INTERVIEW WITH
KAMLA RUNGASAMY
ABSOLUTE BEAUTY
Around one week after the final Night as first week I Born and raised in a modest family, Kamla dreamed about what she wanted to become and thought it would always remain a dream. However, the conservative culture of Mauritius prevented her from expressing such dreams, as she knew that her family would never have allowed her to progress in this field, as in those days a woman had to get married, take care of her family and that was it. The only chance Kamla had to express herself was at weddings or family gatherings. At the age of 15, Kamla was the one helping everyone get ready by doing their hair and make-up. Fortunately, after her wedding, her partner encouraged her to pursue her passion and live her dreams. That is when Kamla started to enroll in hair and make-up classes, both locally and internationally. Finally, 22 years ago, after acquiring enough skills, she launched her brand - Absolute Beauty. It has not been an easy path, but Kamla has met some extraordinary people along the way, without whom she would not be where she is today. “My ultimate goal now is to keep on providing my customers with quality services such as hairstyling, nail art, bridal makeup and share my knowledge through the hairstyling and makeup courses I took in my school.

INTERVIEW WITH
SHAMEER ABDUL RAMAN His name is Shameer Abdul Raman and is 46 years old. 30 years and counting...here is how long he is into Modelling. His future plan? Make all people of his age believe that they all have equal opportunities if they work for them. Nearly 47 years old, Shameer is still modelling among youngsters who are less than half of his age. Encounter... The Modelling world has encounter lots of changes. Young people now are more ready to take up this professional area, and many more are very successfully doing it. How to become a model? According to Shameer, anyone can become a model. It all depends on what one wants to do- be it catwalk, billboards or print magazines. All they need to have is the right attitude and elegance. Ever since childhood, Shameer knew that he was different. While other kids of his age dreamt about becoming lawyers, doctors or engineers, all he wanted to become was an artist and be on a stage. This is how he always perceived himself. Moreover, the supermodel mentions that he knew his plans have always been to help other people, who somehow, lacked self-confidence to become the best version of themselves and embrace who they were. “Someone saw my potential and polished me to become a diamond, the light of which only shines to show others their way to a glorious victory,” says Shameer. For instance, for Shameer to feel like he is successful, he needs to touch people’s heart with kindness and influence their lives by being an example even during adversities. Despite his age, Shameer feels like he has just begun and is not even halfway there. “I lost my father when I was 19. A real role model for me because he worked tirelessly and selflessly in order to be able to help those around him.
He had a strong character and gave himself at 100% in his work. He left this world with big shoes for me to fill in.” he relates. Shameer’s modelling career started at 16 years old after he completed his studies at St. Joseph College in Curepipe. He has been trained at three renowned modelling schools and after that, he signed with Hugo Boss and Armand Basi in Spain. Following that, he appeared on Match TV, on French National TV for a special show “The Life of a Male model”. Man of the year 2019, super achiever in fashion and entertainment, he received that title by the hands of Lady Jugnauth in 2019. A basket filled with success which also brought him to collaborate with international brands like Diwan Saheb of India and local ones like UBP, Phoenix beer, Lucozade etc. Perseverance, selfless service can bring in a good night’s sleep according to Shameer. “I went through many elements of life and work experiences. I decided to use these to help those in need of self-confidence and positive vibes. Not just to face life but also to excel in it,” he says. For Shameer, so far, being a model was a great experience. Not only that, but also a trainer, a grooming specialist, a choreographer and motivator. He always wished to add more adventures to his basket. Hence, when Beauty contests organizers send invitation, it is with great enthusiasm that he accepts to be part of it. His eye for details and talent always bring out the best in any circumstance. For the handsome model, success for him relates to seeing his mother smile whenever he achieves something great. A way to give her hope for a better tomorrow. “I am honored to see how I managed to touch so many lives through all these experiences. This is definitely priceless for me.”

ROSHAN CRASTA
REIKI MASTER & HEALER

INTERVIEW WITH
ROSHAN CRASTA, Reiki Master & Healer
This Pre-Summer, we had the chance to get an exclusive meeting with Roshan Crasta. This wonderful Reiki master created an atmosphere full of love, learning and good vibes – We were simply wrapped up warmly in this Reiki energy. Here you will find out more about Roshan, his work with Reiki and how we – through creating peace in ourselves – can help the collective healing of the world. To support this, Roshan has created a wonderful ‘Grateful Heart Meditation’ especially for you. Follow us... Hi Roshan, thank you so much for taking the time for this interview. It is such a pleasure! Please tell us a bit more about yourself and your work with Reiki. Hello, thank you for giving me this opportunity to share a little bit of my world with you. I am an Usui and Holy Fire III Karuna Reiki Master and Teacher, Ascension Master and an Atlantean Healer. These are the 3 modalities that I work with and I can combine them and work with them seamlessly when required. At “Be A Roshan”, we provide Reiki sessions for individuals and teach Reiki. We also conduct meditation events and Atlantean healing events. One of the projects that we are currently working on is Ascension Mastery for individuals, which is to empower people to live in the moment, freely and manage their energies on a daily basis, without much help from a Guru or teacher. What exactly is Reiki for you? Reiki is mainly a healing therapy, but for me it is a path to help heal humanity. We are all troubled by the stresses of life and work etc. and Reiki is a powerful healing therapy to help people relieve their stresses and overcome challenges in their lives. Most people believe Reiki to be mainly a stress relieving therapy. However, as a Reiki Master, I have been able to heal people suffering with emotional and psychological trauma like grief, chronic depression and anxiety just to name a few. A lot of deep rooted trauma can be released during a Reiki session and 104
it is an amazing feeling when after decades of suffering the individual is finally able to understand what has been causing them pain and when healed they experience relief. To be finally free of this pain that they have been carrying. So Reiki for me is a powerful healing therapy. One of my goals is to empower as many people as I can to heal with the power of Reiki. Do you also consider yourself as an artist? If so, why? Well, I have been a photographer for more than 20 years in Kuwait and worked with some famous people as well and I consider myself an artist for being able to create beautiful images. Being a Reiki Master is also being an artist where we see the beauty of the aura, energies and so much more around us. It is an art to be able to manage oneself and to be able to live in the now. Also, healing has always been an art form. For thousands of years, the shamans, the yogis and medicine men, have been cultivating this art of healing, whether it was working with energies or working with herbs or crystals etc. It is an art form by itself as it requires a lot of patience and tact to create this healing effect in an individual. One of the 5 Reiki principles is BE GRATEFUL. How do you personally live by this principle (and the others)? Firstly, I would like to say that I am absolutely grateful to be in this paradise island of Mauritius. I am grateful for everything I have in my life. It is the one thing that multiplies the good thoughts you put out into the Universe and then returns to you. The more gratitude you give out into the Universe, the more blessings you receive. I give gratitude daily for all I have been blessed with. It does not take much to be thankful for the little things you may have, so be grateful always. The other principles are to not be angry, to not worry etc. Although these are simple, they can be very challenging as you go through the day to day stresses of life. Many times, we forget to not worry or be angry etc. That is the path of the Reiki Master - to allow Reiki to Master them, so they can live by these principles. The path to becoming a Reiki Master is a path of raised awareness and consciousness so, in a sense, Reiki teaches us or guides us to be more aware
of our thoughts and emotions. If you are in flow with Reiki, it can help you master the 5 principles and live them with more ease. With Reiki, we connect to the universal energy and we can connect with each other and all there is. Do you believe the loving energy can bring healing to this world and its inhabitants? Yes, it is true that with Reiki, we connect with Universal energy. This is the life energy that is in abundance all around us and in the universe. Learning Reiki is also a path to Enlightenment. If an individual decides to learn Reiki, they are embarking on a journey to heal themselves and heal others, but also to be Enlightened. When you channel Reiki, you channel Love and Light but you also channel information - information that can help you heal yourself and others. I strongly believe that we live in a world that is hurting. Everyone has experienced trauma at some point in their lives and what we see around us with the injustices around the world is projections of their own trauma on others. In that sense, humanity needs healing. If we have a world where every individual can master their thoughts and emotions with a higher level of awareness and consciousness, I believe we can live in harmony with everyone and everything around us. I know it seems far-fetched, but as I stated before, one of my goals is to empower as many people as possible with the healing power of Reiki. It’s not the only solution, but I strongly believe Love is the cure to healing humanity. What other practices do you have to look after your wellbeing and happiness? Breathing is the most important practice that I do to vibrate at a higher frequency. It’s important to vibrate at a higher frequency so you can spread love, joy, happiness and gratitude around you. Breathing consciously helps you raise your level of Chi or Ki within your body. It helps you understand your body and your emotions better. So, I would say to everyone out there, to take at least 5 minutes a day to do breathing exercise. The second practice would be to meditate. In the fast-paced life that we are currently living, we need to be able to ground ourselves from
time to time to center our minds. We also have more information to process today than we did a 100 years ago, with the onset of the information age. All of this adds up to the stress we have and has an impact on our mind and many people suffer from chronic anxiety, insomnia and depression etc. In my life, meditation has helped me focus. It has helped me take control of my mind so I can think clearly without needless thoughts distracting me at work. I have had my own challenges with depression, and meditation has helped in a big way along with Reiki to steer clear of negative thought patterns that prevent me from living happy and free. I recommend everyone try spending at least 5 minutes, twice a day in meditation to help calm the mind. In the morning, to start your day with a clear mind and in the evening, to clear the mind and sleep peacefully. How do you think featuring in a magazine like Newstyle can help you? Firstly, I want to thank Newstyle for featuring me in the issue. It is an honor to be presented here. Yes, I think being featured here will help spread awareness about our emotional and mental health. I believe there are a lot more people today who are keen on understanding energy work, learning about yoga, meditation and spirituality and this feature, I believe will bring more awareness about these subjects. Any message for the readers? I see that there are many centers out here for yoga, meditation and many other practices. I would ask the readers to try them out if they have not already. Breath work and meditation are important practices that you can do yourself to live a happy life. If you do wish to heal yourself and serve humanity through healing, do join our school to learn Reiki and heal yourself, your home and your planet. Last but not least, what are you grateful for? Firstly, I am grateful to the Universe for bringing me to Mauritius to serve the people here. My gratitude also goes out to the people of this land for their warmth, kindness and support. Finally, my gratitude goes out to my parents, my wife and her family for their love and support.
