CRISIS IN ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR AND PUBLIC SAFETY Scrambler & Quad Bike task force must prioritise New Legislation. Local T.D. John Curran has called on the crossagency group, set up to tackle the illegal use of scrambler and quad bikes, to prioritise new legislation that will provide Gardaí with the necessary powers to seize Quads and/ or Scramblers, based on intelligence led investigations carried out by An Garda Síochána. Deputy Curran was speaking after receiving

new information in recent weeks from Justice Minister, Charlie Flanagan on the matter, he said, “Communities plagued by antisocial Scrambler and Quad Bikes have been abandoned by Fine Gael. In the Minister’s reply to me he still thinks that current laws are sufficient to deal with the scourge and illegal use of scrambler and quad bikes. “However; as it stands, local Gardaí policing our area are unable to engage in high speed chases in the housing

estates or large green spaces where these bikes are being used, due to the greater concerns for public safety. “Gardaí are therefore not in the position to seize a vehicle from a person who is blatantly and illegally misusing it.

“It needs to be made an absolute priority that these changes to legislation are introduced so that we can support our Gardaí to seize a Quad or Scrambler from an individual’s home. The cross-agency

taskforce is currently considering the formal views from the Garda Commissioner on this matter and I am urging them to urgently prioritise legislative change so as to combat this issue. FG recently refused to support a Fianna Fáil bill aimed at addressing significant gaps in legislation regarding quad and scrambler bikes. However, the bill was passed through the Oireachtas at Second Stage despite the Government’s failure to support it. The Road Traffic (AllTerrain Vehicle and Scramble Motor-cycle) Amendment Bill 2019 will now progress to pre-legislative scrutiny at Committee Stage. “There is no room for ambiguity – this

is a crisis in anti-social behaviour and public safety. Fine Gael clearly have no concept of the problem. “People in my own area of Dublin Mid-West are exhausted from the trouble caused by scramblers and quads. They are frightened to step foot on their own doorstep.

Some families have no choice but to keep their children in doors to keep them away from the potential harm or injury. “It’s about time that Fine Gael realised their responsibility to stand up for decent communities and regulate the use of these vehicles for once and for all,” he concluded. The question was as follows; To

ask the Minister for Justice and Equality the progress made to date to tackle the illegal use of scrambler and quad bikes; and if he will make a statement on the matter. And the reply contained the below information which is the current situation; “In responding to parliamentary question 203 of 14 May 2019, I noted that legal advice received from the Office of the Attorney General indicated that, in the main, current road traffic and public order legislation appear to provide sufficient means to police this issue. This view was shared by representatives from Department of Transport,

Tourism and Sport and An Garda Síochána who attended the last sitting of the cross-agency group on 15 March. While it was agreed by that, in the main, road current legislative provisions appear to be sufficient, it was also agreed that the group would remain open to considering workable legislative solutions in the event that specific legislative gaps are identified by An Garda Síochána. Separately, on 5 February, my officials wrote to the Garda Commissioner to seek his formal views on the legal advice, in the hope of addressing the legislative matter in as much detail as possible. A response to the aforementioned request to the Garda Commissioner was subsequently received on 28 June. This response is now being considered by my officials, and will be discussed in detail with the relevant stakeholders within the cross-agency group.”

HERITAGE TRAIL MOBILE APP FOR CLONDALKIN 4,500 NEW HOMES COULD South Dublin County Council has signed a contract to develop a heritage trail mobile App for Clondalkin Village. The Self-Guided Walk Historical Trail of Clondalkin App is an amalgamation of five proposals, which included an app, information signage and audio tour of the Clondalkin Village Heritage Trail. Following a tender evaluation process,

and the

Council chose Mobanode Ltd to deliver the mobile heritage trail app for Clondalkin Village. Mobanode will deliver a fully interactive, userfriendly and user immersive heritage trail app available in multiple languages to highlight the wonderful history and heritage of Clondalkin Village whilst increasing the footfall in the area from both national and international tourists. The app will have a map of

Clondalkin, and the heritage locations integrated within the app so no data will be used by any user which is essential for international visitors. It will also draw more attention to The Round Tower Visitor Centre as it will be a focal point of the trail. It is anticipated that the heritage trail app for Clondalkin Village will be available for download to mobile devices within the

coming months. The idea for the App came from the €300K – Have Your Say participatory budgeting initiative run in Clondakin, Rathcoole and Newcastle last year where members of the public were asked to suggest funding ideas and then vote on a short list of agreed projects. Frank Nevin, Director of Economic, Enterprise and Tourism Development said, “The most efficient and beneficial way of delivering the suggestions for Clondalkin was to introduce a downloadable app which will be compatible with all mobile devices and tablets”. He added, “As apps are a major part of most people’s lives, the objective is to create a fun, exciting and engaging app to not only showcase Clondalkin’s wonderful heritage but to also make it an engaging experience for users of all ages. The app will also integrate with Dublin’s Outdoors to highlight weekly events, tours and businesses in the area.”

BE DELIVERED

South Dublin County Council recently considered proposals that could deliver up to 4,500 new homes to the area. The total investment envisaged under the ambitious housing plan is in excess of €1 billion. The lands discussed at a recent Council meeting included: 2,600 new homes at the recently approved Clonburris SDZ scheme, 1,000 new homes at Kilcarbery in Clondalkin, 500 new homes in Killinarden, Tallaght, 250 new homes in Rathcoole, and a further 150 new homes at Belgard Road, Tallaght. The schemes will be delivered in the coming years through a combination of traditional

design and build and joint venture solutions. It is expected that over 70% of the 4,500 homes will be delivered as either social or affordable housing. The final breakdown of the five mixed tenure developments will be decided based on the final master plans approved for each site and on the government’s affordable housing scheme. The €1 billion investment is part of the Council’s plans for building new homes in South Dublin over the coming years as part of its commitment to the government’s overall Rebuilding Ireland programme.

NORTH CLONDALKIN COMMUNITY ANGRY AT JIGSAW CLOSURE

North Clondalkin Cllr Mark Ward has expressed his anger that JIGSAW’s current service in North Clondalkin will not be retained. A Community Walk was organised recently so local people can express their concerns and put pressure on JIGSAW to reverse their decision to amalgamate their service in North Clondalkin with Tallaght.

Cllr Mark Ward said “I am angered beyond words that a bureaucratic decision could have a devastating effect on our area. This is a direct attack on our young people, and it must not happen,” “Jigsaw management and the HSE are playing with our children’s lives, this must not be allowed happen. JIGSAW will come out with their usual spin bur the reality is that the service as it stands will no longer be available to the young people of North Clondalkin” “JIGSAW North Clondalkin was born out of a need. A

need to tackle the amount of young people dying by suicide. North Clondalkin has had numerous suicides over the years and the affects can be felt daily” “I have had direct contact from parents, staff and community groups recently all expressing the same concerns. There is a lack of mental health services in Clondalkin and to reduce or remove this vital service is cruel to say the least. Young people from Clondalkin won’t travel to Tallaght to use Jigsaw’s services.” “JIGSAW have accused people like me that openly critics’ their decision as scaremongering. This is totally outrageous. The consultation process hosted by JIGSAW happened after they made their decision. The Community was ignored. A service like JIGSAW is vital to our community and if its gone the affects could be fatal to some of our young people”

At a recent meeting of South Dublin County Council, Mayor Vicki Casserly randomly selected the Firhouse Bohernabreena local electoral area to be the next setting for the Council’s landmark participatory budgeting initiative, €300k Have Your Say. €300K Have Your Say is a local democratic process, which facilitates citizens in a local community to directly decide how to spend a portion of the public budget in their area. It gives people the direct power to

determine how to spend up to €300,000 to improve their community by asking them to suggest projects and then vote on which ones they would like to see funded through a public ballot. In 2017, South Dublin County Council became the first local authority in the state to adopt participatory budgeting through its pilot programme in the Lucan Electoral Area. This was followed up with the 2018 version in the Clondalkin Electoral Area. €300k Have Your Say was also shortlisted at the Europe

wide ‘Innovation in Politics’ award ceremony in Vienna, Austria in 2018. To date, 390 project submissions have been entered through the process with 23 winning through public ballot to be funded through €300k Have You Say. These include a wide range of ideas, from the planting of native apple trees to a WiFi activated heritage trail in Clondalkin village, the restoration of the historic King John’s Bridge in Lucan and a safety and inclusivity study of public spaces.

TWO IRISHMEN TO CYCLE ACROSS 28 COUNTRIES FOR SICK CHILDREN

Two Irishmen are to cycle across 28 countries and 3 continents to raise vital funds for two charities – CMRF Crumlin and the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation. Paddy Flynn from Waterford and Daithí Harrison from Tipperary will cycle from Sydney to Dublin in twelve months, starting on the 4thAugust. As well as the cycle, both men will run an ultra-marathon in each of the 28 countries along the way. “One of the reasons we decided to take on the challenge was to raise vital money for two amazing charities – CMRF Crumlin and the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation.” Daithí said. “We are really looking forward to learning about the cultures and histories of all the countries we’re visiting. It’ll be an exploration of the mind and a journey

of the soul. We both believe that it’s our duty to be of service to the generation that follow us, especially to those who need it most.” Daithí and Paddy are raising vital funds for CMRF Crumlin, the charity for Crumlin hospital and the NCRC (National Children’s Research Centre). 150,000 children walk through the doors of Crumlin hospital every year. 1 in 100 children in Ireland are born with a structural heart defect. 211 children are diagnosed with cancer every year in Ireland. All of them are treated at Crumlin Hospital. The NCRC is funding 43 research grants into paediatric conditions and illnesses including cardiology, immunology, infection, cancer and neonatology.

SPEECH AND LANGUAGE WAITING LISTS REMAIN HIGH 2 year waiting time for young children to access Speech and Language Therapy in Dublin Mid-West. John Curran T.D. has said that figures released to him show additional therapy staff are urgently required to meet demands for Speech and Language Therapy services in Dublin Mid-West. after receiving a direct reply from the HSE on the matter; “In Dublin MidWest there are 700 children already in the service.

Deputy Ó Broin said: “We are constantly reminded by the government that the country is booming again and that the economy is growing. “However, is remains to be an uneven and unfair economic recovery. “The figures my colleague received from the Department of the Taoiseach based on recent CSO data shows how Rowlagh and Cappaghmore in Clondalkin are areas still struggling with high unemployment. “More must be done to create genuine

ADVENTUROUS VW AMAROK By Breda Corrigan ‘AVENTURA’ Built for maximum driving pleasure, the handsome, versatile, and durable VW Amarok double-cab pick-up has been revised in order to firmly secure its position in a crowded market segment. Benefitting from a mild facelift, and a brand new diesel engine, the big VW pick-up is one of the best vehicles in its class. Current rivals to the VW Amarok include the Nissan Navara, Ford Ranger, Mitsubishi L200, Toyota Hilux, Fiat Fullback and Mercedes-Benz X-Class. New Diesel Engine; The new VW Amarok looks pretty much the same as the original in many respects, with its underpinnings remaining unaltered. Exterior changes have been limited to a redesigned front bumper, front grille and alloy wheels, while inside there is a new dashboard and an improved infotainment system. The highlight, however, is the new 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine, which makes light work of any job that the Amarok is faced with. This wonderful engine is standard across the entire Amarok range, with all models attracting annual road tax of just €333 (standard commercial vehicle tax rate). Specification & Transmission Options; Three specification levels are available in the new VW Amarok –Comfortline (204bhp), Highline (204bhp or 258bhp) and Aventura (258bhp). Transmission choices comprise of a 6-speed manual gearbox (204bhp engines only), or a silky smooth 8-speed automatic

(258bhp engines only)– representing a ‘first-in-class’ in the segment. Test Car; My test vehicle was a new VW Amarok 3.0-litre V6 ‘Aventura’ (flagship model) finished in Ravenna Blue Matte paintwork for maximum visual impact. A stop/start system is standard across the Amarok range, as is BlueMotion engine technology, and ‘4Motion’ all-wheel-drive. With a safe wading depth of 500mm, this is a seriously capable vehicle off-road, but offers a genuine car-like driving experience on-road. Driving the new Amarok is a pleasure – thanks in no small part to the 258bhp (and a whopping 580Nm of torque) under the bonnet of my test vehicle, and the reassurance of VW’s outstanding 4Motion system. I found the 3.0-litre V6 engine to be muscular, yet quiet, making it an excellent proposition. Fuel consumption is another area worthy of praise, as this new engine is capable of fuel consumption as low as 7.7l/100km on a combined driving cycle. The 0-100km/h sprint can be completed in just 7.4-seconds, on the way to a top speed of 203km/h – where permitted. Impressive Specification; Standard specification across the entire Amarok range is impressive, while the Aventura model includes such standard features as 20” ‘Talca’ alloy wheels, sports bar in body colour, chrome side bars with steps (illuminated), ‘Discover Media’ satellite navigation with DAB radio,

voice control and Car Net – App Connect, leather multi-function steering wheel with shifting paddles, Bi-xenon headlamps, heated seats & washer nozzles, special design leather seat trim covers, ‘Ergo-Comfort’ seats with 14-way adjustment, load compartment coating (which is resistant to abrasion and stone impact) and numerous other safety, security and comfort features. Optional features fitted to my test car included a full body cover with additional transport protection measures, roof-mounted LED auxiliary lights, black ‘Talca’ alloy wheels, black door handles, black & chrome exterior door mirrors, and poweradjustable, heated & folding door mirrors. Impressive Space; The VW Amarok has very generous dimensions, with a length of 5.32m, width of 2.2m (including door mirrors) and a height of 1.834m. A payload of 672kg, and a towing capacity of 3,500kg are more than acceptable in this class too. Add a locking tonneau cover to the load bed, and it turns the Amarok into a large and practical family car. No other pick-up provides so much space between the wheel housings. The loading width of 1.222m even enables Euro pallets to be loaded crosswise. The spacious, 2.52m² cargo box features some impressive dimensions – such as the 508 mm high side panels and the low loading sill height of 780 mm. Once inside the

cabin of the Amarok, it will become apparent just how much space there is on offer, while driver and passenger comfort is top class. The rear seats provide plenty of leg and headroom for passengers, with seat bases that are higher off the floor than in rival pick-ups. Award-Winning Pick-Up; The Volkswagen Amarok has won the ‘International Pick-up Award 2018’ (IPUA 2018). Like its predecessor in 2010, the new Amarok, now with hightorque V6 engines, has also succeeded in winning over the jury of transport journalists. The International Pick-up Award (IPUA) is awarded only every two or three years by a selection of the IVOTY (International Van of the Year) jury members, a group of renowned trade journalists from 25 countries. Sixteen of them evaluate the nominated vehicles independently of each other according to previously defined criteria. The Volkswagen Amarok won the IPUA in 2010 and so becomes the only pick-up to win this accolade for a second time. Pricing; The wonderful new VW Amarok range is currently priced from €46,885 (including VAT). For buyers in the market for a worthy, stylish, capable and reliable 5-seat pick-up, the ‘100% Pick-Up, 100% Premium’ VW Amarok should not be overlooked.

N.N Prayer for healing Heavenly Father, I call on you right now in a very special way. It is through your power that I was created. Every breath I take, every morning that I wake, and every moment of every hour, I live under your power. Father, I ask you now to touch

me with that same power. For if you created me from nothing you can certainly recreate me. Fill me with the healing power of your spirit. Cast out anything that should not be in me. Mend what is broken. Root out any damaged cells. Open any blocked arteries or veins and rebuild any damaged areas. Remove all inflammation and cleanse any infection. Let the warmth of your healing pass through my body to make new any unhealthy areas so that my body will function the way you created it to function. And Father, restore me to full health in mind and body so that I may serve you the rest of my life. I ask this through Christ Our Lord Amen. I.B
