Pet Emergency Plans & Preparedness Kits By Nancy Moser, DVM

Emergencies and Natural disasters, like hurricanes, tornadoes and floods, can have varying severities and effects on our communities. That’s why it’s so important for families to make an emergency plan, including a plan for their pets. If an evacuation is ever needed, having your pet’s emergency plan and an emergency preparedness kit, or “Go Bag”, ready will give you one less variable to worry about! Your pet’s “Go Bag” can be a simple small backpack or a larger plastic storage bin, depending on how many pets you have and your needs. Below you will find a list of recommendations and common items to include in your pet’s emergency plan and preparedness kit: • Keeping vaccines up to date and having hard copies of current vaccine records • Getting your pet microchipped and ensuring it is registered with your information • A list of animal-friendly evacuation shelters and emergency animal hospitals in your area • A leash and collar with an ID tag • A pet carrier • A week supply of food, water and any medications your pets may need • A pet first aid kit - ask your veterinarian what you should include for your pet • A pet carrier • Potty pads for your dogs • Litter and litter box for your feline friends • Waste disposal bags and cleaning supplies • A picture of you and your pet together, in case you get separated and need to prove your ownership • Their favorite blanket or toy

Boyette Animal Hospital is proud to provide your pets with the highest quality of treatment and care from twelve veterinarians and a devoted staff. To make an appointment, please call (813) 671-3400.
