Gabby’s National Crown Winner of Miss Multiverse By Daniel SAHYOUN GABRIELLE Keaton was crowned ‘Miss Multiverse Australia’ at a glamorous awards ceremony in Sydney last week. The Bulahdelah local beat nine other young ladies from across Australia to claim the national title. Contest director, Yolandi Franken, said Gabrielle’s great business skills, beauty and fitness
shown throughout the competition made her a “hands down winner”. Gabrielle will now represent Australia at the ‘Miss Multiverse World’ contest in the Dominican Republic in November. “I’m so excited to be able to represent the country and it will be great to be a role model for other girls,” Gabrielle said. Locally, polling places will be set up at Bulahdelah Central School, Booral, Bungwahl, Karuah, Stroud and Tea Gardens Public Schools, North Arm Cove Community Centre and Hawks Nest Community Centre. Although negotiating the table runner sized ballot paper can be a little overwhelming, you must
vote either above OR below the line. The NSW Electoral Commission said above the line, you need to write the number 1 in the box above the group of candidates you wish to vote for, but you can continue to number more boxes above the line if you wish. Below the line, you must vote for at least six
candidates in order of preference. With 69 hopefuls to choose from, 18-year-old Tim To from Tea Gardens said he has researched each of the candidates in the running. “I want to have my say, I know my vote is only one but it could make the difference,” he said. “I have read up on the candidates and their
preferences, because I want to know exactly where my vote is going.” First time voter, Leah Slockee, said she is basing her decision on issues she considers important. “If we don’t have someone representing us, we may not see improvements,” she said. Voting in the election is compulsory for all registered voters.

Best Chamber limited resources, we have done what many have considered impossible.” The awards are regarded as Australia’s most prestigious regional business awards and were presented in 10 categories, with the University of Newcastle and Nelson Bay Bowling and Recreation Club amongst the winners. North Coast Holiday Parks at Hawks Nest Beach was also recognised as a finalist for excellence in customer service. Hunter Chamber CEO, Bob Hawes, said the awards recognise excellence across the region. “The winners clearly demonstrate the superb work of organisations and individuals who are leading the way in making the Hunter a place where business and innovation thrive,” he said. The Bulahdelah Chamber will now progress to the state finals which will be held in Sydney later this year.
BULAHDELAH Chamber of Commerce and Tourism was named the best Chamber in the region at the 2017 Hunter Business Awards last week. Almost 600 people attended the gala presentation ceremony, where the Chamber was recognised for its achievements in representing the Bulahdelah business community. Accepting the award on behalf of the Chamber, President John Sahyoun thanked the local community for their support. “The work of a volunteer organisation is no easy task, and getting to this point would have been impossible without the support of our community and the many organisations and individuals in our town,” he said. “We have been challenged with multiple obstacles, and given our

The national amnesty is the first since the Port Arthur massacre in 1996, and will continue until the end of September.
Mr Alessi said the amnesty does not target lawful and responsible gun owners. “It gives anyone who might have inherited a firearm without proper licensing a chance to have it registered,” he said. “In my experience, licensed firearm owners in NSW are very, very compliant and are very conscious of the privilege of owning firearms and licences.” Mr Alessi said he hasn’t come across any outlawed weapons during the amnesty. “There has been nothing military in this area, it has been mainly

Small businesses are covered by different rules about dismissal of employees compared to bigger employers. These rules are set out in the Small Business Fair Dismissal Code (the ‘Code’). The Code applies to businesses with fewer than 15 employees. The calculation of the number of employees should include all employees. This includes the employee being dismissed and casual employees who are employed on a regular and systematic basis. The number of employees is counted at the earliest of: a) when the employee is told their employment has been terminated; or b) when the employee is given their notice of termination. If the Code applies to your business, it means that employees must be
employed for 12 months before they can apply for unfair dismissal. This is in contrast to the 6 month minimum employment requirement for larger businesses where the Code does not apply. When calculating the length of service of an employee, unpaid leave periods such as unpaid personal leave or leave without pay do not count. In circumstances where there has been a change of business ownership, service with the first employer may count as service with the second employer when calculating the minimum employment period. Employers should be clear about whether the Code applies their business as it can offer small business employers protection from unfair dismissal claims which can have detrimental impacts on the operation of small businesses.

Annual Gala Bowls Day
By John SLATER
ON Monday 28 August the Hawks Nest/Tea Gardens Men’s Probus Club held their annual Gala Bowls day at the Tea Gardens Country Club. Through the goodwill of the Palm Lake Resort at Tea Gardens, who kindly provided sponsorship, the event went ahead as planned. This is the first time the Probus Club has sought sponsorship for the event and possibly the first time a sponsor has had to be sought for any of the numerous Probus bowling events on the circuit. Organisers were closely watching the weather as the day loomed overcast, cold and windy but nonetheless 72 players took part representing 24 teams from 14 Probus Clubs in the Newcastle area. Despite the conditions, which deteriorated into occasional rain squalls, 20 ends were competed
before the bell when players thankfully left the greens for the comfort of the clubhouse and a very welcome dinner provided by the Queen’s Kitchen. The overall winners of the day were the Tea Gardens team of Robyn Beaumont and Kayelene and Greg Pearson. It was an added bonus for sponsors, Palm Lake Resort, in that all three of the winners reside in Palm Lake. They were presented with the Tea Gardens/Hawks Nest Probus Club shield by Jen Nichols, Sales Manager, Palm Lake Resort. Prizes were also awarded to 2, 1 and zero game winners. The local Probus Gala Day has been hosted by the Tea Gardens/Hawks Nest Probus Club for many years now in August each year. Most of the clubs in the Newcastle District participate in the Probus bowls circuit which is a great way to promote the Probus ideals of fun and friendship.

damn good” when she found out she had exceeded the minimum requirements. “I was hoping to get three band eights, so getting higher than that feels great,” she said. Classmate Katerina Poniris, who also achieved well above the required standard, said she was “very surprised” when she received her results. “I am so glad that I made it,” she said. “I didn’t think I did very well, I was very nervous going into the tests.” This year’s NAPLAN data reveals only 32 per cent of NSW students attained a band eight or above in all three tests, meaning they have already qualified for their HSC. But for around 61,000 NSW Year 9 students, an extra test in at least one of the three areas will need to be taken to meet the minimum requirements and be eligible. BCS Relieving Principal,
Mrs Deb Gilbert, said students can re-sit the test in Year 10, 11 and 12, or up to five years after starting a HSC course, to get that achievement. “Students can still get a Record of School Achievement for Years 10 and 11 and a Statement of Attainment for Year 12 and for finishing Stage 6,” she said. “They can still attain an ATAR for University Admission, but if they want the actual credential of a HSC, then they need to have met the minimum band eight requirements.” Mrs Gilbert said there are many extra supports in place to assist students meet the standards. This is the first year of the state government’s new minimum literacy and numeracy requirements which were introduced to improve educational standards.

Candidates Questioned
ROADS, funding, rates and teamwork are common priorities of candidates contesting the 9 September MidCoast Council election. Representatives from each of the 11 tickets and some of the ungrouped contenders, spruiked their campaigns at ‘Meet the Candidate’ forums held around the region last week.
The candidates also fielded questions from the public relating to employment and economic growth, inclusive representation and planning for the future. “There are challenges ahead and we need to get the council working together to give it strength and move forward,” candidate David
West said. “We have to look at the big picture of economic development and tourism, ensure equal distribution of funding and value for rates,” Karen Hutchison stated. Addressing the public, the hopeful candidates were quick to dispel fears that smaller communities could be left without a voice, with

The candidates also indicated who their
preference would go to. Group F, Karen Hutchinson, has indicated she is swapping preferences with Group A, led by Len Roberts. Group B, headed by Brad Christensen is swapping with Group I, Katheryn Smith. Group D’s Peter Epov stated he is exchanging with Group G, Kathryn Bell. We’ve just moved into our new home, and discovered the neighbours are nudists. They cavort around their pool in their birthday suits and it is very unsettling for my husband. He is spending ages in the garden trying to encourage our plants to grow more quickly so we can’t see them. Mrs LK, Hawks Nest.
Dear Mrs LK, NOW I could be leading you up the garden path here, but may I suggest that your husband is out in the garden for quite different reasons. You see, on the one hand we have neighbour Cynthia, cavorting on a pool noodle, having a whale of a time embracing her natural environment. On the other hand, we have Mrs LK, probably in a neck to knee jumpsuit, Mr Sheening the bookcase. Now which one of those options sounds more appealing to the average male with a pulse? Your neighbours are clearly comfortable in their own skin. They are probably oblivious to your husband in his terry towelling sun hat, secateurs poised, binoculars at the ready for some good old fashioned Hawks Nest birdwatching. Now that Spring has sprung, you are no doubt in for lots more neighbourly action. Maybe you should have attended a few more open-forinspection days, just to get a true feel for the local area. If it’s any consolation, this is a very seasonal problem Unless, unlike the council pool, they have year-round heating.

OPINION
Every Penny Counts Dear News Of The Area, I HAVE been a resident in Tea Gardens for nine years and we love our quiet little town but there is a lot of room to improve our area which the last Census showed we have the state’s highest percentage of over 60s in NSW. The former Council could have and should have done more for our aging population and now we have a chance with the election to get some forward thinkers on Council. Councillors should have KPIs but I think we need to ask more of them. We need some new blood on the councillor roster, not old
Dear News Of The Area, IT is my belief that those of us in Tea Gardens/ Hawks Nest would value an explanation from our Federal Member, the Hon. David Gillespie MP, Assistant Minister for Health, regarding the reports in the press that he has introduced a bill into Parliament recommending the self-assessment by industry of chemical risk. Such an explanation may serve to put residents’ minds at rest with respect to the removal from the present regulator, the National Industrial Chemicals Notification and Assessment Scheme

(NICNAS) of the function whereby they assess certain classes of chemical, including cosmetics, paints and plastics, prior to their use in industry. Chemistry Australia appears to have every confidence in the ability of the industry itself to monitor, minimise and mitigate any unexpected effects of introduced chemicals, even in the long term. Dr Gillespie represents the National Party in our electorate. He was the special guest at the Accord Industry Leaders Dinner last month. Their strategy has a goal “to achieve minimum effective and internationally
aligned regulation with no barriers to trade” (ref. accord.asn.au). The chemicals in question may be considered to have low toxicity - if so, how has their toxicity been initially assessed? Some may feel that the proposal to remove NICNAS in this instance could be like “putting the fox in charge of the henhouse” but until a better analogy can be found, we are deserving of an explanation of the process from Dr Gillespie.

from the management, so the councillors and residents can judge if we are getting Value for Money, particularly since we have had a recent “large increase in our rates”. Management Plans and KPIs are an integral part of running small and large private businesses, which often would have much lower budgets than that of a local council and it is residents money, not councillors’ or managers’ money. Every penny counts.

councillors, chest beating, I’m not going to argue that former councillors did a good or average job, we don’t really have enough information to make an informed judgement, but new and younger people with new ideas should be encouraged to be a councillor, “It is a Privilege” to be one. Once these councillors are elected and sworn in, whoever they may be, we hope that not only are they given KPIs to adhere to and be judged on but the councillors should also set KPIs for the new GM and all managers on the council and they should also ask that a one year, three year and five year strategy plan which is “on display” be requested
Dear News Of The Area, THERE has been a significant oversight in your otherwise excellent article, Cove Celebrations in News Of The Area, 31 August. It is true that the book, celebrating 50 years of community achievement in North Arm Cove, which was launched on 20 August, incorporated contributions from many people – as its author, Doug Kohlhoff, acknowledges in the inside back cover. But Doug’s work in writing most of the content, and working contributions from others into a gripping,
NewsOfTheArea.com.au
cohesive, unified book deserves to be recognised. MP Kate Washington, who commended and launched the book, and who had obviously actually read it, was lavish in her praise of Doug for his work. It is a shame that this was not reported. Doug is one of those very rare people, a genuinely humble man – in the sense of the old saying, ‘A humble man doesn’t think less of himself, he simply thinks of himself less’. So it is easy to miss Doug’s contributions to the life of the North Arm Cove
community. These include the NAC website, the village green, and the book. He has the complete support of the Residents Association (NACRA) executive of which he has been both a member and president for many years. There is, in the village green, by one of the seats a very small plaque that simply acknowledges Doug’s contribution. Susan Carter Secretary, North Arm Cove Residents Association

Action aplenty for community ON 17 September Pindimar/Bundabah Community Association will be holding their Annual General Meeting and usual bi-monthly general meeting at the Community Hall, Koree Street, North Pindimar, at 10.00am. There are many issues which concern the
association and they are active in campaigning for the best results. The quarry and destruction of old growth forest on and near Fame Mountain is on example. The proposed land based Abalone Farm close to South Pindimar Village with 4 sets of pipes (each 500 metres
long) going out into the Port is another. This Development Application is with the State Planning Assessment Committee now and the association is concerned about the pollution of Port Stephens water. This year’s Market Day will be held on Saturday, 5
“Even with a little government help, a 10 bed hostel was all we could afford and I had the honour of opening it 25 years ago,” Mr Sinclair told the gathering. Back in 1992 a dedicated group of volunteers kept the facility going. In 2007 another 14 beds were added. RSL Life Care came on board and another 17 beds were built in 2012. After a year of construction the new wing now brings the number of beds to 64 with new lounge and dining rooms.
The ceremony was also a chance to acknowledge the Gardens’ oldest resident, Dr Allan Stewart, and present him with his Order of Australia Medal which he received back in January. “Alan, who is a 102 years young, believes that as long as you are learning you are not old, so when you leave here everyone go and pick up a book and start learning,” Mr Sinclair said. The RSL’s 93-year-./ old Ted Mowbray told the gathering, “The theme of this dedication is respect, to provide care and well being for our aged residents.” “We cherish our past, present and future residents, our staff, past and present

By Margie TIERNEY THEY love their bikes and members of the Myall Lakes Ulysses Motorcycle Club are also passionate about keeping our youth active and involved. Last week, members from the Ulysses Club visited the PCYC Boxing Gym in Hawks Nest to show their support in the form of a welcome donation. They presented the gym with two sparring head gears and six safety mats. The gym is run by Tea Gardens Senior Police Constable Rob Wylie with the help from another local dad, Steve Peitch and trainer

Surf Club Donation By Margie TIERNEY
IT’S just a couple of weeks until the flags go back up on Bennetts Beach so a donation of $5,000 to the Tea Gardens/ Hawks Nest Surf Lifesaving Club couldn’t come at a better time. The funds came from a joint venture between the Myall Melodians and the Rotary Club of Myall Coast. The Melodians donated $2,500 from the box office receipts from a sell-out series of three concerts “A Tapestry of Musical Nostalgia”. The other $2,500 came from a special raffle run in conjunction by Rotary. Both the Melodians’ President, Ray Hosking, and the Rotary President, Graeme q

South Africa Revisited

COLIN Gatwick’s splendid presentation painted South Africa with a broad brush. His talk was truly informative both historically and geographically. Colin used detailed maps and many personal photographs to describe all the Southern African countries which he visited whilst working in Africa: Zimbabwe, Namibia, Lesotho and South Africa.
“Most of Botswana is dry and it is home to the famous Okavango swamps where water from the highlands of Angola spreads out before disappearing into the sands,” he said. Colin said that films like The Gods Must Be Crazy and the Number 1 Ladies Detective Agency depict Botswana to a tee and Gaborone is quite a modern city. Colin visited Zimbabwe on business, many times. He described the persecution of the white farmers under the
leadership of Mugabe who has led his country to ruin. It was once the food bowl of Southern Africa. He described the extensive series of stone ruins which have been dated to have commenced 700 years ago. Colin and his family spent over seven years living in Lesotho, between 1996 and 2003. The Mountain Kingdom is completely surrounded by South Africa. It has a unitary parliament and a Royal
degree there,” Mr Motum told News Of The Area.” The Motum family has been in Tea Gardens for four generations. “The way the voting system is set up, it’s made it more difficult for a local person to say come vote for me.” “It’s very difficult for a below the line candidate to do anything and if you look at things mathematically you wouldn’t stand, but winning is not the important thing, it’s putting yourself out there. “I’m here to make sure we can tell the council when something needs being done
in Tea Gardens, Hawks Nest, Pindimar, Bundabah and Bulahdelah.” Mr Motum is also committed to upgrading our community services in the Myall. “I think kids of today need to be kept active and I’d like to see more initiatives such as the PCYC in the area.’’ “I’d like to see our sporting facilities upgraded, we’ve got a swimming pool but it needs heating.” “We’ve got Memorial Park in Witt Street and the oval in Hawks Nest, they’re good facilities but they need a small amount of investment to keep them up to standard.” “We don’t need to let these go downhill while we dream about a sports precinct.”

Colin’s presentation gave the audience a fascinating overview of Southern Africa, geographically and historically and we are looking forward to his next presentation. WITH just a few weeks left until entries for the Port Stephens Literature Awards close, judge Lloyd Hogg has some tips for aspiring writers. “There is no such thing as good writing – just good re writing ,” he said. “The important thing is to get your story typed up and then to work on it.” “Get rid of the unnecessary adjectives
and adverbs and flowery language that doesn’t need to be there,” Lloyd told News Of The Area. “Make sure that there is a strong story line which draws the reader in. If you haven’t captured the reader’s attention within the first page or so, the judges will not treat it kindly.” “With so many entries to wade through, they are on the lookout for stories that
stand out from the run-ofthe-mill,” he added. There is an exhaustive judging process whereby as many as nine preliminary readers come up with the top 20 short stories. “They then award their ‘readers choice’ $50 prize to the one they consider the best and then hand the shortlisted entries over to the finalists judges.” These three judges then
independently rate them from one to 20 and add up the points to decide the winners. These are announced at the Quilt Show at Club Lemon Tree in November. Entries close on 30 September and all details can be found by clicking on ‘Port Stephens Literature Awards’ on the News Of The Area website home page.

Surf Life Saving Season kicks off soon Spring has sprung and that means the flags are going up again on Bennetts Beach to kick start the 2017/18 season.
By Margie TIERNEY
SPRING has sprung and that means the flags are going up again on Bennetts Beach to kick start the 2017/18 season. The Tea Gardens Hawks Nest Surf Life Saving Club will raise the flags on Saturday 23 September to coincide with start of the school holidays. The TGHN Surf Life Saving Club is also looking for new members to become Nippers and join one of the
most successful clubs on the North Coast. “The organisation promotes fun, fitness and friendship whilst giving back to the local community,” Kate Maddison said. “We had some amazing results across the whole club last season.” “We had Nippers attend Branch and State and receive medals.” “Our club also came first at State for the women’s surf boats, the club’s first gold medal in the boats at State
and we had competitors attend Branch and State and many medals from this plus two who went to Worlds and won medals.” New members can register online www. sls.com.au/join or at Registration sessions on Friday 15 September at 6pm and Sunday 17 September at 2pm, both at the club at the end of Booner Street. The first Nippers activity will be Sunday 8 October 17, 1pm at the local pool.

q Winners 2017 Club Championship Triples: Bev Rhodes, Wendy Brand and Elizabeth Kelly.
TUESDAY 29 August: The final of the Club Championship Triples was played as well as social bowls. What a great contest this was, between six very accomplished bowlers. Bev Rhodes, Wendy Brand and Elizabeth Kelly bowled against Robyn Beaumont, Maynie Roberts and Kayelene Pearson. Elizabeth’s team held a narrow lead from the start, by the 11th end they were ahead by 8 shots. Kayelene’s ladies dominated the next 4 ends scoring 8 shots, equalising the score. The 16th end resulted in 1 shot to Elizabeth’s team then 3 more gained on the 17th end, this gave them a 4 shot lead. At this stage all spectators thought things were “done and dusted”. Kayelene’s team had
other ideas and on the 18th (final end), they scored 4 shots, once again levelling the score. Another end had to be played to determine a winner. Neither side ever gave up in this final and when the last bowl was delivered the Umpires had to be called to measure for the winning shot. The winners of the Club Championship Triples 2017 by 1 shot were Bev Rhodes, Wendy Brand and Elizabeth Kelly. Great bowling by all competitors. Thanks to the Controlling Body Francis Betar, Umpires Nola Jackson and Karen Green. Unfortunately due to overcast, cold and windy conditions there was not a good turn up for social bowls. The format for play was a game of Pairs and a game of Triples. A good win to Jeanette Emmett, Bev Stephens and

Lynne Green 23 v Jean Glover, Dorothy Thompson and Pat Baker 8. Pam Gilchrist and Carol Hayden 21 defeated Sheril Johnson and Lynda Richards 16. The winners for social bowls decided on 10 for a win and 1 for each end were Jeanette, Bev and Lynne. Prior to play everyone joined in to wish Maynie Roberts happy birthday. Great to see Jeanette Emmett and Verlie Gray back at bowls. Following the final everyone enjoyed a terrific lunch thanks to the hard work of our Social Committee Dale Winter, Bette Saillard, Dorothy Dallas and Ingrid Luck. Get well soon, Dot Montgomery. Thursday 31 August: Last day of winter, hopefully weather conditions will improve. Social bowls was played 2 games of Pairs and a game of Triples.
Due to the SE/SW winds blowing at 20 to 30km/h, the 15 degrees Celsius temperature and the light showers of rain, all players opted to play 12 ends, instead of the designated 18 ends. The results of play were Lynne Green and Verlie Gray 14 v Nola Jackson and Dorothy Thompson 7. Dianne Kiss and Carol Hayden 13 v Bev Rhodes and Sandra Leisemann 11. Francis Betar, Pam Gilchrist and Lynda Richards 10 v Ingrid Luck, Robyn Webster and Kerry Faber 8. Kerry bowled well as Skip, a position in bowls she usually declines. The winners on the day with the lowest winning score were Francis Betar, Pam Gilchrist and Lynda Richards. Next week four team of Fours will be competing in the Newcastle District Spring Carnival which is held on the 4th, 5th and 7th September. Social bowls will still be played on Tuesday and Thursday of that week. Sunday mixed bowls on the 10th September play to commence 1000.

THE Hawks Rugby League 2017 season has been difficult. “Experience in administration over the years has thrown up many a challenge. Since 1991, this season has been the most challenging”, was quoted by the Club Secretary. The Tea Gardens Hawks started the season
in a flurry, with resounding wins in the trials, only to be brought back to earth early in the competition proper. Injury and player commitment has seen the side struggle all year. On paper, the 2017 squad is probably one the best the Hawks have had available over the years. However, their ability to compete in A grade against Clubs with affiliated Tooheys Cup, and Clubs with “strong
Greentree, and Brooke Roach were prominent. Ryan Saunders added much needed “starch” into the game. Still in the game at halftime, the Hawks were unable to match Fingal Bay, going down by 40 points to 18, with two soft tries in the last 10 minutes. The Hawks will regroup for 2018, with Brooke Roach committing to his 10th year with the Club as Coach. The Clubs presentation night and AGM will be determined at their next meeting.

They played West Wallsend in the elimination semi-final at Raymond Terrace Sports Complex in a grinding game. The win by 30 points to 18, moved them into the elimination final against Fingal Bay. Going into the game with confidence, the Hawks were blindsided by a strong “Bomboras” outfit, sprinkled with Toohey’s Cup players. His efforts on the park, which include 80 minute games, has been inspirational. “Brooke Roach’s input to the Hawks Club including the Juniors and Ladies will not be surpassed”. The Hawks were defeated in the last competition round by Fingal Bay. A controversial finish saw Brooke Roach “score on the bell” only to be denied by

Nominated Triples Tea Gardens Men’s Bowling Club By The JAFFA
30 August Thirty-two bowlers participated in the usual Wednesday Nominated Triples today. Numbers were down due to the Club’s commitment to the Newcastle District Three x Three Pennant competition. I might have put the “mockers” on the Greg Pearson team last week as they did not win the money today. The team of Henry Dallas, Brian Emmett and Bill Whalan, wrestled the crown from them running out winners on 54
points. Well done! The Queen’s Kitchen team of the month was Peter Jones, Scott Beaumont and Danny Johnson. In the Three x Three Pennant game, Tea Gardens took on one of the bigger clubs in the Newcastle District, Raymond Terrace, at home. There are 55 teams competing in the Grade 3 section of the draw and Raymond Terrace would be expecting to make the finals. Half way through the match it appeared that the home side might cause an upset. Tea Gardens were leading on all three rinks.

am.
Player’s player 3 points Luke Perry, 2 points was a three-way tie with Sam Croese, Jake Blanch and Sean O’Neil. Coaches Award went to Tim Higginbottom and Sponsor Award Justin Anderson.
BOWLING
It was not to be, however, with the Henk Faber side conceding too many multiples at the wrong end of their game. They lost by 12 shots 15-27 to a well-disciplined team who normally play in a much higher grade in the Saturday Pennant competition. The Noel Jackson combination had a very tight game losing by just two shots 18-20. The remaining team, skipped by Merv Mills, posted a good win winning their game 23-15. The master Board saw Raymond Terrace the victors, 62-56.
The Mighty Dolphins play another strong team next week against another large Club, East Maitland. East Maitland is an unknown quantity as it has just entered Zone two and I doubt whether any Tea Garden’s team has competed against them in Pennant play. A loss against East Maitland will see Tea Gardens exit the competition. In other news: The semi-finals of the Club Mixed Pairs competition will be played next Saturday, 9 September with the final being played the following day.
