School Centenary a Momentous Occasion By Marian SAMPSON STROUD Road Public School is about to celebrate its Centenary. Having delivered 100 years of education in the small community, the school certainly has something to celebrate. It was established in October, 1919. The school currently services 78 families in Stroud Road. When it opened, Stroud Road Public School replaced a national school at Telegerry, which had been operating since May, 1860, and a provisional school named ‘Clareval” at Seven Mile Station, which opened in 1884. The school commenced

children also began attending Stroud Road Public School. After these students came the children of service providers, such as blacksmiths, carriers, teamsters, storekeepers and stationmasters. The late 1920s, saw the students from saw millers begin to join the school. Now a century later the school has 14 students from Kindergarten to Year 6. A celebration of the schools centenary will be held on 26 October, 2019.
The school will showcase its history during a casual morning tea, where visitors are able to view our collection of historical items, documents and photographs in our school hall. Stroud Road Public School Principal Adam Lewis told News Of The Area, “The day will kick off with a morning tea from 10am, a ceremony will be held at noon and lunch will follow at 1pm.” A highlight on the day will be student performances.
and DPI indicate that although visually unpleasant, the water in the lake is in a normal state with the problem occurring due to de-oxygenation caused by a combination of natural factors. Robert Bailey, Community Manager, from Beaumont Strata Management said, “No pollution source was identified and as this has happened before, nature is expected to correct itself.” “The Community Association Executive Committee will continue to monitor the water

One Hundred and West Returns Ninety Six tickets Sold FROM Page 1
By Ann SCULLY
EVEN though the doors did not open until 1.45pm for the local Fashion Show of the year, locals queued from 1.00pm in order to claim the best seat in the Grange Auditorium to view the latest fashions from retail outlets in Hawks Nest and Tea Gardens. One hundred and ninety six tickets were sold proving that the Fashion Show, choreographed and co-ordinated by Lions member Carole Richards, has become a very popular event and this was the third year for the production. And production it was with models proudly donning garments from all stores across our twin towns whilst having fun walking and sometimes dancing to the wonderful upbeat music provided by Jomeka and showing the public that all the time that they had devoted to rehearsals had come to fruition on the big day. Compere, Maggie Nadal, complemented
and entertained the audience as well as providing the audience with background information on the individual participating retail outlets and quirky quotes from various celebrities. Not forgetting the main thrust of the Fashion Show being a fundraiser for the Isabella & Marcus Foundation, Carole Richards, in her thank you speech, reminded everyone about the charity that had been chosen and said, “This charity was extremely poignant as one of the models granddaughters had passed away within fifteen months of being diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma. Carol went on to say, “When organizing an event of this nature, it is a little like the captain of a ship having a good crew and I certainly have had a great crew with all the models and everyone who has assisted, including backstage helpers, in making this Fashion Show such a huge success.
meeting, and will lead the Council until the Local Government Elections in September 2020. Cr West was first elected to the role of MidCoast Mayor in September 2017. Cr Claire Pontin was elected as the Deputy Mayor for the first time, taking on the role from Cr Katheryn Smith who has been the Deputy Mayor since September 2017. Cr Smith did not stand for re-election.

“I would also like to extend warm thanks to the management and staff at The Grange for providing the venue for the Fashion Show and assisting in the set up and dismantling and not forgetting the Lions members who also helped and provided scrumptious cakes to enjoy with tea and coffee.” Our local Lions Club should be very proud of themselves as this event has raised a mighty sum of $4300.00 which will be given to the Isabella & Marcus Foundation for their ongoing research. In March 2017, a Committee of the Australian Parliament was directed to inquire into how Australia’s Federal Family Law System can better support and protect people affected by family violence. It published its report and recommendations and “advocated for an accessible, equitable and responsive Family Law System which better prioritises the safety of families.” In May 2018 legislation was first touted for a merger of the Family Court and Federal Circuit Court of Australia as a solution to some of the problems. The court merger bills failed to win support of the Senate and consequently did not become law. In April 2019, the Australian Law Reform Commission released its final report into the Family Law System. It was the first comprehensive review of the Family Law System since the Family Law Act commenced in 1976 and
it made some controversial recommendations. It is the subject of continuing discussion, comment and articles amongst our team of family lawyers. Its significance may however be under a cloud after the announcement in late September 2019 that a Joint Parliamentary Committee of both the House and the Senate is to conduct yet another wide-ranging inquiry into the Family Law System. Whilst many lawyers have welcomed the inquiry as an opportunity for another considered and holistic approach to reforms, it is hoped that committee members will conduct themselves free from bias and pre-determined outcomes, and act impartially and with vision. Compromises and concessions to placate all pressure groups risks leaving the community with a Family Law System that resembles a camel, when its goal is a horse.

Assistance for the Outback
By Ann SCULLY
YOU may recall reading the Karuah Generosity story that went to print in News Of The Area on 4 September where two Karuah locals, Les and Hazel Wheeler were calling for donations of non-perishable items which they will deliver to parts of the outback for distribution to the needy people who are doing it tough. Two local ladies, after reading the story, Sue Ward and Helen Haslam decided to do something to assist the Wheelers with their Goldstar Crossword 17608 project and became extremely motivated in 1 2 3 4 5 encouraging people to donate. It did not take too long for the goods to start arriving and before too long Sue’s house was brimming with all sorts of items 8 9 10 that had been generously given by members of the Wednesday Mahjong group as well 12 13 as goodies from the Golfing ladies and also
monetary donations from members of the VIEW Club.
