Lifeguard Training and Assessments at Level 2

Lifeguard Training and Assessments at Level 2 For the safety of customers within facilities, it is important that our lifeguards are properly assessed and qualified and undergo regular training. There are some aspects of lifeguard training and assessment which require staff to work within close proximity to each other (ie: in water spinals, contact tows). Currently, public health measures at Level 2 state 1m physical distancing between people not known to each other and contact tracing. https://covid19.govt.nz/alert-system/alert-level-2/#controls-at-alert-level-2 As a staff are known to each other and a record is kept of who attended, a staff training session can be considered a group/gathering and the same public health measures apply. Details of all attending the training session must be recorded and kept. No social distancing is required within the group, but the group as a whole, must keep 1m apart from other groups and individuals. During training sessions hygiene protocols need to be implemented, particularly around the use of shared equipment. PPE should be provided if necessary. There may be some staff members who are not comfortable with close contact with others at this time. Their views should be respected, and consideration should be given to finding other non-contact ways to involve them in training scenarios. Please note, these guidelines come with the clear understanding that the policies of individual facilities and local health and safety authorities will always be respected.
