the Online ENCOUNTER Learning Program A CHANGE IN PERCEPTION, IS A CHANGE OF ACTION.
An eNCounter with the community of Paraiso (Lima, Peru) This program is designed and implemented by Nexos Comunitarios in collaboration with the Community of Nuevo Amanecer del Paraíso, in San Juan de Lurigancho, Lima.
Celebration of the first online program with the community of Paraiso. The fee helps them to build the fences to protect their houses as they live in an urban mountain, considered as highrisk area.
Paraiso is a community formed by 120 families who began living together since the early 2000s. These families migrated to Lima from their hometowns in the Jungle, Andes, Coast of Peru, in search of better opportunities. Some left because they were escaping the pollution that originated by extractive companies, and others because of the Internal War in the 80s.
An eNCounter with Paraiso, will be a space of mutual learning to grow together.
What the community lacks in public services (such as sanitation and water), and government presence (although they are located only 20 minutes from the Presidential Palace), is made up for by their dedication in improving their community by working together. A space of mutual learning with women and men from Paraiso, will allow all of us to learn about the different realities within Peru, their culture, and their stories around perseverance - the effort and hardwork of having to overcome the challenges of living in the big city of Lima
A view of the district. Besides Paraiso, there are other communities in the area. In total, there are 12,000 inhabitants in this part of the city.
30% of the fees will be delivered in cash to the community to work in communal efforts, such as the construction of the school, and the implementation of their sanitation system.

After more than 10 years of experience on community development and combining it with our International Volunteering Programs and Internships, eNCounter is the latest online learning program from Nexos Comunitarios. The program is designed to be a mutual, learning space between our community partners in Lima, Peru, and citizens around the world. Through this eNCounter we aim to prompt a change in perceptions to act better locally and globally.
WHAT IS THE eNCounter PHILOSOPHY?
Career Development: Gain insight into how global and local issues are interconnected ; Through the scope of Sustainable Development Goals and Inner Development Goals, reflect critically from different perspectives (academic, activist, cultural and field); Immerse yourself in new cultures; Enhance your intercultural skills; Complement the university preparation to work in the research, fieldwork, international relations and NGO world.

We: Are a Peruvian non-profit organization with more than 15 years of experience in promoting knowledge and intercultural exchange through different programs; Have had a positive impact on: 1. The education of people who join our programs; 2. The improved quality of life of our Peruvian community partners through the implementation of projects. Are formed by committed professionals with different backgrounds and expertise.
WHY NEXOS COMUNITARIOS?
In collaboration with our community partners in Paraiso (San Juan de Lurigancho, Lima), we will be offering programs in July and August. Each program has 18 hours of sessions across 3 weeks. If you are unable to attend one or more sessions, you can replay the session within the next week.

WHAT ARE THE PROGRAM DATES AND THEMES?
2 eNCounters with our community partners in Lima: The interactions will include the use of photography and video; 2 Academic/Intellectual/ Professional talks: With Peruvian and overseas professionals from world renowed universities and institutions. 1 Intercultural Skills workshop: With an expert, you will be able to increase your knowledge and learn how to put the in practice in different settings.

2 People Need People sessions: A special gathering to uncover the multiple contexts we live in and find the patterns that connect us; 2 Nexos Comunitarios sessions: on our experience in the field of Intearnational Development and our work in the Andes and Coast of Peru in different areas.

Fee: USD 400. 30% of the fee will be delivered in cash to the Association formed by the community of Paraiso, San Juan de Lurigancho. Currently, the community is dedicating all their efforts on building a stronger community Certificate: At the end of the program, participants will be asked to submit an essay, artistic piece (poem, painting, others) or video about their experience. Those who submit will receive a certificate of participation.
