Palm Lake Performances By Ann SCULLY
WHEN it comes to entertainment, Allan Wilson and Karren Nash scooped the pool last Friday evening when they presented two hilarious plays to a keen audience who gathered in the theatre at Palm Lake Resort. First up was “The Wedding Shower”, an adaptation by Karren Nash where the bride to be, relatives and friends were seated around a table that offered typical fare and refreshments for the celebration. The plot was instigated by the bride to be’s best friend who thought she would spice up proceedings by purchasing a personal gift for the bride from the local adult shop
but to her shock became extremely embarrassed when she realized that the bride to be’s grandmother had been invited to the party. During the course of the wedding shower party, the bride’s best friend managed to swap her somewhat naughty present with that of the grandmother so when the grandmother’s present was being given to the bride to be, there were all sorts of double sided comments made in relation to what was contained in the present box. When News of the Area asked Karren what she enjoyed most about being in the play, she said, “It gives me great pleasure to bring laughter from the audience.” Not to be outdone, Allan

Kathie Rimmer, Lesley Kibble, Allan Wilson, Nil Kibble and Graham O’Harae.
said Council's Acting Director of Water Services, Rob Scott, “We're considering options for best management
in the worst case scenario - in case we fail to receive further rainfall in our catchment areas over the coming
months." Mr Scott said he was confident MidCoast Council is managing water resources in the best way possible during the current drought conditions. "The light rainfall and snowfall in the catchment over the last fortnight have CONTINUED Page 2

The storyline in this play was that two husbands had passed and were in heaven reminiscing about their life on earth and at the same time questioning how their wives would be living their lives, without them, at Date Palm Resort. At the same time, the spotlight was shone on the two wives who were enjoying happy hour at the resort also reflecting their lives and how they missed their husbands. replenished river flows for the time being, although river levels remain low and without further similar rainfall, we will reach the triggers for water restrictions before the end of winter. "Right now, our water storages are full, and we are able to keep them topped up from our rivers, so there is no benefit in introducing restrictions immediately." The MidCoast area has never had winter water restrictions before. The established water restrictions system is better suited for summer conditions. Typically, we would introduce 'moderate' and then 'very high' restrictions as the water
storage levels drop to each trigger point. There are set consumption levels - which we expect our community to achieve at each of these levels. "The problem is that in winter, we are already using less water than the target that is set for 'very high' restrictions," explained Mr Scott. "So there's no point introducing these lower level restrictions as we would do in summer, because they would not achieve any reduction in water use. "At some stage this winter, if we don’t receive substantial rainfall in the catchment area, we may need to stop all outdoor water use, which is extreme level restrictions. “We’ll be keeping everyone informed about the developing situation over the coming weeks, through local media, Council’s website and social media.”

One hundred photos tell the story
q Myall U3A Vice President John Williams, who opened the exhibition, with photography group member Joan Eastman. Joan, a virtual newcomer to photography, impressed with her portfolio of photos recently taken in New Zealand’s South Island.
JUST hours after closing up shop on their successful photo exhibition, held over the Queen’s Birthday weekend, members of the Myall U3A Photography Group were focusing on how they could improve for next time. They’ll have to go some, for their latest offering held at the Hawks Nest Community Hall pulled in more than 400 people keen to see what our local photographers could produce. And they weren’t disappointed. There were plaudits all round, from locals and visitors, regarding the high standard of the 100 plus photos on show. One couple, New Zealanders living in Sydney, said they were “amazed at the quality of the photographs” on display. “We’ve been coming to the area over 20 years, and we were also impressed by the variety of subject matter.”
So was Tea Gardens’ artist Dale Rosenthal, who also praised the show and picked a selection of landscapes and animal shots for special mention. Members were encouraged to enter two photos for the monthly Set Subjects section, which included, Flora and Fauna, People,
Man Made and My Passion. In addition, they could display two others in the Open section. Exhibition organiser Deb Philipson this week said, “Feedback has been fabulous and it certainly inspires us to mount something even better for our next exhibition.” Deb thanked group co-members Paul Mulvaney and Bob Bush for their work in staging the most challenging and successful event since the group was formed in 2016. Myall U3A Vice President John Williams officially opened the exhibition and congratulated members’ fine efforts at putting on a bigger show that last year displayed just 60 photos. Local Geoff Latona won the raffle prize for Deb Philipson’s framed photo ‘Sunset over the Myall’, and People’s Choice photograph ‘Are You Talking to Me’, a portrait of a pelican, was the work of group member Andrew Sillar. q More than 100 photos were on show at the Myall U3A Photography Group photo exhibition held at Hawks Nest Community Hall over the Queen’s Birthday weekend.

We recently reported on the case of Realm Resources Pty Ltd v Aurora Place Investments Pty Ltd [2019] which held that a sublessee was immediately bound after signing and returning the sublease to the sublessor, notwithstanding the sublease had not also been signed by the sublessor. This decision can be contrasted with another recent case of Darzi Group Pty ltd v Nolde Pty Ltd [2019] in which the lessee failed to establish that a binding lease had come into effect after signing and returning the lease to the lessor. In this case, the parties signed a Heads of Agreement and the lessee took possession and commenced a fitout of the premises. The parties then embarked upon two years of arduous negotiation through their legal representatives which resulted in a seemingly
settled lease being signed by the lessee and returned to the lessor. Despite a further two years elapsing, the lessor did not sign the lease and then attempted to renegotiate its terms. The lessee sought to enforce the lease which it had signed and returned to the lessor. The Court held that based on an objective review of the correspondence between the parties’ legal representatives and also the conduct of the parties, it was the intention of the parties not to be bound until the formal lease was signed by both parties and exchanged. This decision particularly when contrasted with the decision in Realm Resources Pty Ltd v Aurora Place Investments Pty Ltd [2019], illustrates that parties to a lease transaction need to be very clear as to when they will consider themselves bound.

Accessing local population statistics
IF YOU need accurate information about the MidCoast population or your local market, free community workshops are being held in Taree, Forster, Tea Gardens and Gloucester in July. MidCoast Council is bringing back the .id team to run workshops for anyone who’s keen to understand our local population and key demographic information. The company .id brings together teams of demographic and spatial analysts, urban economists, industry sector experts, IT and data management specialists, and is the largest population forecasting team in the country. "MidCoast Council provides demographic information, expertly presented by .id, free on our website for everyone to access, and once again, we're pleased to be able to provide workshops to guide people through the vast amounts of information that's there," says Council's Coordinator Community Strengthening, Lyndie Hepple. "In the past these workshops have been well attended, and if you came last year, we encourage you to come along again, there's new things to learn every year." The information that is freely available includes population statistics, including community and area
profiles, age break downs, socio-economic status, home ownership and much more. Population growth forecasts and economic profiles of the area are included, providing valuable information for strategic and future planning. If you're part of a community group, the statistics can help you demonstrate need for your funding applications - vital to helping you secure grants. The workshops will also benefit businesses, students, educational institutions and government agencies, allowing for better marketing, strategic planning and improving community outcomes across a range of social activities. The workshops will begin on Monday 8 July from 10am - 12.30pm in Tea Gardens at the Baptist Church and 3pm - 4.30pm or 5pm 6.30pm at Forster Council Chambers. On Tuesday 9 July, you can attend from 9am - 10.30am or 11am - 12.30pm at Taree's Council Chambers, and in Gloucester at Council’s offices from 2.30pm - 4pm. If you can’t wait for the workshop to access some community statistics, they're available at www.midcoast.nsw.gov.au/communitystatistics. There’s no need to book for your preferred workshop, just turn up!

By Neil REYNOLDS THE Tea Gardens Hawks have had a slow start to the season, with one win from eight rounds. The side has been competitive in the early part of each game but have capitulated under pressure. The loss of halves, Jade Duroux and James Bowden has forced a reshuffle. Featuring a young side, with a number of players 20 years of age or under, there is a build in place. Kye Cotterill has won a player of the round award, Jreay [kiwi] Davis has featured in defense and supporter’s awards, and Ethan Tito has accumulated plenty of points in the “player of the year” tally, along with Luke Perry, who will be the X factor in any Hawks success this season. Leading from the front, Nathan [Blood] Ruse has starred for the Hawks, playing five 80 minute games in the front row, and winning referees best and fairest points in all 8 games.
q
His front row partner, Nic Lagudi has pushed the boundaries to play this season. Lagudi will play this week to achieve his life membership for the Club. Ryan Saunders will also be awarded a life membership this week. Saunders commitment to the Club with the seniors and lady hawks 9’s, and the junior’s has been exceptional. Coach, Trent Murphy has recovered from a knee reconstruction, and has played plenty of minutes. The Hawks will play Karuah this weekend at Myall Park. The Tea Gardens Lady Hawks have made every post a winner this year. With only five players backing up from last season, the new players have excelled, to be leading the competition at the halfway mark. A committed team has lifted to a new level, with some innovative coaching, and ladies willing to improve.
