In step 3 we move from a pegboard onto a lacing board. The threads are inserted into the 300mm x 300mm board using the triangular applicators. This develops the muscles in the fingers associated with handwriting. The joined pattern making closely resembles cursive handwriting.

The most recent Education Endowment Foundation reports on improving mathematics had the use of manipulatives and the mathematical modelling as a key recommendation as a driver for improving standards at EYFS, KS1, KS2 and into KS3. Pegs to Count Up is one of the manipulatives that you could use, it will compliment other resources you have in school such as Cuisenaire rods, place value counters etc.

Teaches children how to thread a lace. Develop hand-eye coordination and create pictures by simply pushing the lace into the holes using the applicator. Co-operative play making pictures and designs with other children. The child can copy more complex patterns created by other children or the teacher. Children can develop motor skills and pen control whilst having fun creating pictures. Using the magnetic applicator pen, lift up the metal balls within the pad to create an image onto the surface. The metal balls can then be pushed back down into the pad with either a finger or the side of the magnetic applicator to refresh the canvas. The hexagonal applicator supplied with the board includes a nickel coated, sprung loaded, strong neodymium magnet Images can be generated from either the imagination or can be copied from one of the 20 x work cards included with each MagnePad. The Nexus MagnePad is great for those who are visually impaired as it provides sensory feedback for sound and touch. Braille can also be written onto the board which helps with communication. The metal balls are safely housed with the grid of the pad, ensuring the balls do not fall out. Each board measures 315mm x 255mm.

They are also particulary good for SEN children because it is a calming and engaging activity with plenty of sensory feedback - from the noise the balls make on the surface to the touch of pushing them back down into the pad. The larger MagnePad allows for more elaborate designs and comes with work cards, whilst the smaller MagnePad is ideal for carrying due to its portability.

Writing with chalk helps to develop handwriting due to the resistance on a chalkboard, so we designed the A4 Writing Board to work with our triangular chalks whilst also functioning as a traditional whiteboard for our whiteboard pens on the reverse. The A4 Grid Writing Board has been recently developed to provide a similar option but with a gridded whiteboard side which helps to tighten up writing even more with the additional lines.
