Sensory Garden Open at Agricultural Museum Information from Manatee County Agricultural Museum

PMC 1823

The Manatee County Agricultural Museum invites you to explore their new Sensory Garden, located in Palmetto Historical Park at 515 10th Avenue West in Palmetto, Florida. The Garden’s purpose is to create a haven from the everyday craziness, while also educating hands-on visitors about various species of plants. Walk along the boardwalk and engage with herbs, vegetables and more. Although it was built with kids in mind, there is no age limit on those who wish to learn. The garden is wheelchair accessible and visitors of all abilities are welcome! The plants are identified with signage as to whether they are a “see, touch, taste, listen, or smell” opportunity. A bench/table is available for picnicking and quiet visitors may see butterflies or birds visiting the garden as well. Funds for the garden were provided by the Manatee River Garden Club (Elizabeth M. Eaton Fund), the Serenoa Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society, and the Agricultural Museum’s Board of Directors. While in the garden, use materials in the art box to record your visit in your own creative way. And make sure to visit the Little Free Library in front of the Ag Museum’s barn doors, where books for all ages can be found.
