Carolyn Harding Jazz Vocalist
Carolyn Harding, the Diva of "House Music" brings her jazz style to Zebs in NYC for a very special evening of song and dance featuring the tap sensation Calvin Booker. Carolyn presents show stopping vocals with an entertainers flair. She is originally from the New York area, but has travelled extensively in Europe, the Carribean, and much of the world.
Her early career brought her into the Disney fold, where she developed her performance abilities with attention to craft and discipline. That early experience prepared her for a career spanning 20 years in House Music where she has recorded extensively. Those years produced many dance recording hits that have stood the test of time and are still being marketed worldwide.
While raising her family in New York's Long Island, Ms. Harding sang for the best music industry professionals. With a sharp eye on business, Ms. Harding was associated with The Hank Lane Orchestra's, Steven Scott Orchestra's, Jerry Kravats, Starlight Orchestra's, Ken James, Dance Jock and many others.
In 2010, while on the road touring in a production of Duke Ellington's "Sophistcated Ladies", Carolyn met the very talented Tap Sensation, Calvin Booker. With a strong love for house music, a flare for DJ'ing and a fresh young vibe to contribute, Calvin was invited to join the team and has been traveling and performing with Carolyn making stops in Atlanta, Miami, Chicago, and Detroit. Calvin Booker is a dancer and DJ. Trained at Restoration Dance Theater under the direction of Marie Brooks, where he studied African Dance, Ballet, Capoeira and Tap with Traci Mann. At age 7, Calvin was a founding member of "The Young Hoofer's". He is a two
time winner of "Showtime At The Apollo", has had a national TV commercial for "Chile's Bar and Grill" aired and is listed as number 8 among Dance Magazines: "Top 25 To Watch."
Harding and Booker joined forces in the studio recently with several producers including Detroit’s Piranha Head and Mike Clark and up and coming South African producer Dj Mtshpang… with a list of hot DJ/Producers in the cue. Calvin booker is a star in his own right, and the Harding/Booker collaboration combines the jazz sensibility with the fresh new energy that tap dance naturally provides.
Harding and Booker have an internet radio show called "BOOCHIES BASEMENT RADIO SHOW" since 2008 that airs Tuesdays 3pm to 5pm EST. Tune in to www.insoulwetrust.com with Calvin (C Boogie) on the decks. As strong believers in community outreach, Ms. Harding and Mr. Booker joined efforts to produce the "Safe Routes To School" program with the Hempstead Community Development Agency. The program produces exciting and engaging shows educating children about safety. In addition, they have founded the A.I.M. (Arts in Me) Workshop sharing their talents with the community instructing in dance, voice, and music theory.
The Harding/Booker collaboration produces shows under the auspices of The Big Band and Tap Preservation Society that educates and empowers both young and old. This is the main base for A.I.M. and now the booking source for Ms. Harding as well as other musicians and dancers. BBTPS provides a platform to engage and encourage young people to embrace jazz musical heritage while entertaining seniors with the music they so love. Also, like Carolyn Harding Music, BBTPS is providing the full range of entertainment for events of every kind.
In 1996, Calvin also joined ‘Creative Outlet: Dance Theater of Brooklyn’, under the direction of Jamel Gaines, Kevin Joseph, and Lakai Worrel. There he trained extensively in Ballet, Modern, and African dance under the tutelage of Whilemina Taylor and Shirley BlackBrown-Coward, among other greats. With this company, Calvin has performed at many places in New York City, domestically and abroad including London, Italy (Spoleto, and Rome), and St. Maarten W.I. He has danced for the likes of Michael Jackson, Katherine Dunham, the ambassador of Benin among others.
As a tap soloist, Calvin has performed at the Blue Note, the Village Underground, SOB’s and numerous clubs throughout the city alongside notable musicians such as Bilal, Wunmi, Lady Alma, and Carolyn Harding, contributing his skills and energy in a continued effort to recognize tap as a live instrument. Carolyn has shared the stage with Little Richard, Phyllis Diller, Thelma Houston, Shirley Bassey and The Shirelles among many others.
