THU 4 TO SAT 27 SEPTEMBER THE NEW WOLSEY THEATRE presents

Midsummer Songs By / Peter Rowe and Ben Goddard

Twenty-five years ago a group of friends celebrated the end of their university careers with a wild week in a barn half-way up a mountain in West Wales. A week of madness, mayhem and music, recorded on a C90 cassette and buried in a biscuit tin at the top of a hill with a pledge – “Wherever we are in twenty-five years’ time we’ll come back here on Midsummer’s Eve and create the B side”. Now we see those old friends return, a little rounder, a bit more rueful but with their passion for life, love and music still smouldering inside. As the biscuit tin gives up its secrets, old passions catch fire, past resentments return and the songs begin to fly. Will this reunion change their lives? Will the album ever be finished? And what on earth can they play that cassette on? Written especially for a company of multi-skilled actor-musicians in the New Wolsey house style, this brand new musical is a celebration of friendship, survival and the power of song. THU 2 OCTOBER EUROPEAN ARTS COMPANY presents

THE TRIALS OF OSCAR WILDE European Arts Company returns with a dramatisation of the libel and criminal trials of Oscar Wilde at the Old Bailey in 1895. Thursday 14 February 1895 was the triumphant opening night of The Importance of Being Earnest and the zenith of Wilde’s career. Less than 100 days later, he found himself a common prisoner sentenced to two years hard labour. So what happened during the trials and what did Wilde say? Was he persecuted or the author of his own downfall? Using the original words spoken in court, we can feel what it was like to be in the company of a flawed genius - as this less than ideal husband was suddenly reduced to a man of no importance. TUE 11 TO SAT 15 NOVEMBER A SHEFFIELD THEATRES PRODUCTION

A brand new musical From the writer of Our House and Neville’s Island Words and music by / Tim

Firth

‘This is my family.’ That was the competition. All Nicky had to do was describe her family and she could win a dream holiday. Ok, so she lied through her teeth and made them all sound perfect, but who cares!? She won! She could take them to Rio! To Florida! Acapulco! Instead, fourteen year-old Nicky Perry chooses pretty much the last holiday her family were expecting… This fast-moving, laugh-out-loud and hugely moving new musical from the writer of Calendar Girls goes to the heart of the question: what exactly is the point of family in the modern age?

ACCESS Information CAPTIONED PERFORMANCE Captioning converts the spoken word into text that provides people with hearing loss access to live performance. In captioning, the words appear on a screen at the same time as they are sung or spoken. Captions also include sound effects and offstage noises.

AUDIO DESCRIBED PERFORMANCE Audio Described performances give you a live commentary about the action happening on stage through a pair of small headphones. To help you immerse yourself in the show as much as possible we offer touch tours before each audio described performance enabling you to explore the stage and get a feel of the set and costumes before the performance starts.

BRITISH SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETED BSL Interpreted performances feature an on-stage interpreter who interprets spoken English into sign language.

RELAXED PERFORMANCE A Relaxed Performance is one which has been carefully adjusted to deliver a more informal relaxed approach to theatre. For example, changes are made to sound and lighting to eliminate surprises and soften their impact. We have introduced relaxed performances as an extra option for audiences and to remove barriers to access. It’s about making the theatre welcoming and inclusive for all. Please contact the Ticket Sales Team on 01473 295900 or email tickets@wolseytheatre.co.uk if you have any access requirements or require additional information.

Infra Red Hearing Enhancement System

There is an Infra Red Hearing System in the main auditorium for customers who need hearing enhancement. This replaces the traditional 'loop' that you might come to expect. You will need a headset to take advantage of the system. Headsets can be collected from the Ticket Desk for a returnable deposit of £10.00. You can either choose an in-ear headset that acts as headphones or a transmitter that enables your hearing aid to pick up a personally created loop by switching your hearing aid to 'T'.

Wheelchair access

Row C and Row K are accessible without encountering any steps. There are four spaces available for wheelchair users in the auditorium, two in Row C and two in Row K. See page 20 where accessible seating is indicated in yellow. The Studio is accessible from the street without encountering any steps. The auditorium is on the first floor and a passenger lift is available.
