MasterChef’sWinning seventh season in 2015 taught Billie that with passion, hard work, and lots of research you can do anything if you put your mind to it.As a new mum, accepting to take part in the 14th season for 2022 was a much bigger decision than in 2015, she said. Being away from her daughter Ada for months was a big call for her young family. “As a new mum I was really quite anxious about being away for over six months, in the end part of the reason I accepted was for my daughter Ada, as a mum I want to be a good role model for her.” When asked by a student what she wanted to do next Billie answered, “We live in a very special little town, I’d like to set up a small café or something”.NewsOf The Area spoke with Billie after the assembly, asking how it felt to find herself back at her old school talking with students, and later demonstrating her talents with a mystery box cook off organised by the Bowraville Central Hospitality Academy. “It’s very special to me, I’ve great memories of my years here, many of the buildings are familiar, it’s great to know this school is here,” she said. “To be honest I have a few butterflies in my stomach with today’s cooking, it seems harder than being on MasterChef.”BillieMcKay is no stranger to the pressures of cooking in a commercial kitchen, and she took the 40-minute cooking session in her Evestride.Riches said the Bowraville school’s pantry contained ingredients from local food sources and bush tucker.Billie answered questions from students as she cooked ingredients from both the pantry and the mystery box.

By Andrew VIVIAN AUGUST is Tradies National Health Awareness Month, begun ten years ago by the Australian Physiotherapy Association.Theassociation is concerned that physicallydemanding trade jobs can cause and exacerbate a range of injuries. It found that tradies are overrepresented in workplace statistics compared with other workers and the average time off work because of serious workplace injury is five-to-six weeks, which is time many tradies simply can’tTheafford. association encourages tradies to evaluate their workplace culture and practices and to focus more on their health and safety. In Coffs Harbour, optometrists and audiology professionals have joined forces to remind local labourers, tradespeople, and home DIY’ers alike to be vigilant of looking after their eyes and ears. This comes after new research has found that of the 9,298 technicians, tradespeople, labourers, and machinery operators in Coffs Harbour, about half, are not taking the preventative measures to look after their eyes and ears. The research also found those that consider themselves ‘weekend tradies’ or ‘DIY professionals’, are also not prioritising their ear and eye health.Of the 73 per cent of Australians who do handy work around the house (eg, mowing the lawn, gardening, painting, DIY projects with power tools), 39 per cent of them admit to not wearing hearing and/or eye projection for these activities. Local Coffs Harbour Central Specsavers Optometrist, Jason Kimberly, said, “We can’t stress enough how important it is to look after your hearing and your eyesight”.Hesaid, “Once you lose it, there is no getting it back. “However, there are preventative measures you can take and it’s even more important for our tradies to be taking these precautions as their working environments make them more vulnerable to experiencing damage to their hearing and sight.”

Caleb Johnson, from Forest Built, holds a ‘toolbox meeting’ each week with his team and includes safety issues. He said, “The biggest occupational health and safety issue with apprentices is ear and eye protection”. Mr Johnson said, “I stress this with our young blokes because I’m suffering a bit from not taking enough care when I was young”.

Yarrahappini Uniting Church marks 70th birthdayByJenHETHERINGTON

DEAR BUSINESS OWNERS

THE chorus of ‘Amazing Grace’ echoed across the grounds of the Yarrahappini Uniting Church this month, as people gathered to mark the institution’s shift into its eighth decade of Localsworship.andvisitors alike gathered on Sunday 7 August to celebrate the history and the rededication of the church.Mrs Dianne Nolan, lay preacher (in training) conducted the service which began with welcomes, candle lighting and a resounding rendition of ‘Amazing Grace’. “Do with our hands, that which we do with our heart,” Mrs Nolan told the congregation. As part of a group of congregations known collectively as the Lower Macleay River Multi Centre that includes Yarrahapinni, South West Rocks and Gladstone congregations, the Uniting Church welcomes all, she said. “The local landmark has been a place of worship for 70 years, though the building was originally established near Gladstone then moved here to avoid flooding,” said Janice Walters who delivered a concise historical oration during the special service, including stories of births, deaths and marriages, complimented by a printed collection of photographs displayed in the church foyer. With shelter and seating set up in expectation of the many attendees, locals provided baked delicacies and a commemorative cake was shared by all.Several generations of families were represented and Dianne Urquhart, attending with her sister Megan Cochrane and Mum, Beverly MacDonald (nee Williams), said, “What a great turnup and a great mix of age groups. “We’re glad the rain showers held off.” Krissie Goodchild (nee Warwick) said, “Everyone drives past the church on the way to and from work or on the school bus. “You can’t miss it, it’s a lasting legacy of the past, and good for the future.”

In addition to the exhibition there will be live musical performances on the outdoor garden stage from noon featuring the incredibly-talented singer songwriter Kauri MunroGreentree.Kauri is a percussive guitarist and singersongwriter from Tingha, NSW.A self-taught Gamillaroi man who has lived in Bellingen for the last 12 years, he has developed his own unique style of rhythmic curling finger tapping, allowing the beats of the guitar to play through him.Kauri is currently recording his debut album ‘FullEveryoneCircle’. can meet Munki at 1pm for an artist talk in the gallery. “I love to play, to transform, to create something from nothing, to make mistakes, to talk too much, to make art that prompts people to bend their minds a little,” said Munki. There will be a kid’s corner with Munki Art colouring activities and a temporary tattoo studio for the little ones to enjoy.

The 4th round will be interesting as at least four players are in contention. Playing conditions have meant nothing to Paul Donges - he'll have to ‘stumble at the barrier’ to be beaten in the C gradeHadchampionships.hishandicap been a couple of shots lower in the first round, he would have had a good lead in B grade. While his handicap has now dropped to B grade level players finish the championships in the grade they started.

By GRUMBLEGrumpy’s SORRY Sports Fans, I know how you rush out to get this paper to read this very informative article, but hereditary dementia kicked in and I remembered on Wednesday which is too late for Monday’s deadline.Anyway last Saturday Poppy Boyle and Bonzi Coughlan helped the Nambucca Roosters League players with their end of year tipple with bowls and there were some good prospects for when they finished playing. The Women played pennants on Tuesday with Division 2 winning and Division 4 going down. Social bowls were played Wednesday and Friday with winners and losers. Mickey Mouse Pennants started on Saturday and of course it rained Friday night and Saturday morning putting some people in a panic.Division 2 played Kempsey at Kempsey going down in the last couple of endsCharlie57-49. Who and ‘the Good Brother’ made their debut for Nambucca playing with ‘Urky’ (always needs a lift ) and Ty Webber winning 24 -12, ‘Rowdy’, ‘Wizza’, ‘Gracie’ and ‘The Riddler’ went down 11- 23 and ‘Swanny’, ‘Poppy Boyle’, ‘Darcy’ and for a while ‘Wicky Ward’ went down 16-23. Division 3 played a red hot side from South West Rocks and won 57-50 ‘Bonzi’, ‘Oxy’ ,Owen Smith and Mick Ellison lost on the last end 14-15, Don Lean 92 and played like a bowler half his age, John McCollom, ‘Drum’ and Pete Meehan 21-19, ‘Bolto’, Niel Duffus, ‘Goldie Horn’ and ‘Cosi’ 22-16 well doneDivisionLads. 4 went down to Sawtell Blue 65-50, ‘Magic Mike’ James, ‘the Eel’, Terry Snowden and ‘Sprinkler Pope’ lost 16-26 Tom Reynolds Brent Liddell, Peter Hill (not the Dentist) and Peter Fredricks went down 13-19.On the bright side ‘Grommet Billy Blair’, Tony Stokes and Joe Frank won 2120, it's on again next week so tick your name early so the selectors have some idea what'sThehappening.usualprogramme is on next week.

Ruth tragically passes away shortly thereafter, without receiving a final draft of the finished will and without executing it in the presence of two witnesses, being the legal requirements to make a valid will. Searches for any other wills that Ruth may have made are unsuccessful, and in order to deal with her estate, Ruth’s sister makes an application to the Supreme Court, seeking a ruling that the Court will dispense with the formal requirements of making a will and declare the online questionnaire as being a “document”, sufficient to form a validThewill. Court reviews the meaning of a “document”, as set out in the Interpretation Act, which states that a document is “something from which images or writings can be reproduced with or without the aid of anything else”. The Court rules that the online questionnaire was in fact a document. The Court also finds that the online questionnaire was capable of being described as a will because it “was a statement of the deceased’s wishes for this disposition of property after death”. The Court considers it relevant that the questionnaire was completed relatively close to the time of Ruth’s death, in terms of establishing the intention to make a will and despite the closeness to her death, found that there was no evidence that she did not have the capacity to make a will. The Court ultimately finds that Ruth had intended for the online questionnaire to operate as a legal will and after a one day hearing, grants probate. Email Manny Wood, principal solicitor at TB Law at manny@tblaw.net. au or call him on (02) 66 487 487. and runner up was Denise Paluch (15) with 71 net.Indivision two Lyn Grose (26) was the winner with 72 net and Rhonda Rowe (25) was runner up with 76 net. In division three Lyn Parkes (31) was the winner with 69 net and Bryony Brownlie (440) was runner up with 72 net. The ball comp went down to 77 net. NTP’s were 5th Kerrie Eichorn, 8th Linda Puccin and 13th Ann Antcliff. The putting competition was won by Denise Paluch. On Thursday 81 starters played a stableford event which was sponsored again by Nambucca River Removals. This event was played in two divisions and in Division one John Hopkins (19) was the winner with 39 points. Runner up was Daryl Wall (13) with 38 points.InDivision two Alvin Rapley (30) was the winner on a countback with 37 points from runner up Paul Maxwell (29) also with 37 points. The ball comp went down to 33 points. NTP’s were 5th Nathaniel Beverley, 7th Greg McCoy, 8th Phil Mander, 13th Robert Reid, 15th Greg McCoy and 18th Neil Duffus. On Saturday, following some drizzly weather in the morning, a stableford event was held, again sponsored by Nambucca River Removals, and this attracted 66 players. This event was played in two divisions and was the annual Kerry McCoy Cup Day. This day is held in memory of our esteemed past President and Captain Kerry whose commitment and dedication to our club will be long remembered by us all. His Cup goes to the club member who has the best stableford score on the day and this year it was won by Nathan Ison. We were delighted to have Kerry’s wife Lyn and his daughter Maureen present on the day to share the presentation of trophies. Maureen’s husband Steve and nephew Drew joined us for the golf event and their exploits on the course added some merriment at presentation time (Kerry loved a bit of banter and he would be proud of them both). Division one was a tight contest with Nathan Ison (13) Troy Herbert (8) and Chris Knight (12) all finishing with 39 points. The countback resulted in a win for Nathan and a runner up prize for Troy. Division two was won by Peter Moxon (19) with 36 points from runner up William Mann (18) on 35 points. The ball comp went to 33 points. The longest put on 2 went to Troy Herbert and NTP”s were 5th Col Wormleaton, 7th Drew Glasson, 8th Chris Knight, 13th Eddie Penrose, 15th Phil Mander and 18th Frank Taylor. DEAR Jasminda, One of my siblings is inviting his new girlfriend to our wedding and insisting she be in the family photos because 'she's the one'. The problem is he's been with 'the one' about 15 times before and now we have a heap of lovely family portraits with ex-girlfriends and we can't display them. I don't want to hurt his feelings, but I also don't want to pay thousands for photos that will end up redundant. Loretta Dear Loretta, That's definitely planning ahead. I like it. I guess past performance dictates that you are no longer confident that he's found true love that will stand the test of time. And since you're no doubt paying for the photographer, you should have the final say. One solution, and an idea that is becoming more popular, is to have prewedding photos for the bride and groom. This takes away some of the stress of the actual wedding day and gives you a chance to have a trial run. You may even want to have some photos in clothes other than your wedding attire, because, really, how many wedding photos can be on display in a home? Another idea is to position her at the edge of any photos. You'll then be able to crop her out without too many issues if or when she's no longer in the picture (which may be the first time I've understood what that saying actually means). You could also have a bit of a heart to heart with your brother about his track record and hence your need to make some alternative arrangements on what is your big Don'tday.feel too bad. Hopefully you only have one shot at this, so make the most of it. Carpe diem, Jasminda.

MONDAY 9-1-1: LONE STAR SEVEN, 9pm There’s nothing like a spot of therapy to really get to the nitty-gritty of a character and add Fromintriguingsomelayers.thecreatorsAmericanHorrorStoryand Glee, this fast-paced procedural serves up drama from a Texan fire, police and ambulance department, but lately an emotional blaze has been smoking inside firefighter Owen (Rob Lowe). This week, the troubled veteran of emergency situations finally opens up about his childhood, uncovering a hidden fear that is tested when the 126 gets a call involving a clown at a young boy’s birthday party. Grace (Sierra McClain) reaches out to a co-worker after a devastating emergency call.

FRIDAY GARDENING AUSTRALIA ABC, 7.30pm There’s a season for everything in the garden (or planter box); when this beloved show goes off air once a year it takes time to acclimatise and adjust to Friday evenings without the enthusiastic banter and tips from presenter Costa Georgiadis (above). The hosts deserve a well-earned rest, of course, but the viewing public’s yearning for the plant-loving series never wanes. This week, Friday night is once again in full bloom because Gardening Australia is back. Breath a happy sigh of relief as Sophie dives into soil science, Costa visits a laneway transformed by love and plants, Tino resets the vegie garden for spring and Tammy meets home hydroponic growers. 1908 tv listings

It’s comforting that over 10 seasons of grim discoveries (aka dead bodies), our titular protagonist hasn’t changed much, especially in her appearance. After countless murder cases, Detective Vera Stanhope (Brenda Blethyn, righta) could be forgiven for being haunted by the horrors of her small, windswept town, turning up to work in track pants and gumboots. Instead, her olive-green trench coat and bucket hat live on. It’s one of the ways the charming series stays true to Ann Cleeves’ novels.
