ffiliated with and committed to the South Carolina Baptist Convention, North Greenville University is a co-educational liberal arts institution that provides opportunities for higher education in a biblically sound, Christ-centered environment. The school strives to prepare students to become better, contributing members of society. North Greenville University educates the whole person through an integration of academic discipline, a Christian lifestyle, and an enriched cultural experience while offering students the best opportunities for spiritual growth, academic training, and Christian service. Christ must be the center of the campus for the purpose of Christian education and Christian character-building. On October 14, 1891, at the fourth annual meetining of the North Greenville Baptist Association, a committee of nine men was appointed to determine the best location for establishing a high school in the northern region of Greenville County. The State of South Carolina chartered the institution as North Greenville High School in 1904. The next year the Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention assumed control of the school, renaming it the North Greenville Baptist Academy. The North Greenville Baptist Association again accepted responsibility for the school in 1929. In 1934, the charter was amended to create a junior college in addition to a high school. Fifteen years later, the growing institution was transferred to the direct control of the General Board of the South Carolina Baptist Convention. The school was accredited in 1957 by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools as a two-year liberal arts college, thus discontinuing the high school courses. In 1991, the college reaffirmed its basic commitment to quality education, applying to the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to offer bachelaureate degrees in Christian Studies and church music. The school was given candidacy status the following summer, with its initial cohort of upperclassmen enrolling in the fall semester of 1992. Level II accreditation was granted in June 1994. In 1997, the college’s Teacher Education Program received approval from the South Carolina Department of Education.

In 1997, the college’s Teacher Education Program received approval from the South Carolina Department of Education. On September 22, 2005, the Board of Trustees acted on a recommendation and voted to approve university status and change the school’s name to North Greenville University. The change was brought about by the addition of the T. Walter Brashier Graduate School, which began in February of 2006. In the course of the school’s existence, enrollment has stabilized, the academic program has been strengthened, and campus facilities have been improved Throughout this period of development, the fundamental purpose for which North Greenville was founded has remained constant: to provide a quality educational experience in the context of genuine Christian commitment. The campus setting provides a panoramic view of the surrounding mountains, with the campus itself situated on the summit of a rolling hill amid acres of college-owned land. Most of the buildings on the campus have been constructed in the past few decades, replacing older buildings, which were erected during the first 100 years of the university’s history.

2012 NGU NO RT HFootball G R E E N V I L L ETheUPresident N I V EJimmy R SEpting ITY While many may look to Dr. James B. Epting as the central ingredient in the success of North Greenville University, he is quick to deny the claims and give God all of the credit and glory. Epting has been a member of North Greenville University’s family since 1979. Although he left the school in August 1990, Epting returned just nine months later in May 1991 to become North Greenville’s president and revive the school.

North Greenville has also moved to University status, while adding the T. Walter Brashier Graduate School offering Master of Business Administration, Master of Christian Ministry and Master of Education degrees.

With North Greenville having only 329 students in 1991 and on the verge of shutting down, Epting orchestrated a miraculous turnaround as the enrollment for 2011 reached over 2,200 students. A jack-of-all-trades, Epting has held numerous positions with the North Greenville admissions and student development departments in his tenure. Along with the increase in student enrollment, the school has seen financial growth under Epting’s leadership with its endowment recently exceeding $16 million.

A native of Rock Hill, S.C., Epting received his bachelor’s degree in physical education, master’s degree in special education and earned his doctorate in administration/higher education. He is married to the former Gretchen Moore of Greenville, S.C., and they have three children and four grandchildren.

From the President’s Desk...

As we enter into our sixth season of playing football in our own stadium, we continue to be excited about the progress of our athletic program and especially football. Ms. Jan McDonald, our Athletic Director, is doing a great job as our leader and in keeping Jesus Christ first in our program. First and foremost, we want all our students to either accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior or, if already saved, grow in their Christian walk!! Then, we want them to graduate! Please know that we at North Greenville University remain committed to quality education in a Biblically sound, Christ-centered environment. Also, we want our student-athletes to care as much or more about academics as they do athletics. They do understand the importance of a good education for the future. All our faculty and staff love Jesus Christ and they are being used by Him to make a difference on and off of our campus. This means that we, including our student-athletes, are striving to be the best. All we ask of you is to give us your best in supporting us.

Before moving to the offensive side of the ball, he tutored the program’s defensive line for two years in a scheme similar to that which he will be coaching for the Crusaders. His time with the fledgling Bishops’ program saw many highs for Mooring as he tutored numerous All-Conference and All-Region performers on each side of the ball. His time at NCWC was highlighted by a conference championship and NCAA Division III playoff berths in 2007 and 2008. Mooring lettered four years and started two years at the University of North Carolina under Head Coaches Carl Torbush and John Bunting. During his stellar collegiate career, Mooring spent time at both Defensive End and Defensive Tackle alongside NFL great Julius Peppers and Dorman High graduate, Ryan Sims. In 2001, Mooring was a major contributor on a UNC team which won the Peach Bowl over Auburn.

While at A&T, Ray’s scheme enabled Michael Ferguson to become the Aggie’s first 1,000 yard rusher in over a decade. After a four-year tenure at A&T, Ray served as the Offensive Line coach at Alabama State where he had two offensive linemen participate in the inaugural HBCU Senior Bowl. Ray’s coaching career began at Samford University where he served as the Bulldogs tight ends coach, and his career his path interceded with current NGU Head Coach Carroll McCray. McCray served as one of Ray’s mentors during his formidable years in coaching. Coach Ray was a three-year starter at center for Southern Mississippi and a teammate of future NFL Hall of Famer, Brett Favre. Ray graduated from USM in 1995 with a degree in Business Administration. Kenneth Ray begins his first year at North Greenville as the program’s Offensive Coordinator. Additionally, he will lead the offensive line for the Crusader program. A coaching veteran of fifteen years, Ray has served as an offensive line or tight ends coach at schools stretching from Birmingham, Alabama to the prairies of Iowa. NORTH GREENVILLE FOOTBALL 2012 A LOOK AHEAD

2012 NGU NO RT HFootball G R E E N V I L L E U N2012 I VSeason E R SOutlook ITY NEW FACES

HIGH EXPECTATIONS A [A LOOK AT THE 2012 NORTH GREENVILLE CRUSADERS]

fter a myriad of changes during the offseason, the North Greenville football program looks to build on their recent success. The Crusaders have compiled a 20-6 record over the past two seasons; including an 11-3 record and the school’s first ever trip to the NCAA Division II Playoffs in 2011. “Our recent success translates into the offseason as much as it does during the season,” said first year head coach Carroll McCray. “We are trying to build on the success we have had and be better than we used to be. The guys know what it takes to win and how to work hard to prepare for the season.”

Fellow freshmen Trey Walker and Classe Thompson will battle for carries throughout the season. Junior Nick Lilly will transition from tight end to fullback in the new offense in order to provide size and an inside runner for the North Greenville rushing attack.

OFFENSE Quarterbacks: With the graduation of former Crusader Willy Korn, the offense is left looking for a new face under center. The position battle this offseason centers around freshman Nelson Hughes and sophomore Joey Carter, neither of which has seen substantial time on the field. However, both Hughes and Carter do possess strong arms and project more as pocket passers rather than the usual mobile quarterbacks Crusader fans are used to. The most experienced quarterback on the roster is senior Aaron Siegler who will be recovering from a shoulder injury suffered late last season. Running Backs: Normally the running back position is where the Crusader offense shines and displays its strength. However, with just one running back returning from the 2011 season, a host of new faces will see time in the backfield. Freshman Darius Custard will finally see the field after a redshirt season on the sideline, while incoming freshmen Ashton Heard and Darius Paulk are expected to contribute right away.

Freddie Martino Junior Wide Receiver

NGUH Football Season N2012 O RT G R E E N V I L L E U 2012 NIV E ROutlook SITY Wide Receivers/Tight Ends: The Crusaders return eight receivers from last season including starters Freddie Martino and Sean Wright. Martino, a junior, led the Crusaders with 66 receptions for 1, 007 yards and seven touchdowns, while the senior Wright hauled in a team-high 11 touchdowns among his 37 receptions for 612 yards. Slot receiver Harold Small returns for his senior season after catching 25 passes for 346 yards and five touchdowns. Fellow seniors Daniel Adderley, Taylor Malphrus and Troy Jones provide depth, while senior tight end Lawrence returns after starting 13 games in 2011. Senior Kamrie Connell makes the switch from receiver to tight end in order to provide more depth at the position and freshman receiver Thomas Weeks is also expected to have an immediate impact.

Offensive Line: North Greenville’s offense will find its leadership and strength among the offensive line as five upperclassmen return for McCray and his staff. Chancellor Hudson, a three-year starter, is back for his senior season to protect the quarterback’s blind side. Junior center Jake Morris is also back to solidify the middle of the line, while senior Sterling Ward and juniors Ryan Thurn and Will Beacham provide depth and experience along the front line. Matt Rochester, who returns after a redshirt season on the sideline, has shown plenty of promise in the spring and summer and is projected to battle for a starting spot. McCray on the offense: “We are going to have a young guy taking snaps for us under center so we want to surround him with guys who have talent and can teach him the ropes and the season progresses. We have solid linemen returning and almost all of our receiving corps as well. We will look to guys like Hudson and Morris to lead this offense. We also have skilled playmakers like Martino, Small, Malphrus and Jones, while Wright and Chastang give us options in the red zone.”

DEFENSE Defensive Line: The strength of the Crusader defense lies within the defensive line as all three starters possess a great deal of experience. Junior Zach Epting shifts from defensive end to nose tackle in the 3-4 defensive scheme after recording 45 tackles in 2011. Senior Stefan Bynoe and junior Michael Klein will start on opposite ends of the line. Linebackers: The second line of defense for North Greenville boasts the team’s most fearless defender in senior Jonathon Sharpe. In 2011, Sharpe ranked second on the team with 79 tackles, including a team-high 11.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. Junior Braelen Meredith will return for his second season as a starter, while senior AJ Jones will look to become a full-time starter in the middle of the defense. Joining Jones in the middle will be sophomore Nick Rogers who will get his first glance at significant playing time after playing sparingly last season, while senior Nolan Grage will provide depth, experience and athleticism from the outside. Secondary: Among the positions that took the greatest loss in experience is the Crusader secondary, which returns just one starter from a unit that allowed 187.3 passing yards per game a year ago. That lone returning starter is senior cornerback Isaiah Johnson, who recorded 44 tackles, 22 pass breakups and four interceptions as a junior. Slated to start opposite Johnson is sophomore Cejay Thomas who saw significant time as a special teams player last season. Both safety spots will see position battles throughout the summer and into the fall. At the strong safety position, junior Brandon Aldridge will have to hold off talented sophomore Taylor Anderson for the starting job.

2012 NGU NO RT HFootball G R E E N V I L L E U N2012 I VSeason E R SOutlook ITY Last season Aldridge played in seven games totaling only six tackles and two pass breakups, while Anderson saw action in nine games, recording 16 tackles, two pass breakups and one interception. Two upperclassmen will vie for the starting free safety position as senior Darren Foster and junior Paul Scott continue to show improvement. The two have each spent their time as Crusaders as quality backups and special teams contributors .

Braelen Meredith Junior Linebacker

“I have high expectations for this team and I expect our team to prepare for every game we play.”

McCray on the defense: “Last year’s team played a lot of guys on defense so we will have some playing experience in a lot of positions. Defensively, our strength is in our front seven where we have guys who have played a lot of snaps. We lost a lot in the secondary but we have quality guys to fill those spots. On defense we want to play with a high energy level all game, every game.”

SPECIAL TEAMS One area of stability for the Crusaders will be special teams, as the team’s punter, punt returner and two kickers return. Junior punter Jacob Buckley returns after a 2011 season in which he totaled 51 punts, including 19 in the 20-yard line, for an average of 34.2 yards per punt. Johnson also returns as one of the most dangerous return men in the country. The senior has 46 career punt returns for an average of 18 yards per return and six career touchdowns, just one away from tying the NCAA record for punt return touchdowns in a career. Sophomore kickers Justin Gravely and Parker Langford are also back after successful freshmen campaigns. Last season, Gravely was 11-for-16 on field goal attempts and 66-for-71 on extra points. Langford handled the majority of the kickoff duties as he totaled 64 kickoffs, including three touchbacks, for an average of 58.5 yards per kick off. “I have high expectations for this team and I expect our team to prepare for every game we play,” said McCray. “I see a lot of good players returning to provide leadership in every area. Coming off a season like we had in 2011 expectations have to be high in order to win and continue to improve.” If the past is any sign of the future, the 2012 football season with be one for Crusader fans to cherish.

A YEAR

2011

IN REVIEW

If you were to flip through the newspapers across South Carolina in 2011, the sports sections would be filled with college football headlines; a familiar sight in South Carolina during the fall. This small Southern state embraces football as it does barbecue and fried chicken. These headlines covered everything from ACC championships to 11 win seasons, bowl wins, and blowouts. But the newspapers seemed to favor Columbia and Pickens, two cities known for division I athletics programs. The newspapers overlooked the history being made in Tigerville, South Carolina. The season started with a bang for the North Greenville football team. The Crusaders traveled east on Interstate 26 a team on a mission, and returned to Tigerville with a win over a traditional Division II power. The victory was convincing, a 46-17 blowout of South Atlantic Conference member Newberry; the programs first ever win over a SAC team. While some would argue it’s cliche’, the Crusaders were sending a message. They were a football team looking for more than status quo, a football team with one goal in mind, WIN A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. To do that, the 2011 version of the Crusaders would have to do what no team at North Greenville had ever done, earn a spot in the NCAA Division II playoffs. The task is already arduous, despite having a scheduling alliance with the South Atlantic Conference; the Crusaders have no conference affiliation making it nearly impossible to earn a bid. The Crusaders were riding high entering the second week of the season, a showdown with Football Championship Series member Presbyterian College. The Crusaders looked to build on the success they had against the Blue Hose in 2010 when they walked out of Bailey Memorial Stadium with their first win ever over Presbyterian College. The game was played at a furious pace. Both teams scored 14 points in the first quarter. They battled, but two late touchdowns by the Hose in the fourth quarter put them over the top while dropping the Crusaders to 1-1 on the season. n week three, the Crusaders returned home for a showdown with Tusculum. The Crusaders once again proved superior to their South Atlantic Conference opposition. On the back of Idris Anderson’s three rushing touchdowns, NGU downed the Pioneers 27-7. North Greenville’s defense once again played a huge role in the victory, picking off three Tusculum passes, holding the high-powered TC offense to just one touchdown, which came in the 4th quarter. NGU improved to 2-1 on the season, after the win, and looked to use the win as momentum heading into week four, when a trip to Mars Hill College was in order.

The Lions had historically always meant trouble for North Greenville. In 2009, Mars Hill traveled to Tigerville, and handed the Crusaders a 28-0 defeat in Jamey Chadwell’s first appearance as NGU’s head coach. The following year, the Crusaders traveled to Mars Hill, and quickly found themselves in a 23-7 hole. North Greenville mounted a furious comeback, and tied the game at 30 late in the 4th quarter, but a Mars Hill touchdown with 3:18 left in the game put the Lions over the to. In 2011, NGU looked to avoid the same fate. The Crusaders avoided falling behind, and took control of the lead in the 3rd quarter, but the Lions answered with 13 unanswered points in the 4th quarter. MHC rode the legs of eventual Harlon Hill Trophy winner (The NCAA Division II equivalent of the Heisman Trophy) to a 38-28 win. Randolph finished with 220 yards on the ground and one touchdown. Idris Anderson and Teryan Rucker led the Crusaders with one touchdown a piece, while the defense stayed true to form picking off two passes, returning one for a touchdown. A term used often in a football locker room is “short memory”, its meaning is simple; forget about what happened last week. That’s exactly the mindset the Crusaders adopted, especially after looking at week five’s game against Lenoir-Rhyne, a team that has also given the Crusaders problems in the past. NGU’s offense once again put together a solid performance, racking up 344 yards of offense, 278 of which was on the ground. But perhaps the biggest story of the game was the performance of NGU’s defense. The NGU armament clamped down on the Bears’ triple option offense, allowing just 100 yards rushing. Lenoir-Rhyne’s offense was stifled by the Crusaders collecting just 273 yard of offense total; a far cry from the 360 yards the Bears would average per game at the end of the season. The defense forced three turnovers en route to a 35-27 win over their foes from Hickory, North Carolina, that win set the tone for the remaining seven regular season games, and a trip to the NCAA playoffs. The win over LenoirRhyne also propelled the Crusaders into the national rankings.

NGUH Football N2012 O RT G R E E N V I L L E U N2011 I VSeason E R SRecap ITY North Greenville would go on to rattle off seven straight wins to end the season. The Crusaders’ resume’ was impressive boasting wins over perennial Division II powers Carson Newman and Wingate Universities. NGU finished the regular season with a school best 9-2 record while collecting wins over every South Atlantic team but Mars Hill. More impressively, the Crusaders won their final seven games by a total score of 260 to 67. In the final game of the season NGU broke the school’s scoring record with a 63-0 drubbing of Notre Dame College, Ohio.

In the year 2011, the North Greenville Crusaders rewrote the record books. The same team that finished the season 2-9 just two years ago was now on the verge of the first NCAA Division II playoff birth in school history. On a Sunday afternoon in November, the Crusaders tuned into an NCAA online broadcast, where it learned it had indeed done what many said was improbable. NGU was matched up to host Albany State University in the first round of the NCAA Division II playoffs. The Crusaders saw little resistance from the Golden Rams in their first ever playoff game. NGU exploded for 35 points in the second quarter, to take a 42-7 lead into intermission. The Crusaders would go on to break the school scoring record, (set just a week ago) with a 63-point showing, in which they scored touchdowns on the ground, through the air, an interception return on defense, and two kick returns by Cedric Proctor and Isaiah Johnson. The 63-14 thumping of Albany, propelled NGU into the second round showdown with a familiar foe.

NGU would square off with the Lions of Mars Hill College, for the 4th time in 3 years. It is safe to say that the Crusaders took the round two, playoff game personal. The previous two meetings, including the regular season matchup just over 2 months ago were decided by just 16 points combined; the Crusaders on the short end of both meetings. There would no lack of motivation for the Crusaders as they entered the game as the un-questioned underdogs, the norm for the squad in 2011.

The first half had the makings of a heavyweight bout with both teams landing punches. The Crusaders led for much of the first 30 minutes, but with 3:16 left in the half, the Lions’ Jonas Randolph tied the game at 16, with a four-yard touchdown scamper. The Crusaders had no intention of running the clock out, following the Mars Hill touchdown. Senior quarterback Willy Korn, who had been the architect of so many key drives during the season, led the Crusaders down the field, converting a third down and seven, and a fourth down and seven, on the way to giving NGU a 23-16 lead after hooking up with Sean Wright in the back of the end zone from four-yards out. The third quarter started slow, but ended up being one for Lions fans to forget. After eight minutes of scoreless football, the Crusaders erupted for 28 points in just three minutes of game play, giving the Crusaders a 51-16 lead after a late MHC touchdown. Among the scores in the 3rd for NGU were two rushing touchdowns from Willy Korn, and an interception returned for a touchdown by Jamarius Robinson. The final nail came in the 4th quarter when Nick Rosamonda jumped a pass and took it back 55 yards for the score, giving NGU a 58-32 win over the Lions, the team’s first win over MHC in NGU history. Once again, the win over Mars Hill steered North Greenville to uncharted waters, and once again, this was territory completely unexpected of Jamey Chadwell’s squad. Especially when the Crusaders were pitted against perennial Division II power Delta State, out of Mississippi. The Delta State football program has come on in the last decade, racking up six Gulf South Conference championships (from 1998-2011), three NCAA Regional titles, and one National Championship in 2000. Prior to the game, a quote was posted in a local Mississippi newspaper, exclaiming that many of the coaches and players were unaware of who, or exactly where North Greenville was and is. “NGU WHO” was a popular sentiment. The Crusaders planned on reserving a spot in the memory of all who exclaimed it. Most predicted a blowout, but the Crusaders quickly changed the complexion of the game after holding a powerful Statesman offense to seven points in the first quarter. By the end of the first half, “Fighting Okra” fans were left scratching their heads as the Crusaders took a 17-14 lead into the locker rooms. The Crusaders’ outscored the Statesmen on the strength of two passing touchdowns from Willy Korn to Taylor Malphrus and Sean Wright. Justin Gravely’s field goal as time expired, gave NGU the lead as the team headed in for adjustments.

NGU N O2012 RT H Football G R E E N V I L L E U N I2011 V ESeason R S Recap ITY The Crusaders entered the game virtually unknown, but as the third quarter began, North Greenville was suddenly a real threat. Delta State did little to improve their stance in the third quarter as the stingy NGU defense held the Statesmen scoreless. The Delta State defense also pitched a third quarter shutout, marking the first time either team had failed to score in a quarter during the 2011 playoffs. The Delta State offense would not remain silent however, as they put together an 11 play, 67-yard drive to take a 21-17 lead. The Statesmen would quickly add another touchdown to take a 28-17 lead, with 7:52 left in the game. The Crusaders inched closer later in the fourth with their third touchdown of the game, but the Statesmen would run out the clock, ending the game, and NGU’s remarkable 2011 season. The 2011 season can easily be referred to as the “year of firsts” as the 2011 squad rewrote the North Greenville record books. On top of the list is the programs first ever trip to the NCAA Division II playoffs. Not only did the Crusaders do what many said would never happen due to the school’s status as an independent, they advanced to the quarter finals and took one of the country’s best programs to the brink.

On top of winning their first ever game against a SAC affiliated school, the Crusaders knocked off every team in the conference, dropping only the regular season matchup to Mars Hill. NGU also broke numerous records including largest margin of victory, consecutive wins in a season, and longest home winning streak. For head coach Jamey Chadwell, the season was one for him to remember. “Last year was my favorite year of coaching, hands down,” remarked Chadwell. “To see a group of young men come together and accomplish what no else thought was possible was great to be involved with.” The 2011 season has officially gone down in the record books as the best season in North Greenville Football history. Heading into 2012, a new era begins at NGU as Coach Carroll McCray takes the helm of the now accomplished NGU squad. The Crusaders will start the season ranked in the top 25, and look to make another run at the NCAA Division II playoffs, but this time, with a name recognized by many.

Lead by senior signal caller Willy Korn, the North Greenville Crusaders opened the 2011 football season with a 46-17 drubbing of South Atlantic Conference member Newberry College in the first game of the newly formed alliance. The win over the Wolves set the tone for what would be a record breaking 2011 season. The Crusaders took an early lead when Nick Rosamonda picked off a Newberry pass and took it 50 yards to pay dirt just 12 seconds into the game. Newberry capped the first quarter scoring with a 36-yard field goal with 11:38 left in the quarter. The 4-point deficit would mark the closest the game would be for the rest of the night.

September 17, 2011, Tigerville, S.C., Younts Stadium

Idris Anderson scored 3 touchdowns, and the Crusader defense picked off 3 passes and recovered a fumble, en route to a 27-7 win over Tusculum College. NGU defeated its second opponent from the South Atlantic Conference after opening the season with a big win over Newberry College. In a game where both teams compiled 748 yards of total offense, surprisingly it was a defensive struggle throughout much of the first half. North Greenville struck first in the offensively stagnant first half, making the score 7-0 on Idris Anderson’s 14 yard touchdown scamper. Tusculum looked poised to even the score but NGU’s Jonathan Sharpe ended the threat when he intercepted a TC pass on the Crusader 2 yard line, securing NGU a 7-0 lead heading into intermission. The score held true until t3 9-minute mark of the 3rd period when Marcus Wilson scampered in from 2 yards out, extending NGU’s to 14-0. 7 minutes later, Anderson added his second score of the game with a 17-yard rushing touchdown with 2:40 left in the game. Idris Anderson’s 3rd touchdown of the game came in the 4th quarter and gave NGU a 27-0 lead. The Pioneers finally got on the scoreboard in the 4th quarter Bo Cordell hooked up with Xzanvion Smith for a 52 yard touchdown pass. The scoring lacked for the Orange and Black, but the offensive effort wasn’t lacking as the Pioneers racked up 396 yards of total offense, despite having -3 yards rushing. NGU made a living on the ground, pounding out 270 yards rushing on 61 attempts. Idris Anderson led the team with his 3-touchdown night, but Teryan Rucker led the team with 169 yards.

Freshman kicker Justin Gravely booted three field goals and sophomore running back Idris Anderson scored two touchdowns to lead North Greenville to its fifth straight win and a 25-7 decision over the Catawba Indians on NGU’s annual homecoming day. The NGU defense did its part to secure a 7th win by limiting the Indians to just 216 yards of total offense, while the North Greenville offense racked up 328 yards, 227 of which were on the ground. Idris Anderson gave NGU an early 6-point lead when he lunged into the end zone from a yard out for his first touchdown of the game. Justin Gravely added the extra point to give the Crusaders a 7-0 lead with 5:40 left in the first quarter. Anderson’s score came on the heels of a 63-yard punt return by Isaiah Johnson. Catawba came close to denting the scoreboard in the first, but a 25-yard field goal attempt by Thomas Trexler sailed wide, ending the scoring threat and a long Indian drive. The next points of the game didn’t come until 3:09 in the 2nd quarter in the form of a Justin Gravely field goal from 35 yards out. Gravely’s field goal concluded what was very much a defensive struggle in the first half

THE ATHLETES PRAYER Lord, Please clear my head of all distractions, and my heart of burdens I may bear, so I may perform my very best, knowing that you'll always be there. Please lift me up before the moment, so through your eyes I may see, and have a clearer understanding, as the game unfolds before me. With great courage I will meet this challenge, as you would have me do, but keep me humble and remind me, that my strength comes from knowing you. Then when all eyes are upon me, at the end of this game, I will turn their eyes to you O' Lord , and to glory of your name. -Amen
