Consultant Project Opportunity: What is Harm Reduction Visual

PROJECT PROPOSAL PROJECT TITLE: WHAT IS HARM REDUCTION? Format/Medium: Comic, zine, manifesto or other black & white printable medium.

DESCRIPTION NEXT Harm Reduction mails harm reduction supplies to people who use drugs across the country.

Generally, our organization and shipments are the first interaction participants have with harm reduction as a comprehensive concept and philosophy. We send materials that incorporate public health based concepts of harm reduction, such as specifics about safer injection or wound care. In order to further understanding of a harm reduction philosophy we are looking to include an introductory printed guide 'What is Harm Reduction?' printable document to include with NEXT packages.

PRODUCT Visual comic, zine, or manifesto in the English language that can be printed in black & white.

In order for this product to be successful, it will need to meet the following competencies: ● Product will effectively incorporate multiple facets of the harm reduction philosophy including but not limited to countering stigma (including internalized stigma); racism, classism, sexism, ableism and other systems of structural inequality; the war on drugs; capitalism; the prison industrial complex, abolition, and systems of recidivism, etc. ● Product will demystify philosophies of harm reduction and transform it from a concept into a lived practice easily identifiable in participants' lives ● The product will utilize language and/or imagery, explanations, and descriptions that are personally relatable and accessible to our participants who largely do not come from an academic background. Our general standard is that materials should be accessible to a 5th grade reading level.

OTHER DETAILS ● Artist(s)/Author(s) will be credited and linked on all produced materials. ● Project build-out will be supported by the NEXT team through initial, mid production, and final drafting meetings. NEXT requests the core bulk of material be created by the Artist(s)/Author(s), and NEXT will provide support in editing, formatting, and/or graphic design as needed. For example if your project format is text-based, we would provide copy editing feedback and final graphic design layout. ● NEXT requests a document of all text for the purpose of Spanish translation and support with layout in producing a Spanish-language version. We will provide translation -- two final products in English and Spanish will be produced. ● Four week project turnaround is requested. ● Payment upon completion: $400 USD TO APPLY Email concept note/project proposal or mock-up to content@nextdistro.org by April 16th.
