reopen wildflower walk
SIXTEEN volunteers have managed to clear an important local wildflower walk that has lain almost untouched for three years since the start of COVID restrictions.
The Thursday Walkers Group spent a sunny morning working on The Michael Rowe Memorial Walk that winds behind the dunes from Hawks Nest Surf Club to the boundary of the Myall Lakes National Park on Mungo Brush Road.

Group co-ordinator Ray Hughes thanked everyone for their work on the track, which had become an annual tradition for the walkers.
The walk is very significant for its magnificent wildflower displays.
“It’s possibly the best I’ve seen here in many years,” said Adrienne Ingram, who co-ordinated with the Bitou Busters weeding group.
“The walk is now open for all to enjoy.”

Rock Oysters are considered some of the best oysters in the world.
Now the industry will benefit from the production of more local seafood, thanks to a multi-million dollar upgrade to one of Australia’s largest specialised fisheries and aquaculture research facilities.
Minister for Agriculture
Dugald Saunders said the $5.7 million investment in the Port Stephens Fisheries Institute includes a new Marine Fish Hatchery and major upgrades to the Fisheries Nutrition research facility and Mollusc Hatchery, forming part of the NSW Government’s $100 million research infrastructure package to support our world-class food and fibre industries.
“This investment in aquaculture research helps our industry put more NSWgrown seafood on Australian plates,” Mr Saunders said.
“Investing in research and the necessary infrastructure to undertake industry-specific research projects is one of the most effective ways to ensure our seafood producers have profitable and sustainable businesses.
“The Institute conducts marine and freshwater
ecosystems research, aquaculture research, threatened species research, fisheries resource assessments and aquatic biosecurity and aquatic environment protection and management.
“Previously, fisheries and aquaculture research and development took place in ageing infrastructure, so this investment has been welcomed by seafood producers locally and across NSW.”
The Garden Eatery takes out award at NSW Catering and Restaurant Awards
ON Monday 22 September, representatives of Tea Gardens Country Club and The Garden Eatery travelled to Sydney to attend the NSW Restaurant and Catering Awards at Royal Randwick Racecourse.
The Garden Eatery was a finalist in Regional Asian Restaurant and Consumer Vote Categories.
Although just beaten in the Asian Restaurant Category by the highly fancied Newcastle Japanese
restaurant Nagisa, The Garden Eatery triumphed in the Consumer Vote category.
General Manager of the Country Club, Warren Gooley, said that everyone at the Club was very proud of the result achieved.
“Over the past two years our industry has seen some extraordinary hardships and troubles.
“Covid-19 meant lockdowns and loss of livelihoods and the resulting staffing crisis has
left businesses crying out for workers to help keep the doors open.”
Warren joined Jenny and Ly in thanking the staff both from the Club and the restaurant for their hard work and also the many members and guests who have continued to provide support to the business.
Our town was also fortunate enough to be represented at the Awards by Mumms on the Myall who were finalists in the regional Seafood Restaurant and regional Breakfast Restaurant Categories.

Research at the improved facilities is anticipated to achieve doubling of numbers of marine finfish fingerling production capacity over the next five years; supporting the oyster industry with continued selective breeding, while assisting the emergence of new industries based on seaweeds and microalgae; attracting an additional three new research partnerships in the next three years; and, ensuring the continuity of
spat and fingerling supply for existing and developing aquaculture, and for marine fish stocking exercises, including Mulloway and Dusky Flathead.
Investments under this program will help deliver a new generation of scientific breakthroughs like droughttolerant crop varieties, datadriven on-farm decision making, fast-tracked genetic improvements in cattle and sheep and improved biological control of pests.
Who Gets the RAD?
by Cavelle Lindsay
When an aged person goes into care it is usually necessary to pay a Residential Accommodation Deposit (RAD) For most aged care providers the RAD is in excess of $400,000.00.
Irrespective of who makes the money available for the RAD, in the event of the death of the resident, the aged care provider refunds the RAD to the estate of the deceased resident. It then passes under the Will of the deceased person.
It often happens that the resident does not have sufficient funds to pay the RAD before going into care. Therefore a third party provides the funds on occasions.
A difficulty arises in the event of the death of the resident in that the RAD is refunded to the estate of the deceased resident. The care provider has no obligation to pay the RAD to whoever paid it to them. The resident is deemed to have paid the RAD.
It is therefore important to have documentation put in place before the RAD is paid in the event that a third party pays the RAD for the resident and expects that RAD to be repaid to him or her when the resident dies. The documentation could be in the
form of a loan to the resident.
If the Will of the resident does not provide for the refund of the RAD to the third party (and usually it doesn’t) then the provider of the RAD can claim the amount of the RAD as a debt in the estate. Often this detail is overlooked at the time when an elderly person goes into care as the emphasis is firstly on finding a suitable care provider and then raising the RAD. The circumstances surrounding the repayment of the RAD are often overlooked and can become a problem (depending on who pays the RAD) when the resident dies. If the RAD is paid by a third party then the Will of the resident can be changed to cover that scenario, however often the resident no longer has testamentary capacity to make a new Will when he or she goes into care.
It is important that legal advice be obtained to ensure that the provider of the RAD (if it is not the resident) gets his or her money back when the RAD is refunded by the care provider.

BCS celebrates Graduating Class of 2022
THIRTEEN years of schooling has come to an end for the Bulahdelah Central School (BCS) graduating class.
BCS Principal George Frangos said the students had “showed us all how to get on with it throughout the last three extraordinary years”.
“Thirteen years of schooling is coming to an end.
“You have been on an incredible journey.
“You demonstrated resilience during this unprecedented time through your commitment to your studies and stepping up to the challenges.
“You have been a remarkable year group.”
Mr Frangos wished the graduating class all the very best for their future undertakings in 2023 and beyond.
“Never give up on the truly important things in life and focus on what makes you happy and content.
“Congratulations Class of 2022!
“We will miss you! We are so proud of you!” said Mr Frangos.
Deputy Principal Melissa Parotta said the graduating class conducted themselves “with dignity and tackled every challenge presented with determination and positivity”.
“No doubt your memories will include significant moments like your first day of
school, your favourite teacher, your friends, the excursions and of course, the changes brought about by COVID-19.
“It has been such an incredible time.
“You should be very proud of the hard work that you have put in and especially proud of the lovely people you have become.”
BCS student Raylee Kierens said, “Spending time with friends was one of the highlights of
my thirteen years at BCS.
“Amongst my proudest achievements were representing the school at the National Futsal Championships at the Gold Coast and completing Year 12.
“If I could have changed one thing at BCS it would have been the fence. It made arriving late and sneaking out during the day a bit of a challenge."
Raylee now plans on starting a career as a personal trainer.

Parklets Find New Home In Karuah
Regional Finals of Premier’s Spelling Bee
ON Friday, 9 September, two of Bulahdelah Central School’s Primary super spellers participated in the regional round of the Premier’s Spelling Bee.
Jaida Morgan of Year 4 participated in the Stage 2 competition while Jordan Brown of Year 6 represented BCS in the Stage 3 competition.
“Although students from other NSW Primary schools took out the win in both sections, Jaida and Jordan handled the complexity of a ‘Zoom competition’ very well and they spoke with confidence and pride,” said Hayley Nicholson, BCS Assistant Principal.
“Well done to you both!”
By Marian SAMPSON
THE parklets which caused such angst at Shoal Bay are being welcomed at Karuah.
The local community is repurposing the structures which, along with planters, are hoped will become a highlight of a renewed and vibrant town centre.
The project has been made possible through a small grant from Port Stephens Council.
Port Stephens Councillor Jason Wells told News Of The Area, "It's great to see the community work so well with Council staff to repurpose these resources to benefit the Karuah main street, the impact is set to be amazing.
"The project really helps to set the tone of Karuah as a vibrant and welcoming town.
"This is only the start of community-led projects in
Karuah.
“I am a strong advocate for the current place making processes that were implemented in Karuah by council and which have led to the Karuah Place Plan.
“It gives the community guidance and direction and it gives the council a clear picture of what the community needs and desires.
"The success of the Karuah Place Plan is reliant on an active and passionate community - and this great town has plenty of this!
"The hard work of the community should be applauded and I trust this passion for the community will flow through to future projects in the town."
In a true community effort, volunteers have helped to get things happening already and the parklets will
be refreshed in the colours selected for the future look and feel for Karuah.
The local team at NSW Rural Fire Service also got behind the effort to make the town shine by pressure cleaning the pavements.
The team at Albert Johnson Mining Timber Specialists are also working hard, and the Link and Lock timbers they create for the mining industry will be used as planter boxes.
Wild Weedz are currently storing the parklets and it is hoped that they will be refurbished and installed by mid-October in time for the Karuah Timber and Oyster Festival.
More volunteers are needed for painting and planting and to help show the pride that Karuah has in its town centre.
This is the first year Bulahdelah Central School students have participated in the Premier’s Spelling Bee.
“This shifts from a school-based format, so our Stage 2 and 3 students can compete and be recognised beyond our immediate school community.
“It was particularly special for Jaida to progress to the next level after winning the BCS Spelling Bee five years in a row –Kindergarten to Year 4!
“Undoubtedly, an impressive achievement.”

Invite your friends to visit and win a local staycation
THE second round of Barrington Coast’s ComeVisit campaign is underway.
ComeVisit encourages MidCoast residents to win prizes just by inviting their friends and family to visit.
The ComeVisit platform helps you create your own digital invitation for your friends and family by using one of the templates provided or by uploading your own photo and personalised message.
It is fun, free, and easy to use.
It comes with an RSVP option for them to lock in a visit.
“Over 600,000 friends and family of our residents visit the region each year making it a huge contributor to our visitor economy,” said
Deb Tuckerman, MidCoast Council’s Manager Growth, Economic Development and Tourism.
“It was also one of the first markets to bounce back following Covid-related drops in visitation,” said Ms Tuckerman.
In this second round of competition we’re enticing locals to again send invites with the chance to win a stay and play Gloucester Experience.
The prize pack contributed by local businesses is valued at over $2000.
When the campaign launched in June, over 300 invites were sent by our residents to their friends and relatives to come visit the Barrington Coast.
Sixty recipients RSVP’d
with intent to visit.
A local resident from Lansdowne sent the most invites in the first round.
She received an exciting Myall Coast Experience donated by local businesses, providing the opportunity to discover more of our own backyard.
This second of three competition rounds for the ComeVisit campaign opened 12 September and closes Sunday 6 November.
To go in the running to win, start sending your invites now!
“This is a great opportunity for a local to win a short get-away at Gloucester with a few friends or family,” said Ms Tuckerman.

Single Use Plastics Killing Marine Life
By Marian SAMPSON
NSW is getting ready to stop the use of single use plastics.
To drive home the message on why it is so important to ‘Stop It and Swap It', a new campaign will highlight the impact of single use plastics on marine life.
Shocking images of plastic pollution in the ocean and a turtle choking on a plastic bag feature in a thought-provoking new advertising campaign released ahead of the NSW Government’s November single-use plastic ban.
Minister for Environment James Griffin said the confronting images are an important reminder about why the state is banning certain single-use plastics.
“Our new Stop it and Swap it campaign is a stark reminder about
why the NSW single-use plastic bans are critical for our environment – as consumers we must all change our behaviour,” Mr Griffin said.
“About 95 percent of the litter on beaches and waterways comes from suburban streets, and the vast majority of that litter is single-use plastic.
“The amount of plastic in our oceans is predicted to outweigh the amount of fish by 2050.
“That is a horrifying prediction and a call to action to ensure our wildlife, like the turtle featured in the campaign, can have a brighter future.
“The NSW plastic bans are just the beginning of our massive shift away from single-use plastic, and they’ll prevent 2.7 billion items of plastic litter from entering the environment over the next 20 years.”
Plastic packaging and
single-use plastic items make up around 60 percent of all litter in NSW, which is why the NSW Government is banning more single-use items from November.
Lightweight single-use plastic bags were banned from 1 June, and from 1 November, the NSW Government is banning single-use items including: plastic straws, stirrers, cutlery, plates, bowls and cotton buds, food ware and cups made from expanded polystyrene, and rinse-off personal care products containing plastic microbeads.
Taronga Wildlife Hospital Rescue and Rehabilitation Coordinator Libby Hall said they treat an array of wildlife cases each year, and sadly, many of these arrive at Taronga suffering the impacts of having ingested plastic.
“Just recently, we admitted a Green Turtle
hatchling that was only a few weeks old and excreted plastics for several days after it arrived,” Ms Hall said.
“While thankfully this little hatchling is still with us, sadly many have not been so lucky and it’s a sobering reminder of how our actions can have devastating impacts on endangered wildlife.
“Nearly every marine turtle we’ve had in has been impacted by plastic in some way – either through ingestion or entanglement.
“Many of these animals come in deceased, and
there are only a few that survive.
“So if you have the choice not to use plastic, please don’t use it.”
The easy-to-understand messaging of the Stop it and Swap It campaign aims to raise awareness about the single-use plastic bans and will be translated into multiple languages to reach diverse communities across the state.
As a destination where turtles can be seen in the port it is vitally important that Port Stephens is clean and green and that everyone of us focuses on
Myall U3A Art Exhibition
THE Myall U3A Art Exhibition will be held on Saturday and Sunday, October 1 and 2 between the hours of 10 am and 3 pm at the Old Library in Hawks Nest (the demountable building adjacent to the Community Hall). It is free of charge and all visitors are welcome.
“We feel so fortunate and delighted to be able to have our traditional October long-weekend Art Exhibition after the lengthy Covid-19 hiatus,” declared an art group member.
“We only realised the true value of getting together on a weekly basis with other like-minded people during the time we were unable to do so.
“The connection, support and camaraderie between group members is
invaluable.
“What seemed a bit scary, after not having touched a paint brush since school years, quickly turned
ensuring plastic doesn’t end up in our waterways.
Earlier this year Sea Shelter released a Green Sea Turtle at Fly Point that had been entangled in a fishing line and subsequently lost one flipper.
Sea Shelter is located at Irukandji Shark and Ray Encounters and the charity led by a Marine Biologist works with the team at Taronga Zoo and the Port Stephens Koala Hospital to assist and care for injured and sick turtles in our region.
into fun and excitement as we explored our creative side.
“Now we thoroughly enjoy challenging ourselves and love stretching our artistic horizons.
“We invite you to pay us a visit and trust that you’ll take as much delight in viewing our artworks as we had producing them.”

Based on a true story, Keira Knightley leads this feelgood political comedy about the events that unfolded at the Miss World Pageant in London, 1970. Director Philippa Lowthorpe (The Crown) lightheartedly celebrates the women’s liberation movement, and explores racism and gender, telling the story of a group of angry young women who concocted a plot to interrupt the live broadcast of the pageant. Also starring Keeley Hawes and Gugu Mbatha-Raw (pictured above with Knightley), this movie is fearlessly fun.
Pink-haired comedian Cal Wilson is a perennial favourite guest on this long-running and much-loved musical quiz show. Tonight, Wilson showcases her music knowledge once again before she puts home bakers to the test as the new co-host of The Great Australian Bake Off by former The Voice Australia contestant Thando and one half of the electronic music duo Peking Duk, Reuben Styles, along with fellow stand-up comic Nath Valvo. Host Adam Hills and team leaders Myf Warhurst (pictured) and Alan Brough banter in the charming way only old friends can, before a stirring performance from Melbournebased international outfit Ausecuma Beats.

AIDER Program
Did you know the NSW Rural Fire Service offers a one-off service to support some of our most at-risk community members to prepare their property?
The AIDER program is designed to assist elderly and disabled residents living in bush fire prone land in preparing their homes ahead of the fire season.
AIDER services can
involve clearing the gutters, removing debris or thinning vegetation.
For more information or to register, visit the RFS website: www.rfs.nsw.gov. au/plan-and-prepare/aider NSW SES Stroud Unit
Congratulations to Garry and Jono from the Stroud SES Unit on completing ‘Participate in a Rescue Operation’ training and receiving their qualifications.
PIARO is one of the foundation skills which
prepares NSW SES Members for advanced skills training.
A representative from the Unit says Jono is progressing to Land Based and In Water Flood Rescue training and Garry will hone his existing In Water Flood Rescue skills by attending professional development training soon.
Marine Rescue
On Saturday 24 September, the wife and husband team of Angela (Radio Room) and Murray (Master Rescue Vessel
PS30) combined to assist a distressed vessel in the Myall River.
At approximately 11:00am, Marine Rescue Port Stephens received a call from a distressed vessel indicating they were unable to start their motor.
At the time, a massive storm hit Tea Gardens dumping hail and rain on the persons on board the open runabout in distress.
Acting quickly, Murray assembled and briefed his crew and set off to assist

GARAGE Sale Trail returns to the MidCoast over two weekends on 12-13 and 1920 November.
Mr David Rees, Manager of MidCoast Council Waste Services, said the event is a “fun way for residents to connect, make some money and keep good stuff out of landfill”.
To participate, you can declutter and sell pre-loved goods or shop the trail and snag a guilt-free bargain.
Anyone can host a garage sale.
Registration is free and once you’ve registered with Garage Sale Trail, you’ll get access to plenty of tips,
resources and tools to help you with your sale.
There are even free Trail Tutorials by speakers including Craig Reucassel, Annabel Crabb and Barry Du Bois, to get you inspired.
“It’s a great way to reuse items you may no longer want.
“Keeping stuff in use for as long as you can by buying or selling it at a garage sale makes sense for the planet and makes cents for participants.
“It’s the circular economy in action and it’s something all MidCoast residents can get behind,” added Mr Rees.
Between 29 October and 5 November, the MidCoast community can be part of the series of inspiring and educational talks about sustainable fashion and renovations.
The Trail Tutorials are hosted online and free to attend.
More than 300,000 Australians are expected to participate as sellers and shoppers over the twoweekend trail.
By participating you’ll extend the life of stuff you love, meet the neighbours and make some money.
Register your sale and find out more at www.

Surf Life Saving Patrols Return
By Marian SAMPSON
SUMMERTIME is swimming time and in Australia that means it is time for the volunteer Surf Life Savers to patrol our beaches.
The red and yellow is back on NSW beaches with more than 20,000 surf life saving volunteers ready to welcome beachgoers as the official patrol season begins.
Premier Dominic Perrottet joined Minister for Emergency Services and Resilience Steph Cooke, Surf Life Saving NSW (SLSNSW) President George Shales and volunteer lifesavers at Bondi Beach last week to raise the red and yellow flags for the
first time this season.
“The raising of the flags is a significant occasion for the people of NSW because it means we can get back out after a cold winter and safely enjoy all the beautiful coastline our great State has to offer,” Mr Perrottet said.
“Please listen to the advice of our Surf Life Saving experts, don’t take unnecessary risks and always swim between the red and yellow flags to make sure you and your family enjoy the water safely.”
Ms Cooke said $1 million worth of SLSNSW jet skis and support operations vehicles will be rolled out across the State to better support the
work of volunteers.
“The addition of eleven jet skis and eleven fully kitted out support vehicles will further enhance the ability of our lifesavers to respond to emergencies in the water and help people when they get into trouble,” Ms Cooke said.
“Our lifesavers from the 129 clubs up and down the NSW coastline are looking forward to being on patrol every weekend and public holiday between now and Anzac Day in April.”
Mr Shales said despite a third consecutive La Nina being declared, large crowds are expected at beaches throughout spring and
haveyoursay.midcoast.nsw. gov.au/reimaginewaste
summer.
“We had a very wet year last season but beachgoers need to remain vigilant after a record 55 lives were lost in the 12 months to June 2022,” Mr Shales said.
“We’re ready to help if you get into trouble but we need to work together to keep our beaches and coastal waterways safe for all to enjoy.”
Patrolled beach locations, patrol times and live weather updates are available on the BeachSafe app or the beachsafe.org.au website.
There are patrolled beaches from Stockon through Salt Ash, Birubi Point, One Mile Beach, Fingal Bay and at Bennetts Beach in Hawks Nest.

By Paul DORIN
Dear Jasminda,
On the Couch
It is so hard to get into a local GP, that by the time my appointment has come around, my symptoms have changed or gone altogether.
What's the answer?
Dear Gina,
Ms Gina R.
In regional communities it can be very challenging to get appointments, and some doctors close their books to new patients, making the pool of available doctors even smaller.
On the positive side, if your symptoms have cleared up by the time you get an appointment, it sounds as though you don't have anything too troublesome going on.
You can always refer to the symptom you had when you made the appointment, and your GP can no doubt diagnose based on that.
You can also try out a telehealth appointment. I used this service when my son and I had Covid, since if you have a runny nose, a cough, a sore throat or myriad other symptoms these days, you may as well have the plague.
Only well people can sit in GP waiting rooms (remember the good old days when waiting rooms were full of coughing people and the kiddies were left to play with a sad lot of mucuscovered toys while the adults flicked through germy magazines).
With online doctor services, you enter a virtual waiting room and then have a phone or Zoom conversation with a GP.
You can even send photos of the symptoms and get a script emailed to you. Worth keeping in mind.
Of course, for very serious symptoms, don't hesitate to attend your local hospital.
Again, the waiting times can be challenging, but at least you're in the right place if things go really pear shaped (metaphorically speaking -- if things are really going pear shaped, you probably just need to eat less and move more).
Carpe diem, Jasminda
Jimmys Beach Aquatic Club Mullet Run Surfboat Event
By Peter RODGERS
ON the weekend of 17 and 18 September, the newly formed Jimmys Beach Aquatic Club, conducted the inaugural 'Mullet Run' in conjunction with the Myall Classic Kayak and Paddling event on the Myall River.
The Jimmys Beach Aquatic Club was recently formed to assist with an opportunity for surfboat rowing in our local community, which a number of Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest local residents had previously enjoyed.
With the Jimmys Beach Swimming Mullets allowing the use of their logo, Tea Gardens Hawks Nest now also has the surfboat rowing
Mullets, hence the 'Mullet Run' event on the weekend.
There are now over 35 local residents from Tea Garden Hawks Nest now surfboat rowing with the Mullets.
The Tea Gardens Hawks Nest Mullets joined the Myall Classic on Saturday morning rowing from Mungo Brush, through Tamboi, to finish at ANZAC Park Tea Gardens, a distance close to 30 kilometres for the crews to complete. The Myall Classic had over 160 paddlers competing.
The Mullet Run event and Jimmys Beach Aquatic Club has been generously supported by local businesses.
Without asking for
support, but seeing what was evolving, local business asked to be involved to support this local TGHN activity.
To Gardner Rose, Parry’s Cove, Hawks Nest Beach Real Estate, Silk Islands, Jeromy Nolan Travel, Peter McClennan Denture Clinic, Quasar Electrical, MJB Plumbing and the Aussie Bush Camp, the group appreciates your support enormously.
With three crews and support crews from Tea Gardens Hawks Nest being joined by five crews from Sydney, including the Australian Representative Crew and 2021 Australian Open Surfboat Champions - South Curl Curl - the crews left Mungo Brush on Saturday morning while the Myall Classic paddlers
commenced up the Myall River from Anzac Park over 3 different distance events.
A great joint event for the local community culminated on Saturday in Anzac Park with awards to the paddlers and the official boat launch of the 'Mullet 1' Surfboat that had been kindly donated to the Mullets by Terrigal Surf Life Saving Club.
Paul Quick, President and Surfboat Captain of Terrigal Surf Life Saving Club, and his wife Lyn, attended the event to christen the boat and unveil the names that are to be carried on the surfboat in
all its activities.
Mullet 1, the first surfboat for Jimmys Beach Aquatic Club, has been named 'The John Estens' and 'The Steve SCUBA Howell' , both great supporters of the local Tea Gardens Hawks Nest Community and two people who provided enormous work and effort to get Jimmys Beach Aquatic Club equipment on the water.
To continue the weekend the crews then returned to Anzac Park on Sunday morning and completed a twelve-kilometre return course to Pindimar in slightly more windy and
Croquet Fun Day
By Marian SAMPSON
JUST like chess and bridge, croquet is a game of skill and strategy.
It also has a physical aspect that nearly everybody can enjoy.
Recently members of the Myall Park Croquet Club welcomed members of the Hawks Nest Probus Club onto the greens for a friendly game
of croquet.
Several members of the Tea Gardens Hawks Nest Probus Club attended the game and what transpired to be a great fun morning of croquet at Myall Park.
Sue Dodds told News Of The Area, “We extend many thanks to Michele and Suzie and their very capable assistants for providing us all with a delicious lunch.
“The weather was smiling on us on this great spring day!”
The croquet became an ice breaker and there was plenty of discussion about how to take the best shot and win a hoop with many of the Probus visitors surprised by how much fun was to be had.
Everyone is invited to join in with the Myall Park Croquet Club.
“We play Monday, Wednesday and Saturday mornings at 8.45am for a 9am start and we are all looking forward to seeing visitors join us there,” she said.

testing conditions than the Saturday on the Myall.
They were hosted at the turnaround point by the Pindimar Recreational Club and its President, Peter Larkin and wife Michele.
Myall Coast Community Radio were also in ANZAC Park on Saturday with their roving reporter 'Mungo Jack' in attendance. A podcast of the event and additional photos can be found on the Myall Coast Community website.
A great community event that will be back on the Myall calendar for both paddlers and surfboats in September 2023.

MYALL Masters swimmer Chris Lock has been recognised in the NSW Parliament.
Chris is 80 years young and a dedicated community member, volunteering in several community groups and organisations, but is best known for his swimming successes.
Recently Chris represented the Myall Masters Swimming Club at the Masters Swimming Australia National Championship where he walked away with five gold medals and four silver medals, breaking two State records.
Chris broke the record for the 25 metres backstroke and his own State record for the 100 metres backstroke, taking two seconds off his own time.
Member for Port Stephens
Kate Washington recently recognised Chris’ success in the NSW Parliament where she provided a Community Recognition Statement to the House, allowing her to speak for a minute about the good work being undertaken by local residents and organisations.
“Where others may see retirement as a time to relax and take on a slower-paced lifestyle, Chris Lock from my electorate of Port Stephens saw it as a challenge,” Ms Washington said.
“Chris recently represented his Myall Club at the National Championships, and he came away with an impressive haul of medals.”
Ms Washington said she was so impressed by Chris’ recent medal haul that she had to share his successes with the House.
“I congratulate Chris who is an inspiring and young-atheart man,” Ms Washington said.
