THE BENEFITS OF KNOWLEDGE SHARING CULTURE IN AN ORGANIZATION
“KNOWLEDGE IS LIKE MONEY: TO BE OF VALUE IT MUST CIRCULATE, AND IN CIRCULATING IT CAN INCREASE IN QUANTITY AND, HOPEFULLY, IN VALUE.”
Louis L'Amour
Knowledge sharing is the process of passing on expertise, information, and skills within people and organizations. In an integrated world, knowledge hoarding, which could be regarded as the unwillingness to share knowledge, can impede the organization’s growth. Employees can make the most of knowledge sharing culture by learning from their colleagues and move forward with the crave for growth and development.
KEEPING EMPLOYEES MOTIVATED ENCOURAGING EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT Through sharing sessions on a variety of topics, employees from different teams can sit together and share their knowledge with their peers. This will create opportunities for increased employee interaction. Also, knowledge sharing fosters engagement because it reflects the employer’s appreciation for employees’ contribution. Employees who feel valued and recognized will deliver higher performance in return.
BOOSTING EMPLOYEE GROWTH Knowledge sharing enables you to get and receive feedback and from those more experienced or with a different skill set. It's amazing how much your peers can teach you in every aspect. In this way, you can stand a higher chance to unlock access to upper management expertise.
ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT The development of each individual adds up to the growth of the whole organization. Sharing knowledge accelerates the productivity of your team. If every employee is nurtured in terms of expertise, they can minimize problems and work more smoothly. Internal training, to some extent, helps the organization reduce cost and still achieve effectiveness.
Learning different skills from your co-workers can urge you to want more and become more. The more you share, the more you acquire from others. Sharing knowledge practices transform employees into a better version of themselves, while encouraging them at the same time to contribute with their own experiences.
BRIDGING THE SKILL GAP Your team can gain new competencies from knowledge sharing. By this practice, the new hires or juniors can easily acquire new sets of skills, filling the gaps in teammates’ skillsets. It’s necessary that you create an environment where everybody is encouraged to take initiatives to ask questions and keep up with the latest information and trends in their field.
Knowledge is the treasure of a wise man”, the saying goes. Building a knowledge sharing culture is inextricably linked to the performance of the employee in particular and the organization in general. Therefore, let’s start digging deep and communicating your organization’s treasure.
