NEXT Distro Position: Coordinator of Support Services Compensation: $52,000 with flexible 35 hours/week schedule Location: Remote role for someone based in New York State with the option to work from NEXT’s NYC office Overview NEXT Distro “NEXT” is an online and mail-based harm reduction program working to provide resources to people who use drugs that cannot access in-person services. NEXT is a state-waivered syringe services program and also runs an opioid overdose prevention program. Our goal is to support people who use drugs that cannot access in-person harm reduction services. NEXT will be hiring a Coordinator of Support Services to provide assistance to program participants who need support with referrals, care coordination, supportive counseling, and drug user health education such as safer injection training and safety planning. The role will also be responsible for NEXT’s participant-support phone line and may include providing follow-up supply tracking services. This position blends case management, resource building, efficacy/sustainability/strategy evaluation, and administrative responsibilities. It will require a motivated individual who has lived and/or professional experience in navigating social service systems as a person who uses drugs. Responsibilities ● Monitor the NEXT general phone number which is contacted by program participants and community stakeholders, this may include updating addresses, confirming order requests, and providing supportive counseling or crisis services. ● Communicate regularly with participants of NEXT’s syringe access program around their needs and provide direct referral and care coordination services as needed. ● Support participants with accessing requested services including, but not limited to, testing and treatment, mental health care, housing support, crisis intervention, medication for opioid use disorder, and COVID-19 related services. ● Ensure adequate documentation to support future support needed. ● Prepare qualitative and quantitative program reporting for leadership and stakeholders. This includes data entry into the AIDS Institute Reporting System for syringe services and other activities. ● Provide safer injection, wound care, safer sex, and other harm reduction education using email, text, and phone-based communication. ● Keep apprised of public health data related to drug user health needs, develop strategies to address emerging and location-specific health emergencies. Examples include overdose spikes and increases in HCV/HIV transmission. ● As part of a team, develop culturally relevant materials and campaigns specific to participant needs with a focus on drug user health and wellbeing. ● Develop working relationships with stakeholders across the state, i.e. other harm reduction programs, service agencies, housing agencies, policymakers, county health departments, and tribal councils.


Requirements ● Experience working in case management, supportive services, outreach, community mobilizing, or adjacent participant centered services for a minimum of 2 years. Experiencing working in harm reduction is a strong plus. ● Proven track record of working with purpose and integrity while self-directed in a remote work setting. ● Competency in supporting the intersectional and evolving identities of NEXT participants. ● Reliable and trustworthy, ability to effectively communicate verbally and through phone, email, chat, and video. ● Available to take on responsibility for NEXT’s general inquiries phone line during work hours. ● Must have some project management experience including the ability to work independently, prioritize tasks in order of importance, follow through with commitments, ensure proper documentation, and report back to team members. ● If working remotely, must have reliable internet and phone service.
