Rhode Island Michael Ptaszek rescued a neighboring family from a three floor multi-family home when it caught on fire, as reported by a local NBC affiliate.
The reported stated that while there were no serious injurious incurred from the fire, the family of Scott Tucker was facing real danger and was seriously at risk. When he noticed the fire, Ptaszek entered the burning building to alert the occupants of the danger and help them escape the flames. Thanks to the warning from Ptaszek, the families inside were able to avoid becoming victims of injury or death from the fire.
A statement from the fire department chief indicated that when the fire trucks arrived residents were jumping out of the building. The fire company was successful in assisting everyone inside with evacuating the building safely.
Scott Tucker and his family reside on the first floor of the building. Tucker stated that he believes that his neighbor Michael Ptaszek is responsible for saving his family and he expressed gratitude for Ptaszek's brave actions.
According to the recent report, eighteen people lost their home because of the fire, but received temporary housing, food and clothing from the American Red Cross.
