Most people in the Body of Christ DON’T CARE about the person living next door to them! Statistically, people who attend church would rather not have homosexuals, people with tattoos and people from a race other than their own, as members of their church. Put another way, the church doesn’t want the world in their pews and the non-church goers generally feel that the church is a club. This information comes from Eric Erickson of 10:2 Strategies, who compiled this data from reports received from a large main line denomination. And true to form, after calling 4,000 people here in Villa Rica, we were shocked by the results. Our team actually talked to about 1,000 people. (May the Lord bless them for their work). We invited people to a church service if they didn’t already have church home and offered prayer for all, regardless of their church affiliation. Nearly 80% of those who already attended a church said that they needed nothing by way of prayer. REALLY?!!!!!! NOTHING?!!!! We were not asking them to pray with us over the phone, rather that a team of people would pray off line. There is no wonder the nation is in the shape it is in. So as long as I’m good, I’m not concerned about anybody else? Is that how a walk with Christ goes? Let me get this right, if my needs are met, I am all out of needs? Wow! Well, there you have it. If this is your position, don’t complain about Washington D.C. ever again. Don’t gasp about the drug problem in America, and leave the gay community alone. To the extent that you are smug in your Christianity, it will be reflected in the lack of active concern for others. May the Lord have mercy on us. The survey was right, we don’t like them, and they don’t like us. Thank God Jesus died for everybody! Consider this - we who name Christ have a window open where grace is being poured out. During this time our hearts had better change towards love or it will be trouble when the Lord returns. In a literal sense, there are people who are dying in your neighborhood. We talked to some of them on the phone. It is easy to see the reason for the increase in wickedness in the last days. Where there is a lack of love and a lack of light, darkness prevails. (See Matthew 24:12 and Genesis 1:1-3) What’s more shocking than this information is that on Sunday morning people will go to church for a few hours, return home and never help anyone with their experience. The following week they will do the same. Throughout the year this will be repeated through Christmas, birthdays, graduations and the playoffs for all sports. Along the way, there will be complete disgust with way the world is going, and contempt for those who do evil. But Romans 14:12 reveals how God thinks, “Therefore, each of us will give an account of himself to God.” We are all being warned. Read Matthew 25 about the
Ten Virgins. 1 “At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2 Five of the virgins were foolish, and five were wise.” You, my friend are in one of those two categories. Everyone has an eternal destiny. By receiving Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you can inherit the right destiny. It cost Jesus his life to get you back, therefore please read the remainder of Matthew 25 so that you fully understand the heart of God on this matter and avoid the shock of a lifetime.

seconds to four minutes to form an opinion about someone. In that short, crucial time frame, decisions are made about you that you can’t always undo. You’re probably saying, “I don’t care what anybody thinks about me.” That’s very nice if you’re Oprah, if not, keep reading! How you present yourself to the world, is how the world treats you, period! I wear a lot of black. I love it. It’s sophisticated, elegant and classic. It always looks good, and let’s not forget, slenderizing! Because I wear so much of it, I can create the perfect backdrop for accessories. That’s where the color and textures come in. From my favorite red handbag that always gets compliments; to pearl earrings and necklace, that keep me ready for any occasion, and it takes no time. Because my approach is classic and polished, I shine through. Because the bottom line is - it’s about you. Don’t get stuck behind labels. Focus on what makes you unique and different. It’s your show and everything else needs to play a supporting role. I’m going to take this a step further. There are some types of accessories that you may not have given much thought to lately, but I’m going there. Your smile and confidence are non-negotiable. Don’t leave home without them. What about the people in your life? Just like wearing the wrong color can make you look drawn or not quite your best, toxic people can have the same effect. Be very careful about your inner circle. Just like the perfect outfit, the right people in your life can make you look and feel fabulous too.

Preparing for the Holidays By GEMC Federal Credit Union, www.gemc.org, in partnership with Georgia Credit Union Affiliates. CONSIDER THIS: According to the Midyear 2014 Consumer Survey conducted by the Georgia Credit Union Affiliates (GCUA), 46.6 percent of respondents indicate they will look for ways to earn extra money during the upcoming holiday season, with 23.7 percent hoping to make more than $1,000. Why so much? Gallup.com reported in 2013 the average American household would spend $740 during the holiday shopping season. With the season approaching, where will consumers turn to obtain the cash they need to fund extra expenses? “This is a great time to earn extra money by doing what you love most gift wrapping, quilting, creating unique gift baskets, baking delicious pastries (or) cakes, making crochet hats, anything is a possibility” Culbertson said. “Get started early by taking samples to work, school and church. Take orders and be prepared to earn extra cash for holiday spending. In addition to earning new money, proper money management can also be useful during this time.” “This begins with proper planning. Set personal goals for your holiday spending. Then have fun shopping for bargains and sales. Spend less with no stress by shopping smarter,” he said. “Also, purchasing gift cards for others can control impulse buying and cut down on emotions about buying the perfect gift. Start buying a gift card from the credit union every two weeks to avoid overspending.” Consumers can also look to their credit union as a resource for additional funds. “GEMC Federal Credit Union offers a Christmas Club Account. Members can save a little bit at a time throughout the year, and then in November the savings automatically go into your checking account to be used for holiday shopping. Accounts like this are a great way to prepare yourself financially for the holiday season,” said Culbertson.

Ninja Escapades - Tells the backstory of three major story arcs for Naruto Shippuden. Free Battle - You can face the computer or friends in several fighting game modes, like survival or team battle. If you’re a fan of the series this game is a good extension, but if you’re a newcomer you may get confused. The controls are slightly complicated, but once you understand them they offer a good feel to the anime. Unfortunately the tutorial is placed between game modes. Still, the game is a good game and can provide some fun. It gets a 3 out of 5.

Senior Living Tips on Admission
By Melissa Murphy. Administrator at Pine Knoll Nursing & Rehab Center, Carrollton, 770.832.8243, mmurphy@cypresshealthgroup.com I started my career in long-term care more than twenty years ago and have been an Administrator for more than ten of those years. Every now and then I’m needed to work in the Admissions role and that means I get to take a lot more phone calls than normal. By far, the most asked question I get when I am taking those calls is, “How do I get Mama in the nursing home?” I thought I’d do my public service today and answer that question in this column. First thing you need to know is that only a physician can give the order for a person to be admitted to a rehab or long-term care facility. Your primary care physician will have to fill out some paperwork and sign an order that says you require this type of care. The paperwork is essentially the same for every rehab facility. There are a couple of forms that are required by the state of Georgia and a few more that may vary from facility to facility. The office staff in your physician’s office may or may not know what forms are required. If you need these forms, please feel free to call us at Pine Knoll and we will get them to you. The second thing you need to know is that if there happens to be a hospitalization, make sure you take advantage of the help offered. More than 95% of the residents in my facility right now came here from the hospital. The hospital has social workers and discharge planners and doctors available to sign papers. If you think a short-term rehab stay or a long-term care stay is in the future, by all means utilize the resources at the hospital! From

an administrative and payment source standpoint, this is by far the best way for all involved. Remember, if you have had a hospital stay in which you were actually admitted to the hospital for at least three nights, your Medicare benefits will pay for a stay in a rehab facility for a short period of time, provided you require skilled care (either rehabilitation or nursing care) on a daily basis. If there is no hospitalization, have your primary care physician fill out and sign the forms discussed above. Once these forms are signed and dated, they are good for up to 30 days. Make an appointment to speak to someone at each facility you are interested in being admitted to. Take the paperwork from the physician with you to the appointment. If the facility has an opening and feels they are able to meet your needs, they may offer a bed that day. Most often there is a waiting period. The representative from the facility should be able to explain the process to you and answer your questions about payment. You will most likely need to be able to provide your Medicare or insurance card and show your ID or driver’s license. If you have any documentation of a legal representative such as a Power of Attorney or an advance directive, please also provide this to the facility at your appointment. It will speed up the process.

Usually held the evening before the funeral, and lasting from two to six hours, this form of gathering provides a welcome opportunity for friends to stop by, pay their respects, and offer emotional support to you. Often, the immediate family arrives a bit early to have some private, personal time with the person who
creates a celebration of your loved one’s life and reflects your family’s personalities. Family dynamics are all so different, but one thing remains true across most all families belief systems, and that is taking a moment to remember. We, as funeral directors, call these moments “having visitation”. But “having a visitation” truly only means creating a time, during an impossible moment, and allowing others close to you to help you with their love, support, and meaningful stories. Even if you choose not to have a service or funeral, it’s important to pause and have a time of remembrance (a.k.a. having a visitation). The reason for that is because your friends, family, and community will create a time to have their moment of remembrance with you. They usually will not even realize what they are doing, but the moment they see you in the store,
has died. Remember to talk about life with the ones you love the most. Death is so painful that it’s sometimes hard to look back and remember the importance of planning ahead. So instead, remember to just have “The Talk of a Lifetime” with anyone in your family. Challenge yourself to tell stories that are not often times remembered. I recently read a story about a lady who wrote her own obituary while she was still alive in the hospital, and it’s so

Don’t Retire to Expire
Are You Giving Retirement A Thought Yet? By Bob Bradshaw, Certified Retirement Coach, coachbobb@comcast.net, dontretiretoexpire.com Retirement is a phase of life that we don’t seem to grasp until we are deep into it. There are some who do a good job of planning and seem to get the idea. A lot of us don’t pay attention until it is too late. The act of smiling can be a powerful weapon in our lives. I don’t know about you, but I like to smile. I like being around people who smile a lot, who laugh a lot and seem to enjoy life. How about you? It has been suggested that smiling adds years to your life. They say that it takes fewer facial muscles to smile than it takes to frown (wrinkles). I have had the opportunity to speak with many people who are at various stages of their retirement. The conversations are always interesting because no two couples, people, who are in retirement, are really very different. At
I have watched and shared the adventures of Mike, who just decided to create his bucket list and cross off almost every activity known to man. Mike was a skiing buddy of mine and was determined that he would never be bored. He took race car driving lessons, sky diving and became a scuba diver. He had always been active and he continues doing things that interest him and his wife. Another couple I know moved to Florida, where they literally took over the senior community in which they lived, and remained active playing tennis and almost any activity available. They recently purchased an RV and are off on a journey to see all the national parks. Not everybody has this type of energy or the financial resources. For you, this might not be your idea of retirement. Almost everyone I interview about their upcoming retirement, emphatically declares that they will never retire. When I ask them what they are going to do, they don’t really have an answer. They know they have to do something, but haven’t got down to figuring it out. I simply tell them that if you don’t know where you might want to go, you generally end up not knowing where you are. Retirement is something that will have phases, just like living and working

Organizing Tips
Do’s and Don’ts for Living Life Organized By Joyce Maxwell, Speaker, Designer, Organizer and Recent Recipient of the “Woman of the Year- 2013” by Douglas Co. Chapter ABWA. 770.312.0100, joyce@makeyourhomeahaven. com.
Are you facing yet another holiday season with left over clutter from last year? Every year you vow this will never happen again, yet despite your best intentions it does. Maybe you’re thinking there’s no hope; however, let me reassure you - there is! It’s still possible to end the year more organized than when it began. Just remember these simple do’s and don’ts and you will be headed in the right direction in no time.
1. Don’t attempt to do everything in one day! Your clutter didn’t just appear in one day and it won’t go away in one day. Pace yourself and take one baby step every day until living without clutter becomes a habitual way of life.
2. Do take a realistic look at your schedule and commitments. Look at your calendar and set aside several 15 to 30 minute segments specifically for organizing.
3. Do whatever is necessary to keep those appointments once they are on the calendar.
4. Don’t try to organize clutter! Clutter cannot be organized! Donate, throw away or give away anything you no longer use or love. Don’t just keep moving it to different areas of the house.
5. Do start with a plan. Make sure you have the necessary supplies before you start. Several boxes or black garbage bags (for give-away, throw a-way and put-away) markers, Ziploc bags, and a timer will be enough to get you started.
6. Don’t try to do this alone. Enlist family members to help. Assign each person a different task so things will go quicker. If you still have children living at home (yes, even adult children) have them choose things to donate in order to make room for new gifts headed their way.
7. Don’t go from room to room. Start in one corner and work your way around the room. Don’t jump from one room to another; really concentrate on completing one section before moving forward. It is better to enter the New Year with one room completely finished rather than several rooms almost finished.
8. Do organize in a style that fits your unique personality. Remember there is no right or wrong way to get or stay organized. Start by asking questions like: “Do I like things visible or hidden? “What size space do I have available for storage?” “How often will I have to access this once I put it away?”
9. Do live your life by this new rule: One Item In-One Item Out! If applied, this one tip will drastically reduce clutter in your future…guaranteed!
10. Don’t become discouraged. Remember, it gets worse before it gets better. Just stay focused! Remember the old saying, “How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.” This is a journey, not a sprint!

Each November, I seem to come back to the same topic. I really don’t mean to be redundant, but the fall season truly fascinates me and definitely is one of my favorites. I think that it all stems from watching the transformation from green to brilliant hues. One has to contemplate - how does autumn color happen? For years, scientists have worked to understand the changes that happen to trees and shrubs in the autumn. Every detail may not yet be revealed, but it is known that three factors influence autumn leaf color; leaf pigments, length of night, and weather. The timing of the color change and leaf fall is primarily regulated by the calendar, that is, the increasing length of night. As days grow shorter, and nights grow longer and cooler, biochemical processes in the leaf begin to paint the landscape with nature’s autumn palette. A color palette needs pigments, and there are three types that are involved in autumn color. • Chlorophyll, gives leaves their basic green color. It is necessary for photosynthesis, the chemical reaction that enables plants to use sunlight to manufacture sugars for their food. Trees in the temperate zones store these sugars for their winter dormant period. • Carotenoids, produce yellow, orange, and brown colors in such things as corn, carrots, and daffodils, as well as rutabagas, and buttercups. • Anthocyanins, give color to such familiar things as cranberries, red apples, concord grapes, blueberries, cherries, strawberries, and plums. They are water soluble and appear in the watery liquid of leaf cells. Both chlorophyll and carotenoids are present in the chloroplasts of leaf cells throughout the growing season. Most anthocyanins are produced in the autumn, in response to bright light and excess plant sugars within leaf cells. During the growing season, chlorophyll is continually being produced and broken down and leaves appear green. As night length increases in the autumn, chlorophyll production slows down and then stops and eventually all the chlorophyll is destroyed. The carotenoids that are present in the leaf are then unmasked and show their colors. As leaves begin the process leading up to their fall, the veins that carry fluids into and out of the leaf gradually close off as a layer of cells forms at the base of each leaf. These clogged veins trap sugars in the leaf and promote the production of anthocyanins. Certain colors are characteristic of particular species. Oaks turn red, brown, or russet; hickories, golden bronze; aspen and yellow-poplar, golden yellow; dogwood, purplish red; beech, light tan; and sourwood and black tupelo, crimson. Maples differ species by species-red maple turns brilliant scarlet; sugar maple, orange-red; and black maple, glowing yellow. Leaves of some species such as the elms simply shrivel up and fall, exhibiting little color other than drab brown. The timing of the color change also varies by species. These differences in timing among species seem to be genetically inherited. The amount and brilliance of the colors that develop in any particular autumn season are related to weather conditions that occur before and during the time the chlorophyll in the leaves is dwindling. Temperature and moisture are the main influences.

The Family Connection Thankful for Our Children By Kerry Patuka, a degreed and certified educator, licensed minister and founder of Drive 5 Ministries.kerrydrive5@yahoo.com
Do you ever have one of those weeks where a particular topic just keeps popping up in various places? In the last few days, this concept of being thankful for our children has been brought to the forefront of my mind multiple times. Since we are entering the season of thankfulness, I think God has a message for me.
Last weekend my 14-year-old son and I were doing some volunteer work. Since he’s allergic to bees and the main work site was located near several hives, we found ourselves working away from the group. This allowed us time to chat about important topics, such as the upcoming clan war on Clash of Clans, Star Wars Rebels, scouts, lunch and our upcoming week. About an hour into our work, we couldn’t help but hear a mom of a boy about my son’s age, yelling at him about the way he was doing his task. Throughout the next few hours, she nagged him and spoke harshly to him. At one point she passed me and said “this sure isn’t what I signed up for!” I wasn’t sure if she meant for that day or motherhood in general. I wish I had been prepared to give a better response, but I simply said, “But it’s a beautiful day to be out here serving.” I don’t think she agreed. Later that afternoon, we stopped by a store. We were both pretty smelly, dirty and tried from our hours of labor, but my son and I were having a pretty good time. We each found a cool Star Wars retro t-shirt, picked up a few gifts for family and friends and bought some necessities. While we were hanging out in the Lego aisle, we heard someone snapping about hurrying up and picking something or else. We turned to see a mom and a boy, maybe about 9-years-old. The picking of a Lego set is pretty serious business and this mom was not too pleased. She made a sarcastic comment about the scout shirt I was wearing. I replied, looking at her son, “Scouting is awesome, isn’t it?” It seems she didn’t agree due to the amount of work it required on her part. I was afraid of saying too much at that point, so I didn’t really say anything. I was sharing my weekend experiences with a friend and he mentioned a parent he knew that was really struggling and stressed with her son’s ADHD. We discussed the danger of this impacting the kid and the importance of parents acknowledging that their kids have issues and needs, but to recognize the good and to appreciate there are those who face steeper challenges. Yesterday, I came across Susan B. Lewis’ recent blog entitled “Dear Stayat-Home-Moms, Please Shut Up: Just be Content or Quit Your Whining”. The well-made point of being grateful applies to all of us. We all have daily junk, stress and the stuff of life, but our children should always be seen as blessings. I’m writing this article on Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day, October 15 and I don’t know about you, but I’m grateful that I can hug my son today and tell him how much I love him.

medical directory & guide Go For 0 - Quit Smoking
Quitting any habit is hard, but because nicotine is one of the most addictive substances there is — considered equally or more addictive than heroin — tobacco is one of the hardest habits to break. “Tobacco use also creates powerful habits — when you talk to a friend on the phone, you pick up a cigarette,” said Phyllis Head, a wellness coordinator with Get Healthy, Live Well and herself a former smoker. “First cup of coffee in the morning? You light up. It’s an oral fixation that’s hard to break once you start it.” Head said people often get hooked when they’re young. “The children who are raised by parents who use tobacco are far more likely to begin using it themselves. So parents who use aren’t only putting their own health at risk, they’re also putting their children in danger.” Tobacco doesn’t just affect a user’s health. The cost of tobacco has increased dramatically in the past 20 years. “People are shocked when they find out the actual cost of tobacco use,” said Head. “If someone smokes a pack a day, that costs them about $1,200 a year. In a couple of years, that would pay for a car. Over 20 years, it would be enough to pay off a house. On www.dontbeabonehead.org, we have a calculator that lets you put in your usage and figure out how much money you’re spending a year on the habit. It’s pretty surprising.” Even when people understand the financial and health costs of tobacco use, it’s still hard to quit. Tanner Health System has sought to help residents kick tobacco with free Fresh Start tobacco cessation classes. The classes, developed by the American Cancer Society, offer support and instruction to help people cope with cravings. Here, people can share when and why they started using tobacco, understand why they’re addicted and get concrete plans to put into play when cravings become overwhelming.
“The worst thing you can do when you’re trying to quit is to be around other people who smoke or go to places where you traditionally light up,” said Head. “You might need to avoid those people and situations for a while until you get your habit changed. The best time to quit is when you go on a vacation or are removed from your usual routine. Have a plan for what you’re going to do differently when you become a non-smoker. Intentionally plan activities where you can’t smoke, like movies, bike riding and parties where smoking isn’t happening. Before you quit, you sought out places where you were allowed to use tobacco. Now, you need to intentionally put yourself into places where you can’t use it — even if you want to.” Head advised family members who want to help their loved ones quit tobacco. “Try not to nag them. People who use tobacco know that they need to quit. Constant pressure from you can become an added stress. Make your loved ones aware that Tanner has Fresh Start smoking cessation classes — a motivating and encouraging way to stop tobacco use that gives users a plan of attack on how to quit.” So, why should you fight the battle to quit? “Tobacco robs you,” said Head. “It takes your money, it takes your health and it ultimately can take your life. If you’re ready to quit, we’re here for you. Go online at www.gethealthylivewell.org and register for any of our classes in Carrollton, Villa Rica and Bremen. Quitting is one of the hardest things you’ll ever do, but it can be done. Tanner wants to help you do it.” If you are a former tobacco user and you want to get involved in helping other people quit, you can become a Fresh Start class facilitator. Training is easy — you can do it online in about an hour. Classes are just once a week for 30 minutes and run for three weeks. If you’d like to start a Fresh Start program in your business, church or organization, contact Head at 770.812.6295 or e-mail phead@tanner.org and she’ll work with you to train your facilitators and start a program of your own.

business & technology Carroll Chamber names April Harris as Small Business Person of the Year Small Business Person of the Year was awarded to April Harris, owner of the Squire Shop in Carrollton, during the annual Carroll County Chamber of Commerce Membership BBQ. “I’ve always believed that a community you support will support you,” Harris said. “And this award proves that to be true.” Harris became owner of the men’s clothing retail store in 2005 and has also successfully launched her own clothing line company known as Brewer’s Lantern, now offered online and in more than 200 stores. Amy Brown, Chair of the Chamber’s Business Development Committee, noted that Harris took over the Squire Shop at the beginning of the economic downturn. “As a female in business, I know it can be difficult to be successful even when the economy is going well,” Brown said. “But April not only succeeded with her retail store but she took her business to the next level.” Harris was educated in the Carroll County and Carrollton City School Systems. She worked in retail while attending high school and was a co-op
student while attending the University of West Georgia as a business major. Always a high achiever, Harris represented Carrollton and Atlanta as a fencer in junior high school, winning numerous awards and competing in the Junior Olympics held in Louisville, Kentucky. Harris is active in civic service as a member of the Dawn Breakers Rotary Club where she has served in various leadership positions including president. She has served multiple times as president of Downtown Mainstreet, has served on the Carroll County Chamber Board of Directors, is currently alumni treasurer of her college sorority (Alpha Gamma Delta) and is also co-chair of the A-Day fundraising event for the University of West Georgia. Other activities include a run for public office, lecturer on entrepreneurship at UWG, and advocate for business inclusion and coordination with the local community. A recent article in the Wall Street Journal investigated the financial plight of small businesses today and included an interview with Harris. Harris is married to Rick Harris and they reside in Carrollton.
Chamber presents Beautification awards The Carroll County Chamber’s Environmental Projects Committee presented three Silver Beautification Awards during the recent Membership BBQ. Local Funeral Director’s Legacy still impacting future Even after 13 years, a local funeral director’s legacy is still impacting the future of funeral service in a positive way. Hannah Zepplin, a Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service student, was awarded as the 2014 recipient of the Annual Charles W. Wynn Memorial Scholarship in recognition of her dedication to excellence in funeral service. This year’s Scholarship was presented by Cincinnati Equitable Life Insurance Company and by Jones-Wynn Funeral Homes & Crematory. The Charles W. Wynn Memorial Scholarship has been awarded to a funeral service student each year in memory of Charles Wynn, who passed away in 2001. Mr. Wynn of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home was a well-respected funeral director in the West Georgia area and throughout the State of Georgia.
