Single Parent Co-working Space

The modular block system seamlessly combines furniture and architecture to create a multifunctional community center for single parents and their children. It addresses dual needs: providing a safe play area for children while parents work nearby and offering a flexible approach to spatial organization.

More than simple dividers, the modular blocks encourage play, learning, and safety. They are adaptable, allowing for reconfiguration to suit various activities, group sizes, and age ranges. Stacked blocks form stadium-style stairs with built-in cubbies, creating tiered seating and workspaces for parents.

The blocks also function as partition walls, shaping play and rest areas for children and connecting to form climbing frames. Additional spaces, including a seminar area and cafe, promote community-building and social interaction. The design prioritizes versatility, engagement, and support, creating a dynamic environment that adapts to its users’ needs.

Pendelton House Museum Renovation

The Pendleton House renovation at the RISD Museum, dedicated to American Decorative Art, addresses two primary challenges.

The first was the rigid layout, which restricted visitor movement and offered only a singular perspective of the artworks. To overcome this, I introduced movable panels that allow for flexible space configurations, supporting diverse exhibitions and alternative circulation paths. These panels also create a “third space” at the museum’s core—an adaptable central area ideal for various activities and after-hours events.

The second challenge was the museum’s adherence to an 1800s American house aesthetic, limiting the design’s potential. To modernize the space while honoring its history, I used a simplified material palette of wood and concrete, creating a neutral backdrop that highlights the artworks and ensures a cohesive contemporary aesthetic. Key historical elements were preserved, blending old and new to provide a layered experience that respects the museum’s heritage while embracing modern design.

Multi Generational Housing Project

Multi-Generational Housing Project

At the core of this multi-generation living space is the concept of harmony and balance. My goal is to create a design that promotes co-living while allowing each generation to maintain their individuality and privacy.

This is an adaptive reuse project of an existing RISD studio building located on Benifit St in Providence, Rhode Island.

This multi-generational living space is designed to balance co-living with individuality and privacy, transforming an existing RISD studio building on Benefit Street in Providence, Rhode Island, into an inclusive and dynamic home. The design features a flexible layout that evolves with the occupants’ needs. At its center is an atrium staircase under a skylight, serving as a bright, open gathering space. Surrounding this hub are distinct zones for activities such as libraries for children and adults, a shared lounge, gyms, and private living areas for each generation.

The design incorporates a modern and flexible layout that adapts to the changing needs of the occupants. The central space features an atrium staircase with a sky light. Additionally, there are distinct zones for different activities, including a childrens and adults libaray, a shared louge area, gyms and private spaces for each generation.

Natural materials and earthy tones create a warm and inviting atmosphere, while each family unit includes three bedrooms, bathrooms, and communal spaces like a living room, dining room, and kitchen, supporting multi-generational living. Movable partitions and sliding doors provide adaptability, ensuring privacy and autonomy for residents as their needs change.

I wanted to prioritize comfort and functionality, using a range of natural materials and earthy colors to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Each family living space includes three bedrooms, bathrooms, a living room, dining room and kitchen to allow three generational families to live together comfortably. To provide privacy and autonomy, I introduced movable partitions and sliding doors that enable occupants to adapt the space to their specific requirements.
