and visionary explorations in film ushered in a new generation of imaginative expression. Salvador Dalí was many things to many people: painter, etcher, sculptor, magician, aspiring alchemist. His parents regarded him as the reincarnation of his deceased older brother Salvador, and they made Dalí his namesake. Living in his brother’s shadow from his birth, the younger Salvador Dalí formed a unique point of view of the world. Visual references to his ever-present, ever-absent brother, the passive figure of a slender man casting a long shadow, would appear in many of Dalí’s works.

Borowski Glass In 1990, Stanislaw Borowski (born in 1944 in Moutiers, France) , together with his two oldest sons Pawel and Wiktor, founded the Glasstudio Borowski in Konigswinter, Germany. Since 1993 Pawel and Wiktor run the family business. The Borowski artists created a separate niche within the studio glass movement with their distinctive high-quality sculptures which have gained worldwide recognition. Today, Borowski ranks among the world’s most prestigious art glass studios. With their father, the brothers design glass pieces for all three parts of the collection: the Artist Editions, the Studio Line and the Outdoor Objects. Sometimes one of them is responsible solely for a particular piece although often they collaborate. Their work is included in major private collections as well as international art museums. The Borowski family’s work reflects the tradition begun with their father, a master glassblower for many decades whose work is highly regarded and collected internationally. Their pieces show a love of color as well as a playful approach to glass. Several techniques including blowing, sandblasting and engraving are often incorporated. The results are very unique and highly desired by lovers of glass. Artist Statement The substance of glass is, for us, a matter of pure fascination. There is no other material that allows for so many ways of manipulation and bold creativity. Our enthusiasm is reflected in our handmade, innovative, and

impressive objects and sculptures. To design and build our sculptures, to create objects or to make imagery appear within the glass itself, we have also applied techniques that had almost vanished. The results are art objects that reflect images of space, freedom, individuality, and enjoyment. We hope you will enjoy our fascinating and colourful glass objects as well.

Jennifer JL Jones Jennifer J L Jones (B. 1971) is an American artist raised in rural Virginia and on the central east coast of Florida. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Illinois. An exploration of beauty and energy, Jones’ mixed media paintings are a meditation on the dichotomy of the existence of nature both as corporeal reality and intangible spirituality. Employing multiple layers of abstraction and combined mediums including a refined glazing technique, she creates rich, organic patinas that evoke universal emotional and physical connecting points for the observer. Layers of paint create a palimpsest quality to the work, elegant, ever-shifting paintings combining a poetic, sensual grace with consistently bold execution.

Joan Miro Born in Barcelona, Spain Joan Miro (1893-1983) exhibited his artistic talents at a very young age. He studied at the Academy of Barcelona and later at the Academy of Francisco Gali, where he was influenced by the Fauves, Impressionists and Cubists. Miro departed for Paris in 1919 where he became friendly with Picasso. Miro was part of the group that signed the first Surrealist Manifesto in 1924 and although his style was Surrealistic, it bordered on the fantastic. Miro’s senses of the marvelous and humor are ever-present in his work. His ballet costume and set designs, his collages and large pastels reflect his capacity for re-invention and change. Miro engraved some fifty prints, mostly etchings and aquatints, with some dry-point etchings. As in his painting at the time, he was most influenced by Pollock and abstract expressionism. In 1967 Miro was introduced to a new technique: silicon carbide engraving. Miro thought the results from this new process fascinating and very beautiful. He felt he could create with more richness and freedom...which give a beautiful substance and a more powerful line. The engravings created between 1928 and 1983 reveal Miro conquering this most unforgiving of mediums where there are no second chances. He illustrated more than 1100 frontispieces and illustrations that adorn collections of verse. These illustrations and hundreds more testify to Miro’s deep understanding of the combined power of poetry and art and to his phenomenal talent as an engraver.

Vladimir Prodanovich Vladimir Prodanovich (B. 1952) in Belgrade, Yugoslavia in 1952 and began his artistic career at age 7with enrollment in a local art academy where he gained merit and the attention of his teachers. At age 13 he was invited to be an apprentice to a noted Yugoslavian artist, where honed his artistic skills and deepened his understanding of the great masters. In 1983 at the age of 31, Vladimir boarded a plane for “the promised land of America” with $300 in his pocket. Settling in Philadelphia with imperative financial needs, Vladimir earned a living painting cars, homes and billboards, while learning English, but he never abandoned his personal art. Three years later, Prodanovish drove to California where he lived for 27 years and established himself as a serious artist. His artwork, described as neo-expressionist, is highly textured and vibrant. The brilliance in Prodanovich's work comes from the artist's masterful ability to combine seemingly opposite colors to create works of art percolating with energy. Composition and form can vary widely from pure abstraction to figurative. Prodanovich is perhaps best known for drawing inspiration from historical masterworks, modernizing and transforming mature themes into completely contemporary art that is at once deeply rooted in tradition yet thoroughly modern. Vladimir Prodanovich's paintings and sculptures are in numerous private and corporate collections, including the Holocaust Museum in Cathedral City, CA and the Desert Aids Project in Palm Springs, CA. In 2011 he was awarded the prestigious “Ellis Island Medal of Honor” in NYC. With this award, he joins an elite group of people which includes six United States Presidents, Rosa Parks, Frank Sinatra, General Colin Powell, Mohammed Ali, Quincy Jones and Jerry Lewis. The Ellis Island Medal of Honor and the Congressional Medal of Honor are the only two medals recognized by the United States Congress. In 2000, the Medal was carried into space aboard the space shuttle Challenger.

Hunt Slonem Inspired by nature and his 60 pet birds, Hunt Slonem is renowned for his distinct neo-expressionist style. Since 1977, Slonem (B. 1951) has had more than 350 exhibitions at prestigious galleries and museums internationally. and his work is held in over eighty museum collections worldwide, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, and the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City. The artist holds onto his title of merry maestro and achieves a new level of mischievous maturity, evolving beyond the painterly renditions of his favorite flora and fauna. He embarks on a journey that explores eccentric airs of contemporary art making propelling his art into a new, refreshing realm of glass ears, bright lights, glowing fur, and polished bronze. This migration to a more ultramodern and state-of-the-art fashion pleasantly persuades the viewer to follow him into an edgy yet frolicsome kingdom of chic studio production. Reactions are instantaneous as we bask in his new regales of audacious macrocosms guided by his ingenuity and technique. Fragile sensibilities of material are juxtaposed by ludicrously portrayed aristocracy. Neither gaudy nor kitschy, the immeasurable depictions are golden in their delightful executions perfectly compliment his treasured paintings.

Mr. Brainwash Mr. Brainwash (B. 1966) is the moniker of eccentric French filmmaker turned street artist, Thierry Guetta. After years filming his cousin Space Invader, Banksy and Shepard Fairey, he put down the camera and picked up a spray-can and quickly became one of the world’s most prolific street artists. A maverick of the art world, Mr. Brainwash has a trademark positive message and playful spirit that has taken the art world by storm. Born in 1966 in Garges-les-Gonesse, France, Guetta moved to Los Angeles with his family when he was 15 after his mother passed away and occupied himself as an amateur videographer as a way of preserving the memories of family and friends. He opened a vintage clothing store in Los Angeles and quickly learned the power of branding. On a visit to France, Guetta filmed his cousin, the street artist Space Invader and the experience changed his life.

Pablo Picasso In the history of modern art, Pablo Picasso’s (B. 1881) genius has been nearly universally agreed upon. The story of the life and work of this formidable and extraordinary man, who mastered the drawing of the human body at age 13 and as a mature artist, literally shaped the nature of modern art is well chronicled. Independent and strong-willed, Picasso had established his own studio in Barcelona by 1899 and at age 18, he entered into the social, cultural and political life of the modern movement. He frequented the new café El Quatre Gats, a center for artists and cultural intellectuals who introduced Picasso to Art Nouveau and Symbolist influenced poster work, as well as anarchist politics. After 1900, Picasso spent much of his time in Paris, remaining there from 1904 to 1947, when he moved to the south of France. Outstanding among the masters of the ages, he remains one of the great legends of the Western world. In the summer of 1946, at the age of 64, Pablo Picasso, Françoise Gilot and companion, Louis Fort, attended the annual pottery exhibition

in Vallauris. It is here, he met ceramicist, Suzanne Ramié. He took great interest in the artisan ceramic market of this region and was excited by the possibilities of this new medium. Picasso went on to befriend Georges and Suzanne Ramié and became captivated by their Madoura Pottery Studio. Picasso would return to Vallauris in the summer of 1947, after an invitation from Suzanne Ramié herself. Over the next 25 years Picasso’s collaboration with the Ramié’s would create over 3,500 plates, vases, pitchers and other forms. Picasso would work with Madoura Studio until around the time of the artist’s death in 1973.

Andy Warhol In 1970, 4 series of Andy Warhol's (B. 1928) original silkscreens were reproduced to create a new series of screenprints in new color variations. These were named “Sunday B Morning” prints. These prints are recognized as authentic reproductions in Andy Warhol’s catalogue raisonne, with some of them being signed by Warhol himself using the phrase: “this is not me. Andy Warhol.” These prints are made from reproductions of Warhol’s original silkscreens from 1967. Their dimensions are 35.5 inches square and are printed on museum board/paper with high quality archival inks just like the originals.

Henri Matisse Henri Matisse (1869 – 1954) was a French artist, known for his use of colour and his fluid and original draughtsmanship. He was a draughtsman, printmaker, and sculptor, but is known primarily as a painter. Matisse is commonly regarded, along with Picasso and Marcel Duchamp, as one of the three artists who helped to define the revolutionary developments in the plastic arts in the opening decades of the 20th century, responsible for significant developments in painting and sculpture. Although he was initially labelled a Fauve (wild beast), by the 1920s he was increasingly hailed as an upholder of the classical tradition in French painting. His mastery of the expressive language of colour and drawing, displayed in a body of work spanning over a half-century, won him recognition as a leading figure in modern art. Henri Matisse was born December 31, 1869, in Le Cateau in northern France.
