I know that the families that across Lucan, Palmerstown and Clondalkin and the villages of Brittas, Newcastle and Rathcoole are already facing a cost-of-living crisis, and I believe increasing the rate of inheritance tax would unfairly place an added financial burden on people inheriting money or property from their loved ones. “People who work all their lives to put a home over their heads and provide for their family should not be punished for their hard work when they then provide their children with something to help secure their future,” Deputy Higgins said. “If anything, those who have paid so much in taxes and

On Thursday 8th September Cllr Carey raised the matter at the South Dublin County Council housing SPC. The meeting was informed by Director of Housing Colm Ward that SDCC were awaiting a response from the department of housing before they could process the necessary paperwork for the banks to approve the necessary home loans.

Meanwhile other local authorities are rolling out programmes for the scheme and the banks are still not on board. Cllr Carey concluded by saying, because of this minister’s ineptitude these families are in danger of having their dreams dashed.

The minister must prioritise this matter and resolve any issues with the banks immediately as time is a major factor for many of these families.

etc, in order for them to qualify for the scheme. However, it seems that nobody in the Dept. of Housing from the Minister to his officials had agreed terms with the banks who are supposed to provide the mortgages. As a result these sales cannot be completed and almost half of the families chosen for the scheme find themselves running out of time as their mortgage approval period runs out and are unable to complete their purchase.

Deputy Emer Higgins, TD for Dublin Mid West has expressed her frustrations on behalf of the local community at the continued delay in delivering a full bus service for the much needed W6 route. Deputy Higgins said: “I am extremely disappointed to learn that the planned and much anticipated W6 route has been further delayed and will now be split into two separate bus routes, the W61 and the W62, before the two routes are eventually linked. “This means that the route will initially not directly link Newcastle with Hazelhatch and thus not provide a direct route from Tallaght to Maynooth which is really disappointing,” added Deputy

“I can reassure the community that I am keeping the pressure on the NTA and South Dublin County Council to get this route delivered in full as soon as possible,” concluded Deputy Higgins.

According to Cllr Carey the Minister has been more interested in playing to the media instead of ensuring that any scheme being announced can be properly funded and properly

“It’s anticipated that once operational, the temporary services will need to be in place for 12-18 months and there is still no concrete timeline for when the full route will be delivered which I know is causing a massive headache for locals and especially students needing to travel to Maynooth from Rathcoole.

“The NTA have informed me that they will work with South Dublin County Council to carry out the appropriate road widening works to facilitate a safe two-way operation, but it will take a significant time to plan and deliver those works so in the meantime, they want to deliver some of the benefits quicker than would be the case if they were to wait for the full through services to begin operation,” continued Deputy Higgins.

This category is for a new team that demonstrates excellence in teamwork. Speaking about this year’s Team of the Year winner one colleague remarked: “The Catering Team have gone over and beyond in caring for our patients and staff since we moved from the base hospitals to TUH. During COVID the catering Patient Food Services Teams strived to ensure that a professional and homely service was received by our patients, especially because they were unable to have visitors. They produced homemade treats as a delight for patients in the afternoon during Covid. All members of the team are always on hand to help with awareness drives such as hand hygiene and healthy lunch bags for health and well-being days. As a team, they always have a smile on their face and a hello which makes patients and their families feel valued and at Therehome.”

MOTORING LIFE WITH

The all-new MercedesBenz EQB is a seven-seat fully-electric family SUV which is based on the petrol and diesel-powered GLB, and it is packed with lots of premium appeal too. Like the GLB, the EQB comes with a high roofline and rugged offroad appearance, but under the metal and behind the blanked-off front grille, the EQB has an identity all of its own. The new EQB is fitted with a 66.5kWh battery and a pair of electric motors providing 4MATIC all-wheel drive capability. MercedesBenz claim that the EQB will return a range of 419kms from a fully charged battery and, from my own personal experience, this certainly does appear to reflect realworld Impressivedriving.Cabin & Boot

The only options fitted to my test car were metallic paint (€1,068) and a Night Package (€764) consisting of black roofbars, and heatinsulating dark tinted glass, along with 18” 5-spoke alloy wheels with black accents for an extra dash of style and panache. Producing 228bhp and 390Nm of torque, the EQB 300 can sprint from 0-100km/h in 8.0-seconds on its way to a top speed of 160km/h (where permitted). Due to instant, and well controlled power delivery, overtaking slower moving traffic can be executed with ease, with instant acceleration right up to motorway speeds. The EQB handles in a safe and secure manner at all times, with well-judged steering, strong brake pedal feel, and

The new Mercedes-Benz EQB brings with it a new era in fully-electric driving, and it is a well-rounded and suitably impressive midsize family SUV that has the distinct advantage of being able to carry up to seven people in comfort and style. A muscular shoulder dominates the side view of the EQB, which is further enhanced by the rise of the beltline, while outwardly positioned wheels give the EQB a powerful character and confident stance on the road. The upmarket cabin of the EQB features an ultramodern widescreen digital display which is MBUX controlled, and it can be individually configured with the help of various options. Overall cabin space is impressive, with lots of headroom on offer throughout, while a relatively large glass area ensures great visibility for all occupants. Space in the middle row is more than adequate – even for taller adults – with all seven occupants benefitting from comfortable and supportive seats. Even the rearmost seats get ISOFIX anchorage points, and this may be an important requirement for families who need to place small children in the 3rd row of seats on a regular basis.

Steering wheel-mounted shift paddles enable the driver to select the right amount of brake regeneration to suit their driving style. In their strongest setting, you can bring the car to a complete stop by just lifting off the accelerator, while a coasting mode makes for simple, efficient motorway driving. The EQB is smooth and relaxing to drive, while the amount of grip the dual-motor and 4MOTION drivetrain provide is reassuring on all road conditions, and in all weather conditions too.

Jack Crane is part of the new team in Baldonnell and was the first person to pick and pack a customer order from the site. The first order, a laptop stand and a connector for a computer monitor, was picked and packed at the fulfilment centre before making its way to the Amazon delivery station in Rathcoole.

The parcel was then sorted at the delivery station and loaded onto a delivery van, which was driven by Hilary Redmond, an independent contractor engaged by Jetline Logistics Ltd to deliver Amazon parcels, to the home of Alex Dobinson in South Dublin.

NOVENAS FOR LAURA LYNN

A Dublin woman whose first coffee morning for Hospice services netted €100 has transformed the fundraiser into a huge community gathering which now brings in thousands. Shirley Lawlor has run the event for 15 years – and has been inspired to keep going after losing two friends to cancer who were given “dignity and independence” by Hospice staff in their final days. A decision to stage one of her fundraisers outdoors during Covid restrictions saw her raise over €7,000 - her most successful yet - for Our Lady’s Hospice and Care Services in Harold’s Cross.

Most Merciful Jesus, Goodness Itself. You do not refuse light to those who seek it of You. Receive into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart the Souls of those who have separated themselves from Your Church. Draw them by Your light into the unity of the Church, and do not let them escape from the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart, but bring it about that they too, come to glorify the generosity of Your mercy. Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the souls of those who have separated themselves from Your Son’s Church, who have squandered Your blessings and misuse Your graces by obstinately persisting in their errors. Do not look upon His bitter errors, but upon the love of Your Son and upon His bitter Passion, which He underwent for their sake, since they too, are enclosed in His Most Compassionate Heart. Bring it about that they also may glorify Your great mercy for endless ages. Amen
