A SALISBURY PLAYHOUSE, NEW WOLSEY THEATRE IPSWICH AND QUEEN’S THEATRE HORNCHURCH PRODUCTION
WORST WEDDING EVER BY CHRIS CHIBNALL
Rachel and Scott are getting married. They are also buying a house together. But when the house price goes up, their plans for a dream wedding may have to be downsized. Rachel’s mother, however, has other ideas. What if the family could join forces and make it a wedding to be proud of? With a marquee in the back garden, the pub band and two fully-functioning portable loos, surely the day will pass without a hitch? This laugh-out-loud comedy about preparations for a family wedding was a huge hit when it premiered at Salisbury Playhouse in 2014. Now you have a chance to enjoy one of the biggest new comedies in years. Chris Chibnall is the creator of ITV’s Broadchurch and from 2018 will be Head Writer and Executive Producer of BBC TV’s Doctor Who.

NORTHANGER ABBEY A delightful stage version of Jane Austen’s earliest novel Catherine Morland loves a good novel and the more ‘horrid’ it is the better. At 17, she is taken by her aunt to Bath where she encounters the social whirl denied her at home. When Catherine accepts an invitation to the Tilney’s country seat at Northanger Abbey, lurid images from her favourite gothic novel The Mysteries of Udolpho threaten to overwhelm her. However, all misunderstandings are eventually resolved and, as in all the best Jane Austen novels, the young heroine finally gets her man… Adapted by acclaimed Austen specialist Tim Luscombe, whose Mansfield Park was also produced and toured by the Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds. SHOWSTOPPER! THE IMPROVISED MUSICAL
The satirical songs of Tom Lehrer have delighted and horrified audiences for decades, both through his own rare, acerbic performances and in the revue format of the West End and New York hit show Tomfoolery. Following sell-out London shows, Adam Kay sets out on his debut UK tour with his new take on Lehrer’s songbook, with everything from pigeon poisoning to masochistic tango via nuclear oblivion being revisited from the contemporary perspective of this award-winning performer.
Spontaneous award winning musical comedy at its finest - direct from the West End and returning to Ipswich for the third year running by popular demand! With nine years as an Edinburgh Fringe must-see, a BBC Radio 4 series, a critically acclaimed West End run AND an Olivier Award to their name, this incredible comedy troupe create a brand-new musical from scratch at each performance as audience suggestions are transformed on the spot into all-singing, all-dancing production with unpredictable and hilarious results. So whether you fancy Sondheim on a ski lift or Cole Porter in Poundland - you suggest it and the Showstoppers will sing it!

JONNY & THE BAPTISTS: EAT THE POOR
Robyn Bennett, the American turned Parisian, presents her new show accompanied by her band, Bang Bang. Jazz, rock, swing, soul and funk come together for a powerful shot of musical energy! Irresistible rhythms, melodies that stay in your head and explosive horns are all in there.
A riotously funny epic about friendship, inequality and betrayal from the multiaward-nominated musical comedians. From frontman Jonny Donahoe, co-writer of international hit Every Brilliant Thing. Setting out to explore the gap between rich and poor, Jonny & the Baptists’ lives turn upside down when Jonny betrays Paddy for financial gain. As Jonny enjoys the highlife with Andrew Lloyd Webber and Jerry Hall, Paddy falls into homelessness and despair. Previous shows at the New Wolsey Theatre have included the STOP UKIP Tour, Rock the Vote and The End is Nigh.
“ A fresh, high voltage concert, a superb show”
“ Wickedly amusing.”

TUE 18 to SAT 29 APR A NEW WOLSEY YOUNG COMPANY PRODUCTION
HOW TO DISAPPEAR COMPLETELY AND NEVER BE FOUND BY FIN KENNEDY / DIRECTED BY ROB SALMON
“What makes you who you are? A name? An address? A random collection of experiences, a few memories? You are who you can prove you are. You are what people think. And that’s the easiest thing in the world to change.” When a young executive reaches breaking point and decides to disappear, he pays a visit to a master of the craft in a seafront fortune teller’s in Southend. Haunted by visitations from a pathologist who swears he is already lying flat out on her slab, he begins to re-live the nightmarish final hours that see his body retrieved from the Thames, stripped of everything that made him who he was. This extraordinary play follows one man’s desperate attempts to buck the system, and asks what really makes us who we are in the 21st century. TUE

3 STORIES FROM RADIO 4
A loophole in the Postal Services Act says you can open other people’s mail under certain circumstances. This is that certain circumstance… The multi award-winning duo follow up their smash-hit show Women’s Hour. With songs, politics, dodgy landlords and detective work, this national housing crisis gets deeply personal in a hilarious and heartbreaking’ (Sunday Times) show for Generation Rent.
John Osborne has written and performed six half hour storytelling shows for Radio 4. They are funny, heartwarming and a masterclass in how to keep an audience captivated. For the next few months he’s going to be travelling around with a stage show where he tells three of these stories as well as performing new material he is developing for Radio 4. The shows were all broadcast between 2011 and 2015.
“ A kind of twenty-first-century Withnail & I.”

VENTOUX Returning after their Suitcase Prize entry in PULSE Festival 2015, Ventoux is the story of Lance Armstrong and Marco Pantani on the fearsome Mont Ventoux in the 2000 Tour de France. Their rivalry is re-staged by 2Magpies Theatre using breathtaking video accompaniment and a pair of road bikes, asking the question – how far will we go to succeed?

AUDIO DESCRIBED PERFORMANCES
Audio Description captures the visual elements of a performance that a blind or partially sighted person might otherwise miss and describes them in clear, vivid language through a pair of headphones Free touch tours take place an hour before the performance.
BRITISH SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETED
BSL interpreted performances feature a professional interpreter that translates spoken English into British Sign Language.
CAPTIONED PERFORMANCES
Theatre captions are similar to television subtitles and give deaf, deafened or hard of hearing audiences access to live performance.
WHEELCHAIR USER ACCESS
There are 6 wheelchair user accessible spaces in the New Wolsey Auditorium, 4 in row C and 2 in row K (see p24). The studio auditorium has 2 wheelchair user accessible spaces with a small passenger lift to the auditorium. The HEG is wheelchair user accessible also.

RELAXED PERFORMANCES
Relaxed performances are carefully adjusted to deliver a more informal relaxed approach to theatre. For example, changes are made to sound and lighting to eliminate surprises and soften the impact. We have experienced their suitability for audiences with learning, physical or sensory disabilities and people living with mental health conditions, Dementia and their families. Our Bradbury Platform can be installed; increasing our wheelchair user accessible spaces up to 16!
DEMENTIA FRIENDLY All staff members are Dementia Friends and we are working towards being a Dementia Friendly Venue. Dementia Friendly performances include a reminiscence and familiarisation talk/tour with supporting visual aids. Relaxed Performances may also be suitable for people living with Dementia.
