KYLIE Saul has joined the quest to make prostate cancer history this September. She will join thousands of Australians aiming to cover the distance to the moon, 384,400km, for Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia’s pinnacle event, The Long Run. Held during Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, The Long Run calls on locals to run, walk or wheel 72km throughout the month to raise funds and awareness for those impacted by the disease.Prostate cancer has overtaken breast cancer as the country’s leading cause of cancer, with 66 men diagnosed every day.
In NSW’s Mid North Coast alone, nearly 300 men are expected to be diagnosed this year.Kylie, who is based in Yarranbella, said she was inspired to take action after multiple family members have been impacted by prostate cancer. “My dad’s five brothers (my uncles) were all diagnosed with prostate cancer, and their dad (my grandfather) unfortunately died of prostate cancer. “We found out there is a genetic link, meaning that my two sons, my brother, his children, and his grandchildren are all at risk.” This is the second time that Kylie is taking part in The Long Run, having also ran it last year. She hopes that by doing her bit, she can continue to improve awareness and raise vital funds for prostate cancer research.

The majority of Australian avocados are however grown in Queensland, which growers are prevented from exporting to Japan due to Queensland Fruit Fly. “A whole of government approach is urgently needed to gain access to Japan for eastern seaboard (QLD/ NSW) grown avocados. “If this can occur, then together with the access Western Australia currently has to Japan, it will provide Australian avocado growers an opportunity to supply the Japanese market on an almost year-round basis, something that no other country can do,” he “Disappointingly, said.this is an opportunity that through lack of urgent action from government continues to go begging. “I encourage both the Federal Agriculture and Trade Ministers to work together to address this issue as a matter of absolute urgency for the greater good of the avocado industry, and the economic sustainability of regional and rural communities where avocados are grown.” Mr Hallahan said other countries, including Peru, Chile, Argentina, South Africa, Canada, Mexico and the United States had successfully gained access to China and other southeast Asian countries for their fresh“Theproduce.common denominator at play here appears to be that these countries take a whole of government approach to trade access negotiations.”

COSTA Group is urging the Albanese Government to prioritise export market access for horticultural products into key markets. Sean Hallahan, Costa CEO and Managing Director, said lack of access to key markets, especially Japan for Australia’s avocados was affecting the entire industry. “It is vitally important for the new Albanese Government to prioritise export market access for horticultural products into key markets, most prominently Japan,” Mr Hallahan said. Japan imports huge volumes of avocados principally from South America, and small volumes from Western Australia.
COFFS Harbour Golden Oldies Cricket Club have taken on a Mid North Coast veterans team in an inter-district social match at Phillip Hughes Oval in Macksville. It was a fine game of winter cricket, as Noel Chapman arranged for the preparation of a wicket and use of the beautiful Phillip Hughes Oval at Macksville to stage a social game with good neighbors, the Mid North Coast. In terms of age the younger Mid North Coast team held a slight advantage, but the picnic atmosphere of the event left no-one in doubt that veterans cricket is alive and well on the NorthCoffsCoast.Harbour opened the batting and posted 129 off their 45 overs. THE Casino Lions and Nambucca Valley Lions have played out one of the most thrilling finals matches in AFL North Coast history. The two teams couldn’t be separated after 60 minutes of their reserves preliminary final at Ce.x Coffs International Stadium. It would be the Casino Lions who would eventually book a grand final spot, prevailing by five points after ten minutes of extra time was Nambuccaneeded.Valley had a snapshot to tie the game in the dying seconds, but it went through for a behind. A goal by Casino just before three quarter time gave them a two-point lead, setting up a grandstand finish. It was a frantic final quarter as the lead changed hands a number of times, with a Casino goal tying it up at 51-51 with one minute to go from the centre bounce, as both teams couldn’t get the solitary point needed for victory.Twocrucial goals in the final five minutes of extra time saw the Casino Lions prevail in an instant classic. The Port Macquarie Magpies steamrolled their way into the senior men’s season decider with a 49-point win against the Grafton Tigers. A dominant third quarter from the Magpies was the difference, as they outscored the Tigers 30-1 on the back of a great combination of hardness winning the contested ball and skilful movement of the ball into the forward 50, as well as a rock-solid defence. The Sawtell/Toormina Saints will contest the under 17s grand final following a thrilling and tense fourpoint win against the Port Macquarie Magpies.

DEAR News Of The Area, I’M writing in response to the recent tragic loss of a local resident at Forster Beach, Scotts Head. While the medical circumstances of the loss are not mine to comment on, the lack of ready access to a publicly accessible defibrillator is an issue that warrants discussion.
Regards, Marlene NambuccaGRIFFIN,Heads q The courtyard in use at election time.
As I understand, the village has one 24 hour publicly accessible defibrillator at Club Scotts.
The list is huge: education, social security, social housing, health, transport, water, domestic violence, aged care, disability, mental health, drug abuse, weeds, ferals, pollution,Everyoneetc. demands a bit of the pot. So the pot has to be used better and/or get bigger. We need higher revenue via productivity, taxes and reform.
Given the timing of the loss, the Surf Club defibrillator was not available as it is secured and not accessible outside of clubThehours.incident responders were unaware of the Club Scotts defibrillator.

The Court also accepts Adam’s submission, that in the circumstances the gifts from a parent to child were reasonable. However, the Court rules that David’s final gift to Adam of $100,000, which occurred after the Tribunal’s decision, was invalid because Adam was at that stage, aware of David’s vulnerability. Email Manny Wood, principal solicitor at TB Law at manny@tblaw.net.au or call him on (02) 66 487 487.

It is argued that David lacked a sufficient level of memory to recall the various gifts that he made to Adam and that he lacked the sufficient degree of independence to voluntarily agree to Adam’s requests.

Signage for community defibrillators
Given the circumstances of the loss, would the Nambucca Valley Council be amenable to the provision of signage in Scotts Head and other council towns that clearly indicate the location and availability of community accessible defibrillators?
HYPOTHETICAL Taking a Legal Look
By way of example, Yamba has a wellestablished network of town signage that clearly indicates the availability and location of 24hr Publicly Accessible Defibrillators - see images. The next life saved by early access to a defibrillator may well be yours or a loved one. Regards, Glenn TAYLOR, Scotts Head.
Conversely, the medical practice and pharmacy defibrillator are not publicly accessible as they are required for inlocation medical events; notwithstanding, the medical practice defibrillator was provided on request. While a defibrillator was subsequently used to attempt resuscitation, it was unsuccessful.

, a successful businessman, has accumulated a multi-million dollar estate. Unfortunately, at the age of 65, David is diagnosed as suffering from dementia. Shortly thereafter, David appoints his daughter Robin as his financial manager, under an enduring power of attorney. During the course of a year, David also makes a number of substantial gifts, totalling $1 million, to his son Adam. Another family member successfully challenges David’s mental capacity to make the power of attorney and the Tribunal rules the documents invalid. When David passes away, the gifts to Adam are the subject of a dispute.

DEAR News Of The Area, POTHOLES are still there on the local roads. We hit them, we dodge them. Why haven’t they been fixed? Who shall we blame? What’s the reason? Obviously we think and take potshots at the localButgovernment.thelocalgovernment has its reasons for coming up short. No money, no time, no workers, another disruptive rain event. One thing for sure is that we expect the government to fix and handle it. Thus we need pots of gold in terms of resources and management. It is also argued that in circumstances where Adam was on notice as to David’s mental state and was aware of David’s vulnerability, that Adam exerted a degree of moral pressure when David suffered from a “special disability”.

be to see a public space like this, in the middle of our town, which is fenced off and unable to be used except during library hours. The development is set to cost over $5 million, a sum much higher than was originally estimated, and we were promised a “cultural hub” to serve as a “community meeting place”. The idea of a fenced off area is not conducive to an attractive aesthetic exterior or a community meeting ‘hub’ and seems to go against the prevailing ideas in town planning which are to open up communal areas in town centres.Wecan only hope that this “fencing off” idea might be reconsidered in coming months and that this aspect of the plan might also be re-visited.

Don’t Fence Us In DEAR News Of The Area, A NEW updated plan for the Nambucca Library Upgrade project is now on display in Nambucca Library.Due to the position of power lines and other factors, the original plan has required modification. Hence the updated version. As far as we know, the fencing off of the new courtyard and gated access, which was on the original plan, still stands. So the courtyard area will be enclosed by fencing and therefore only be open to the public at times when the library is open or when there is a function in the Small or Main Hall. The plan, outlined to us many months ago, is that library staff will lock and unlock the gate or gates. This means that the community gathering space will not be accessible to residents or visitors in the evenings, for most of the weekend or on public disappointingtourists.isspaces.tomorewhentheseUnfortunatelyholidays.arethetimesthepublicislikelytowantenjoyrecreationalNambuccaHeadsatownattractivetoHowitwill
The Court investigates the various gifts to determine whether Adam had sufficient knowledge of David’s condition to give rise to an “unconscionable dealing” and whether Adam had, in a “predatory fashion”, exploited David’s position of disadvantage.
By Paul DORIN
The Court carefully considers the circumstances surrounding each transaction and finds, for the most part, that at the times in question, Adam did not have knowledge of David’s “special disability” and also finds that there was insufficient evidence to establish that Adam had engaged in conduct that amounted to “victimisation or exploitation”.

Petra B Dear Petra, There could be a scientific reason for the imbalance.Somepeople just don't respond to certain eating plans due to genetic and environmental factors.Itis possible that you are both eating well, but your individual genetic makeup means you are responding in a more beneficial way than your husband. Or .... there could be more insidious reasons at play. Your husband may not be following the 5:2 diet or the Mediterranean diet or the Paleo diet (which only works when you run great distances to hunt and gather your meals, having a heart attack along the way, because the eating plan is full of saturated fats). He may, instead, be following the Bit on the Side diet. In keeping with its origins, the Bit on the Side diet is marked by deceit. Your husband may happily leave home with his kale, sweet potato and home-made houmous wholegrain wrap, eight almonds, and an apple, but then, unbeknownst to you, he enters the dark side (otherwise known as the drive-through), supplementing this with the all-day big breakfast hotcakes combo with a side of hash browns and strong coffee (don't hold the full-cream milk). He then surreptitiously removes all traces of his fast-food affair, carefully placing the packaging in the bin, wiping the maple syrup residue from the steering wheel, and putting on a new shirt free of deep-fried oil stains. May I suggest you follow him one day (make sure you don dark glasses, a trench coat and smoke a pipe for authenticity) and then you will uncover his seedy underground eating habits and the real reason he is gaining weight while you are losingCarpeit.diem, Jasminda.

Ever Heard Of A Sacrificial Anode? AnodeOriginal Cutaway section of a typical electric hot water heater A sacrificial anode is a vital part of your water system, and having it inspected can be the difference between an efficiently working system and a costly replacement. Manufacturers recommend that you maintain the anode in your system in order to prevent damage from rust + corrosion. After its 5th birthday – warranty expires. THE ANODE IN YOUR SYSTEM SHOULD NEVER BE ALLOWED TO CORRODE AWAY, WHATEVER TYPE OR BRAND OF SYSTEM YOU HAVE – Solar, Electric, Gas or Heat Pumps. FOR A LIMITED TIME we will check your anode in your area free of charge. “REMEMBER, YOU CAN’T LOSE.
