GIG Cool Summer 2020 preparation. Desley Voigt, Emilie Tseronis and Anne Stuart.
WHAT does the phrase ‘In The Wild’ conjure up in your mind? Certainly, it can bring forth all sorts of thoughts, memories, feelings, ideas and even concerns! It is also the evocative theme for the up-coming Cool Summer 2020 Exhibition by Galleries in the Gardens (GIG) artists, and there’s no doubt the array of artworks produced to this topic will be widely varied and fascinating. “You’re all invited to our Cool Summer opening on Friday evening, 10 January, at The Gallery,” says GIG president Lesly Stevenson. “Come and meet our artists, see their latest works and join in

our celebration as we start our third year with The Gallery as our home.” The Exhibition will run until the end of January. Visitors are encouraged to vote in the People’s Choice Award. All works will be available for sale and a fabulous raffle will raise funds for Wildlife In Need of Care (WINC), the local animal rescue group. Over 40 local artists belong to the GIG not-for-profit community group. In late 2017
GIG volunteers revamped the building and gardens known now as The Gallery, and within months of opening it attracted a Parliamentary Certificate of Recognition for being an outstanding example of a community service. “The Gallery has quickly become known as a welcoming place to stop by, to check out the latest works by GIG’s talented artists, have a chat, and take a coffee into its lush garden,” Ms Stevenson said.
“And I’m delighted to report that we continue to receive great feedback on the atmosphere, the art and how it is a drawcard for tourists to the area,” Lesly continued. The Cool Summer 2020 Exhibition opens on Friday 10 January at 5.00pm, and will run from 10am to 4pm daily thru January except Tuesdays when it is closed. Entry is free and the venue is wheelchair accessible. The Gallery is at 81 Marine Drive, Tea Gardens, diagonally opposite the ferry wharf and on the waterside café strip. With summer now upon us, it’s the perfect time to get out and about with our furry friends. Before you and your precious pooch hit the streets, there are a number of things you should know to keep you and your dog out of trouble. The Companion Animals Act 1998 sets out the responsibilities of dog owners when in public places. Some of the key responsibilities are set out below: 1. A dog that is in a public place must be under the effective control of a competent person by means of an adequate leash, unless in an area declared to be an off-leash area. A dog is not considered to be under the effective control of a person if the person has more than 4 dogs under their control at one time. 2. Dogs are prohibited in some public places.
Generally, dogs are not allowed to go: a. Within 10 metres of children’s playing areas. b. Within 10 metres of any apparatus in a public place that is provided for preparation of food for human consumption such as a public barbeque. c. Onto school grounds or child care centres, unless the owner has permission of the person controlling the school ground or child care centre. 3. A dog is required to have a collar arounds it neck that shows the name of dog and the address or telephone number of the owner of the dog. If you are found to breach any of the provisions set out in the Companion Animals Act 1998, you may be subject to hefty fines and in certain circumstances, your dog may even be seized.

“The Magic of Christmas” Community Concert By Sandra CLARK THE Myall Coast Community Carols “The Magic of Christmas” Concert wowed a capacity 450 plus crowd during Sunday evening 22 December. Held at the Tea Gardens Public School, the concert represented the communities of Tea Gardens, Hawks Nest, Bulahdelah, Pindimar, Bundabah and North Arm Cove. Enthusiastic co-hosts Donna Howarth and Neil Kibble entertained and were excited and enthralled. Michael Harvey, Producer and
Scriptwriter said,” Everyone on stage is a volunteer and I think this speaks volumes for the strength of our community.” Michael Conducted the combined 40 voice Choir from members of “The Melodians”, “Villa Voce”, U3A Choir and the local Church Choir. Angels, the Three Wise Men, Christmas trees, Elves, Snowmen, Rudolph and of course Santa created Magical Christmas scenes enhanced by the sounds and lights professionally produced by Uwe Seil. Gaetano Bonfante graced the stage with renowned renditions including a duet of “The Prayer” with incredibly talented local Jomeca, who also performed many Christmas carol
q favourites, in her old school grounds. Calling for Santa was a task for all on stage and audience alike, as he was off visiting in New Zealand. Never

one to disappoint he made a grand entrance, just in the nick of time. On this occasion the chosen Concert beneficiary was the Pindimar / Tea Gardens Rural Fire Brigade. Feliz Navidad, Spanish for ‘Merry Christmas” was sung by the consummate Cabaret, Concert and Television performer Vaughan Lawrence. Creating this Concert requires many months of planning, preparation, practice and participation, Michael Harvey said, “I am extremely grateful to the creative and resourceful team of volunteers presenting this show.” Rural Fire Brigade Captain David Bright accepted the welcome donation and said, “Just like those on stage here tonight, we too are volunteers and although we have respite from fire in our immediate area, we have all recently been busy travelling far and wide. This money will be used for firefighting equipment. Thanks to everyone.”
In May when it was decided that the beneficiary of this year’s concert would be the Pindimar/Tea Gardens Rural Fire Brigade, “We had little idea of the magnitude of the fires that were to come,” Michael Harvey said. Student performers from Tea Gardens Public School, St Joseph’s Bulahdelah and Medowie Christian School took it all in their stride, choreographed by Lesly Stevenson and costume designer Lesley Kibble. Many more artists entertained including Alan Anton, Jeff Morris, Tom Curran, Tom Howarth, Nevaeh Huckstadt, Liam Mitchell, Ella Howarth and Howarth family Trio “The Mistletoes.” Audience members revelled in the evening.” "I loved every minute of it.” “How lucky are we." “Wow what a show.” Santa one last thing, thank you for granting our Christmas wish, bringing the rain with you.

MR PL, I think you are being emotionally sensitive, which is an admirable quality. Social media seems to bring out the very best and worst in people and sometimes a good old spring clean can be quite liberating. You can do this in a few ways. The first is to grandly announce that you are having a break from social media, which you aren't actually doing, it is just a bit of a decoy, like the Liberal party trying to pretend Scott Morrison wasn't in Hawaii. Then you can go about and delete whoever you want. Alternatively you can write a contemplative post full of emojis indicating that you have reevaluated your friendships based on your star sign and deleted anyone who is incompatible. You may also like to add that you've changed your name to Powerful Deer and joined a tribe of like-minded people. Another option is to write offensive comments on each post this person makes and eventually they will block you, which is sort of like the 'it's you, not me, but I'm going to make you think it's me so you feel better about you' traditional method. Finally, there are all sorts of settings you can alter to change what you do and don't see and if you have the time or inclination to go to this much trouble, Mr PL, then perhaps you just need to delete your account altogether as it is causing you too much pressure at this festive of year. Carpe diem, Jasminda.

THIS is a frequently asked question. A granny flat is a definite value enhancer, particularly as a softer form high density development. Whether your granny flat is attached to your home, or is a separate building is irrelevant, but for your and your guest’s privacy - and sanity - a separate entrance is essential. Ideally, it will also be fully self-contained which not only enhances long-term rental prospects, but allows greater flexibility of use. A well constructed, maintained and presented granny flat provides additional space for family/extended family/guests and is increasingly popular as a teenager’s retreat, It can also serve as a revenue earner via on-going or AirB&B accommodation. And if you decide that regular guests are not your ‘go’, the space offers an ideal home-office or studio. The possibilities are endless...so go for it, maximise your property’s potential and reap the benefits!” Hope this helps Denise
