WELCOME Welcome to SG-FECC 2021! On behalf of all of us here at the Grossman School of Business, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the eighth annual University of Vermont Grossman School of Business, 2021 Schlesinger Global Family Enterprise Case Competition(SG-FECC). The new name of the competition is due to the generosity of UVM alum Steve Schlesinger ’83. His support of SG-FECC will ensure that family business will continue to be an integral part of the curriculum here at the Grossman School of Business.
This year, due to the ongoing pandemic, we
SG-FECC is still the only case competition in the world solely focused on the issues surrounding family businesses. Our goal to host an event that not only provides an exciting and stimulating competition, but one that inspires all of us to build relationships and networks that deepen the understanding of family businesses, is unchanged.
We hope to return in-person next year and being
have had to transition the competition to an online virtual format. The good news is this will be the largest SG-FECC ever with almost 30 teams participating. I am looking forward to all of you bringing your unique worldviews and family business expertise to the competition. Senior Leadership Committee Mitchell is a senior at the Grossman School of Business concentrating in finance and business analytics with a economics minor. He hopes to use his passion for entrepreneurship to work for a small firm that values teamwork and growth, ideally in the finance field. Outside of the classroom, Mitchell is the president of the UVM rugby team.

Amanda is a senior concentrating in marketing with an entrepreneurship theme and a minor in applied design. As a self-motivated and organized student leader, Amanda holds a variety of positions including being a TA for three courses in the business school. She hopes to begin her career working with a socially conscious firm where she can combine her entrepreneurial spirit with her analytical and creative thinking skills to develop innovative solutions to problems. In her free time, she enjoys riding horses and going to competitions, scuba diving, rock climbing, and baking.

Meg is a human-capital centric and opportunity oriented senior concentrating in marketing with a theme of entrepreneurship. Meg is also President of the Grossman Student Advisory Committee to the Dean, Marketing Executive of the Women in Business Club, and Relations Chair for the Grossman Undergraduate Case Competition Committee. As an intern with the Vermont Small Business Development Center, she’s committed to helping empower entrepreneurs across the state. Meg aspires to use her degree to deliver sustainable and socially impactful work that changes the relationships between business and consumer.

Senior Sponsorship Chair Lindy is a senior concentrating in accounting and marketing with minors in both art and economics. She has served as a co-president of the Family Business Club for the past year and will begin UVM’s Accelerated Masters of Accountancy program (MACC) this coming spring. Outside of the classroom, Lindy enjoys a multitude of crafts like knitting, painting, and felting. When not in Burlington, Lindy loves to spend time with her family on their farm in southern Vermont.

She hopes to use her skills in data analytics, statistics, and anthropology to pursue a company that shares the same values. He served for 8 years on the board of the then Marketing Research Association, finishing his tenure as the Secretary of the Board. He is a founding member of the Insights Association CEO Summit and continues his involvement, co-chairing the events.
ADAM IFSHIN
Adam Ifshin is Founder and CEO of DLC Management Corp., which he founded in 1991. Since then, he has grown DLC into one of the nation’s premier owners and operators of retail real estate, and one of the most active acquirers of assets with value added potential. Mr. Ifshin oversees DLC’s acquisitions and dispositions, capital markets activities,redevelopments, joint ventures, and corporate strategy. As a principal, he has been involved in over $4.5 billion of real estate transactions. Mr. Ifshin received a BA, cum laude, from Williams College, with honors degrees in economics and history, and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Steven Grossman, a 1961 graduate of the business school, was the CEO of Southern Container Corp., a manufacturer of custom corrugated packaging and a business started by his grandfather in 1904. Since 2010, he has been a trustee of the Grossman Family Foundation of Cos Cob, Conn., a charitable organization. He is a member of the UVM Foundation Board of Directors and Foundation Leadership Council; former member of the Business School Board of Advisors 1985-1998; and has been a business school guest speaker on several occasions.

Jim Keller is the President of Green Mountain Business Consultants, a consulting business solving a diversity of issues for International enterprises. He is also President of Rengo Packaging Inc. a packaging manufacturer located in Honolulu, Hawaii. Mr. Keller received a Bachelor of Science from the University of Vermont. He received his Masters of Business Administration from Dartmouth College. Mr. Keller is currently the Chairman of Board of the University of Vermont Foundation and the Indigenous Education Foundation of Tanzania, which provides for co-education opportunities in rural Tanzania Communities.

Lisa Lehan ‘88 is a lawyer and C.P.A. She graduated from UVM with a BS in Business Administration and from Suffolk University Law School with a Juris Doctor. She has been honored to volunteer her services for many charitable organizations over the years. Lisa is currently working for Compass Working Capital, which supports families with low incomes to build assets and financial capabilities as a pathway to greater economic opportunity and out of poverty.
