ISSUE 36 Local is beautiful This issue is a hodge podge of fashion and beauty, happiness and LOVE! What does “love” mean to you? What we like about this issue is the love note that each and every interviewee left. We did not over think it. We let it come organically and naturally. We liked our shooting locations this month with our different people. The plethora of people and their different cultures was more than interesting. We wanted to learn what love means to them! Because it was so much fun last month, this issue features something more exclusive! We made sure not to focus on only one area of the fashion realm but also on different ones including lifestyle. The work that it takes to have a good issue is totally worth it, with the help of a good team as well. It can be just as lovely as the first issue, but more meaningful.

SUHEYN CAPRIANI

Miss Eco International “World Leaders need to go further and really help people!” Suheyn Capriani, 23 years old and a psychiatry student, is the current Miss Eco International. Born in Peru, she travelled to Mauritius to compete in the Miss Eco Mauritius final on February 1st. Have an exclusive interview with this beauty queen. For Suheyn, being a Miss Eco International is to have a huge commitment in terms of awareness. Most of the time, she is encouraging the next generation to work towards changing the environment and the society in which she lives. Suheyn works with children and travel around the world to bring positive changes. She had the chance to work with people in her country and shared her experiences with them to raise awareness. They started by planting 200 trees and now more than 2,000 trees have been planted. They aim at doing more. As for World leaders and their contribution to the protection of the planet, Suheyn is positive and believe that they are now starting to realize how important it is to do so. This is something she cannot ignore. In the past, for personal reasons, they have ignored it. Now people are experiencing this contribution and it cannot be hidden. “They need to go further and really help people,” she says. The young lady has really enjoyed her stay in Mauritius. A visit in Port Louis which she qualifies as “beautiful and dynamic”, a look at our beaches which she finds “quiet”, Suheyn has had the feeling to be at home. “I strongly encourage people to come to Mauritius for a tour...” Through her experiences, our Beauty Queen is even more encouraging towards other women. For her, beauty is not just about makeup and beautiful outfits. If many people tend to forget that beauty and intelligence go hand-in-hand, Suheyn strongly disagrees to that. She voices out that every woman is beautiful in her own way. “Such contests are not just about makeup and catwalks. It is also about spreading positive and powerful messages,” she says. Her trust in women’s actions can be more that felt as she speaks to us. Suheyn encourages young women to get involved in such actions. It is, for her a different way to change the world and help to save the planet. “Women have the ability to take actions”

CATCHING UP WITH AURELIE PEROUX

“Love at first sight”

Aurélie Péroux is a woman of many talents. She is passionate about living a healthy lifestyle and supporting other people to succeed. When she’s not busy training at the gym, she can be found sharing her favourite activities on Instagram. We caught up with Aurélie to find out what she loves about modelling, how she balances her very busy life and how she feels about diversity in the fashion industry. Encounter… Aurélie Péroux, 27 years old, lives in Pereybere and is a Zumba trainer at Ennoia Fitness club. Becoming a model was for her a real little girl’s dream. She recalls the day she was looking at Miss Mauritius on the television. She instantly told herself that one day she will be living this dream as well and was more than determined to become the next Miss Mauritius. Her first beauty pageant was Beauty Queen. It was an opportunity for her to live her passion. “I still remember the day the director of Beauty Queen called me. I was shocked and amazed. I wasn’t expecting to be among the 12 finalists. The purpose of this adventure was to learn the basics of modelling and most of all to have fun,” she relates. Team Newstyle wanted to learn more about a typical day for a model. For because this is where his passion really took off., it is much of “a long day”. Her routine: Getting up early, eating a hearty breakfast, pack up her bag with all the necessary items for the day. “The first rule of the game is to be patient, very patient when it comes to makeup and hairstyling. Most of the time we eat, take pictures, have fun and chat while waiting for the show,” she shares. Modelling has brought a lot to the young lady’s life. She managed to discover another world as well as new codes of life. Thanks to this industry, Aurélie has been able to gain in self-confidence washing away all shyness. “I learned to love and take care of myself. And I believe this is something everyone should learn,” she states. Her best memory so far in modelling is Cédric Lanappe’s first fashion show, a topless fashion show for Hans Telvave’s charity show. A memorable one because this is where her passion really took off. Just like a lot of models, international model Tyra Banks was Aurélie’s biggest inspiration. Basically, the young lady has been dreaming of the same modelling path as Tyra.

Since this issue sheds lights on Valentine’s day – yes lovers, we have already stepped into the month of love, we tried to know a little bit about the lady and her personal (not so much) life. In fact, we wanted to talk about LOVE! So how is Valentine’s day going to be this year for Aurélie and her lover? “He always surprised me. Then let the magic of love do the rest,” she says. She remembers meeting her sweetheart three years back at the Caudan Waterfront in Port-Louis. This encounter was literally a “Love at First sight” situation. “We spent 30 minutes together, talking about everything. Then…we kissed,” she relates with a gorgeous smile. The lovers have a lot of memories together, but the best for Aurélie remains their visit to Saint Emilion. “We ate the best macaroon in the world and taste the best wine,” something to cherish forever. It is very well known…with love comes arguments! As much as they love each other, Aurélie admits that arguments are also part of their relationship. However, together with her partner, she is so much busy building a strong relationship that they almost forget their biggest fights. “It’s rare to see a couple that doesn’t fight. We cannot spend a minute without talking to each other. So, we usually don’t fight,” she states. According to the beautiful lady, the key to success for a couple is to be able to trust your partner and share the same values in life. Being at the best level and laughing together is also very important. Moreover, compatible intimacy – both physical and emotional also helps. “It is also essential to have strong communication with your partner. However, a successful couple needs to be able to solve problems and let go,” she shares. In the technological age, where everything moves at 1000 km/h, it is more and more difficult to find the time to sit down and establish a real relationship for many people. However, Aurélie contradicts this saying and points out that a healthy relationship can be maintained in 2020 if you follow all the rules listed above. “Do not look at the past, it will not come back. Live in the now and build the future with passion.” What helps her a lot is knowing how to balance her family life, her professional life and that with her husband. For her, the most important thing is to give oneself the chance to live a good life without regrets. Above all, do not forget the important values of life. “Life is a long river... The sweetest is love. The hardest is separation. The most painful is goodbye and the most beautiful is being reunited.”

LOVE IS LOVE IINTERVIEW WITH DR. HANSINEE BEDACEE & PRESHANT VARJANGBHAY Professional in the fields of communication and Higher education, Dr. Aansa Bedacee, also known as Hansinee has earned a reputation as a respected leader in the field of foreign organisations. This issue, highly focused on the month of love – Valentine’s day. Dr. Aansa Bedacee, also known as Hansinee is a professional in the fields of communication and higher education. She spent much of her career working with a number of local and foreign organizations. On a personal level, Hansinee is a cheerful person by nature and totally believes in love and romance. Besides this, she is also involved in modelling and enjoys this environment. At 18, Hansinee is spotted at university by a modelling agent and is approached to do three television commercials for the Life Insurance Corporation of India. “I was thrilled with the offer and was eager to try new things. So, I immediately accepted and today I don’t regret my choice. I love the world of fashion and I love being part of it,” she relates. She remembers her first steps into modelling. She started shooting for TV commercials which was a fully brand-new experience, especially as she had no experience as a model. I had the opportunity to learn a lot about professional make-up, acting and lip-sync. It was both fun and rewarding. A so-called typical day for the model is quite a basic one. Hansinee is however, not a full-time model. She gets involved in shootings according to her availability. “When I go to a casting or get a contract, I first need to understand the client’s requirements and expectations and how the product is to be advertised,” she explains. Her day inevitably starts with taking care of herself to give the best of herself at work. We got it. Self-care is a major thing for the lady. “When I wake up, I usually drink at least 1 or 2 glasses of water on an empty stomach. If I have time, I practice yoga. Then I eat my breakfast, which usually consists of two or three pieces of fruit with cereal. My breakfast is followed by my skin care ritual and then I get ready to shine,” says Hansinee with an amazing smile. As many of us may know, modelling is an environment which can bring many people towards a change. For our lady, modelling inevitably makes you more aware of your appearance, image, body postures and style, and I am no exception. However, modelling is not necessarily limited to external appearance. It helps you develop your social and professional skills, as well as learn the rules of etiquette. “Modelling has allowed me to use the skills I have learned in order to be more effective in the area of communication,” she confesse Hansinee remembers her very first steps in modelling as if they happened yesterday. Unfortunately, due to her busy life, Hansinee does more photo shoots than fashion shows. Her time is quite limited. One of the best memories the lady shares with us is when she walked on the ramp to Miss World Mauritius. She felt like the whole experience was absolutely unrealistic. “A show like that one has a major impact on you. You can only gain in elegance and confidence,”. If a lot of models do have a muse or an icon, Hansinee is not one of theirs. She states that she appreciates and admires a number of elegant and stylish women and does not have a particular muse or icon. “Any woman with a nice style can be a source of inspiration for me. However, I like to keep my individuality,” she admits.

He who says February also says Valentine’s day! We tried to play the little weasel and tried to enquire about our super lady’s Valentine’s day. “If I tell you now, it won’t be a surprise. It can only be revealed after Valentine’s Day,” she says. Ouch! FAIL! So, we tried to know more about how she met her sweetheart. Ouf! She accepts the question! “That’s funny. I have an apartment in Floreal, 5 minutes’ walk from Preshant and yet we have never met. The first time we met was at a ceremony at my best friend’s house.” It was an unexpected and instantaneous connection for the lovebirds. It was deeper than “love at first sight” and far beyond beauty. Yes, yes Newstylers! Such things do happen! They both felt a strong bond, as if they had known each other forever. They finally decided to meet, talked and have never been far from each other since that day. Love just happened to them! Suddenly and beautifully! It happened more than two years ago. “We are simply genuinely happy that it happened!” The best memory that the lovers have together was her birthday where they went away for the weekend for a romantic getaway. Hansinee describes this escapade as a fairy tale and after a weekend of “heart fusion”, the two went back home. “As soon as I opened the door, I saw roses, flower petals on the floor, candles lit, heart-shaped balloons floating on the ceiling. I was surprised to see how Preshant managed to do all this in our absence. My heart was still swooning when Preshant got down on his left knee, held a diamond ring in my hand and made me his proposal. It was fabulous, far beyond my expectations. To this day, it remains one of our favourite memories,” she relates, eyes filled with stars. However, we are all aware that even the “perfect” couples do sometimes fight. Hansinee is categorical to this question. Quite a complex question for our lady when being asked to recall her biggest fight with her lover. “We do have little arguments sometimes. But if that happens, it’s usually because of a difference of opinion,” she says. However, what is important according to her is how to handle such situations. “Fighting can be beneficial in a couple because, with the right approach, it can help lovers to grow together better. We can say that over time, our love grows stronger and we believe that the healthy way of dealing with disagreements helps to strengthen our relationship,” she explains. The most precious thing and the key to success for a couple is nothing else but love. If true love is being found, one is definitely a lucky one. “You should never take it for granted. You must appreciate and cherish it every day. If you have the following ingredients in your relationship, it is easy to be happy as a couple,” she points out firmly. It is not difficult to maintain a relationship if both partners are sincere and committed according to Hansinee. The effort must come from both lovers to establish and maintain a healthy, happy and loving bond. With love and shared values, every relationship can be easily maintained. Plans together, they do have a whole lot! In fact, planning their future together is a joy for the couple. They maintain that they are relatively on the same page when it comes to goals as a couple. Just like most couples who are dating, they intend to settle down and start a family. Hence, our lovers are adapting their career paths to best fit their priorities and lifestyle. “Although I work with a number of foreign companies, we plan to stay in Mauritius. We both come from very loving and supportive families and we want to stay close to our loved ones,” she confesses. To conclude, Hansinee will quote from the book “Cité de la joie”, written by Dominique Lapierre: “Love with all your strength! Such love can only bring positivity in the couple’s relationship and in life in general,”

AGNIESZKA KOZIARSKA MARTINACHE

FITNESS AND WELLNESS LOVER We met Agnieszka accidentally, but we know it was for a reason. Agnieszka is a great lover of fitness and wellness and has a passion of active lifestyle. She believes in healthy movement and its advantages for both physical and mental health. Her goal is to promote healthy physical activity among people. So, Newstyle wanted to introduce Agnieszka not only as a guest for this interview but also as a specialist who will advise you personally or through the upcoming articles. A PASSION, A JOB, A PLEASURE, A LIFESTYLE This is our first interview for the purpose of getting acquainted and obtaining more information about activities, motivation and how to achieve our workout goals. Agnieszka Koziarska Martinache is a master of aerial Pilates, fitness and aerial yoga instructor, teacher trainer, personal trainer and advanced mat Pilates instructor. With 20 years of experience in the field of fitness and wellness in Europe and the United States, she opened and managed her own fitness and aerial yoga studios. Also, one of the founders of MindBodyAgnieszka, her own innovative teaching program promotes her teaching method, based on practical experience and lifelong study. Polish and French, she decided to move from Las Vegas to Mauritius, where she has been training clients and instructors for the past five years. For the lady, wellness is her passion, her job, her pleasure and her lifestyle. “I am a certified level 3 instructor, I teach Aerial Pilates, Aerial Yoga, Aerial Suspension Fitness, Aerial Bar, Aerial Yin Yoga and Aerial Restorative Yoga, all in hammocks. I also certify the instructors of these techniques,” she explains. WHEN HAPPINESS IS FINDING WINGS… Aerial hammock classes are an unforgettable experience, for our teacher where gravity is tested in a fun way. These techniques are accessible to all ages and fitness levels and are very welcoming for beginners. No previous experience is necessary to participate in the course. It is very easy to learn if you train with a good teacher. “I invite you to try the aerial course with me, so that you can experience this amazing technique for yourself. If you are willing to try, I will be happy to show you my way of playing with gravity,” says Agnieszka with such a beautiful smile. The aerial world is her biggest passion. She is also the promoter of Pilates. For instance, Agnieszka believes that by combining these 2 disciplines, we can stay in great shape and keep the mind and body in balance and harmony. For fun, she practices all kinds of sports. “I like to try new disciplines and challenge my fitness habits.” Aerial Pilates is an extraordinary new extension of the Pilates technique that allows you to practice classic and contemporary Pilates in the hammock. This suspension training program uses the hammock as a unique apparatus to replace all other conventional apparatus (Reformer, Cadillac, Ladder Barrel etc.). In addition, you can find traditional Pilates exercises on mats that have been adapted to the hammock. As well as exercises that allow for effortless decompression and alignment of the spine. This class takes trunk strengthening and targeted muscle conditioning to new heights.

Agnieszka has found herself fully involved in sports since a young age. Sport has become an important part of her life at the age of 7. She enrolled in a sports school in her hometown in Poland, which included an intensive sports programme. For the next 8 years Agnieszka participated in long jump and running competitions, representing her school and her state. “At the age of 15, I had to make a choice between becoming a professional athlete or carrying on with her my studies. With the amount of training and dedication required to succeed as an athlete, it was impossible to do both. It was time for me to step back from my demanding schedule and take sport to another level,” Agnieszka had a snowboarding accident at University that damaged her lumbar spine and she suffered from intervertebral disc degeneration. During the therapy, one of her doctors suggested Pilates as a form of rehabilitation. She attended the classes and directly noticed the result of healing through exercise, which was a process of rebuilding and strengthening the muscles. “Thanks to Pilates, I was not only able to heal my back and avoid surgery, but also to rebalance my body after old injuries. I have become a great Pilates practitioner and advocate. I enrolled in an intensive Pilates teacher training course and participated in all levels up to the Master’s degree. In 2013, I took my first aerial hammock class and immediately felt in love with silk. Since that time I have been in a hammock every day, I have taken numerous training and certification courses in aerial technique, I have designed my own training method and I teach instructors the safe way to use the hammock for fitness and well-being,” she explains. MORE THAN JUST A SIMPLE PASSION… Agnieszka’s typical days can be very different depending on her work. She has a lot of private consultations and teacher certifications. When Agnieszka travels to train instructors, there are many hours of training per day, but she enjoys it very much. Visiting different countries and studios is always a rewarding experience for her. “I enjoy meeting new people and discovering new places. When I’m not travelling, I teach clients and I’m a consultant for companies, resorts and wellness businesses. However, I always try to start a day with a little wellness treat for me, it can be meditation, stretching, yoga, Pilates or energy balancing sessions, depending on my mood, to connect with myself, to prepare my mind and body for a day,” she confesses. Teaching is her life and she takes it very seriously. What she likes is the precision in teaching, the variety of exercises, the challenges and the professionalism. She is very demanding when it comes to training instructors. She makes them work and study a lot, but at the end of the certification, they become very competent trainers. Agnieszka simply believes in hard work and discipline. The customers, their joy, happiness, transformation, metamorphosis, both physically and mentally are her greatest sources of motivation. Our lady is convinced that fitness and wellness are amazing disciplines when you have a good teacher or mentor. “Be picky! Look for professional instructors, especially for aerials,” She explains that Aerial courses can be very dangerous if instructors are not properly certified. “Don’t be afraid to ask the instructor where he or she trained, what his or her background is, and if he or she has any certifications,” she says. Her plans for the future? To simply be happy!
