A brief history of RMIT Vietnam —— RMIT International University Vietnam established (2000) —— First teaching in HCMC commences at Pham Ngoc Thach campus (2001) —— First teaching in Hanoi commences at 2/2C Van Phuc Diplomatic Compound (2004) —— New purpose-built university campus begins operations at Saigon South (2005) —— Building works completed at Saigon South to add additional (fifth) floor of teaching space and offices (2008) —— Opening of new premises for Hanoi campus at Handi Resco Building (2010) —— Opening of Recreation and Events complex (2010) and Residential Centre (2011) at Saigon South campus —— Student population passes 6,000 on both campuses (2011) —— Opening of new flagship Academic Building 2 at Saigon South campus (2012) —— Close to 6,500 graduates in total from both campuses (2013) —— More than 600 full scholarships (2013) given since the opening of RMIT Vietnam.

What’s a census date? The census date is the deadline by which you must take certain actions, such as drop a class or cancel enrolment without financial penalty and fee payment arrangements. The census date applies for each course (unit of study) you are enrolled in. Why are census dates so important? You cannot change your enrolment after that census date. You will have to pay for any study you are enrolled in after this date, even if you are no longer attending classes.
If you do not wish to continue with your studies, you must take one of the following actions by the census date or you will have to pay for the study you are enrolled in: — withdraw from your course — withdraw from your program — apply for leave of absence www.rmit.edu.vn/academic-registrar

Assessment Exams See page 6 Equitable assessment arrangements Equitable assessment arrangements (EAA) are adjustments or alterations to the standard conditions or format of assessment in order to accommodate students with a disability, long-term illness and/or mental health condition. EAA may also be available if you are the primary care giver for a close family member with a disability or long-term physical or mental health condition, where this means
that you require adjustments to enable you to participate in an assessment activity. An EAA does not represent a weakening or lowering of the academic standard being assessed. Students must still meet the inherent requirements of the course and program. Students must complete the Equitable Assessment Arrangements Application form available on the Intranet and lodge it with the Registrar. Applications should be submitted at least four weeks before an assessment.

Student Leadership Awards The Student Leadership Awards are presented annually to three RMIT Vietnam students who demonstrate exemplary leadership skills in areas of social responsibility and service to the University community. Scholarships for current students RMIT Vietnam current students who have accomplished at least 2 full semesters (8 courses) or more of successful study (English for University or undergraduate diploma or degree) may consider applying for a scholarship for current students. A range of scholarships are available to current students of RMIT Vietnam. The selection criteria consider such factors as academic excellence, leadership within the student community, and financial need. See page 13 President’s Award The President’s Award is presented once a year at the Graduation Ceremonies to the graduating undergraduate student who embodies all the exemplary qualifications of an RMIT Vietnam student: high academic achievement, social responsibility and service to the University community.

Special consideration Special consideration allows the University to take account of unexpected circumstances that can affect a student's ability to complete an assessment. Examples of unexpected or extenuating circumstances may include serious illness with a significant impact, loss or bereavement, hardship or trauma. Students must complete the Special Consideration Application form available on the Intranet and lodge it with the Assessment Support Coordinator or Registrar. Applications should be submitted no later than two working days after the relevant examination or assessment deadline. Students can also lodge scanned copies of the application and supporting documentation via email to special.consideration@rmit.edu.vn

Census dates What’s a census date? The census date is the deadline by which all enrolments and fee payment arrangements must be finalised. The census date applies for each course (unit of study) you are enrolled in, and is listed in the academic calendar. The census date for RMIT Vietnam is usually Friday in week 4 of each semester.

If you do not officially withdraw by the census date, you will incur fees for the courses you have enrolled in, even if you are no longer attending classes. There is no provision to extend the census dates for individual courses or individual students.
Class timetables You can select groups for your courses through the Student Timetabling System (STS). Students are issued a notice before the start of each semester, advising them when they will receive STS access for the new semester. Link to access STS: https://dls.rmit.edu.vn/STS/
Clubs & societies All RMIT Vietnam student clubs are organised and run by students like you, with help from the Sports and Recreation Team and RMIT Vietnam’s Student Council. The Clubs and Societies can provide you with opportunities to participate in a wide variety of activities that you may not normally experience. Enrolment To secure your place at RMIT you need to enrol in courses. You must ensure you are enrolled by the specified dates. The deadline for finalising your enrolment and paying all fees is the end of week 4. If you fail to finalise your enrolment and pay the fees, your enrolment may be cancelled. Online enrolment Online Enrolment is a system that enables students to enrol into courses prior to the commencement of their semesters. Students are not required to be on campus to enrol; they just need to access RMIT Vietnam Online to do so. Online Enrolment covers all aspects of enrolment, from enrolment for new students, re-enrolment and enrolment variation for continuing students. Enrolment variations If you wish to change your course enrolment (add or withdraw from courses), you must complete an enrolment variation process by using the online enrolment system (OES). Enrolment variation is open during certain periods of the academic year. Enrolment variation schedule and important notifications will be sent to you by email after your Enrolment/Re-enrolment is

completed. The final date to add a course is the end of week 2 of each semester. The final date to withdraw from a course and still receive a partial refund is the end of week 4. The final date to withdraw from a course without a fail grade being recorded for that course is the end of week 8. Enrolment withdrawal, cancellation and leave of absence If you intend to cancel your enrolment or take a Leave of Absence, you must do so before the end of week 4. Exams Exam rules In order to ensure the integrity of its assessment, RMIT Vietnam takes the administration of its exams seriously. As part of this, the exam rules are strictly enforced. Any students caught cheating or not following the rules will be subject to an academic discipline charge. Take a moment to read and familiarise yourself with the rules before the exam period: https://online.rmit.edu.vn/exam-rules Attending exams Make sure you know exactly when and where exams are being conducted. If you are not sure about a date, time or venue, check with the Student Services Helpdesk. Misreading a timetable is not grounds for special consideration. Provisional exam timetables are published
a few weeks before each exam period. You can view the exam timetables on the Intranet.
Feedback & complaints If you have a concern about an administrative matter, your program or a service, you should bring it to the University’s attention. RMIT University’s Student Complaints Policy aims to ensure that complaints by students are resolved quickly and fairly. It is useful to think your complaint through first so that you are clear about what the issue is and what outcome you are seeking. The complaint process requires that you raise your complaint at the local level first (where the incident occurred). GPA is a number calculation of the mean of the results achieved over a defined study period. GPA is an internationally recognised measure of a student’s academic performance. Health & Safety Health Services Success at University is easier when you are healthy. Life in a university can be demanding at times. But when you look good and feel great, no challenge is too great! Special consideration If you can’t attend an exam or complete an assessment due to illness or an accident, you need to complete and submit an Application for Special Consideration within 2 business days of the exam or due date. You must have the Impact Assessment Statement in Section B of the form completed and signed by a doctor and produce additional evidence to support your case.

Internships
Gaining work experience and a competitive edge Employers prefer to hire graduates with career-related work experience. Laptop program Students in the Laptop Program receive a rebate up to 10,800,000 VND off the price of a laptop. The rebate allows a reduction of fees by 1,800,000 VND per semester for each semester you undertake a full-time program (36 credit points or more), until the full 10,800,000 VND rebate has been received.
Learning Skills Unit (LSU) We support all degree and diploma program students in the development of academic study skills in the following ways: Open-To-All Workshops These workshops are open to all degree and diploma program students in Saigon and Hanoi. They focus more on general study skills development and are not usually course or program specific. The skills focused on include reading efficiently, summarising & paraphrasing, notetaking, task analysis, presentations, exam preparation, and more. You will receive weekly emails about these with information regularly updated on the intranet regarding times and location. Embedded Workshops We work closely with academic staff across the university to develop and provide in-class workshops for students to target specific skill areas needed to successfully complete course specific tasks. Individual Consultations Individual consultations for up to one hour can be made 24 hours in advance with an Advisor who can provide you with specific advice on assessments in your program. Or, if you happen to be in the area, you can
drop-in to get some quick advice to get you underway. SLAMs - Student Learning Advisor Mentors This is a peer-mentoring service that offers you the opportunity to receive advice and support from students who have earned a High Distinction (HD) or Distinction (DI) in their courses, and have been identified by their lecturers as people who have the qualities to be an effective mentor. Money matters Fees and charges Fees and charges depend on your course enrolment and other fees and charges you have agreed to, such as material fees. If you are enrolled in the standard academic year you should expect to be invoiced for tuition fees at the beginning of each semester. If you fail to pay your tax invoice by the due date there is likely to be a restriction of service available for you. Tuition fees invoice Following a review of our tuition fee billing processes, tuition fee invoices are sent to students via email. It is recognised however that some students do need to receive a printed copy of the tuition fee invoice. If you do need a printed invoice, for example to provide to your parents, employer or sponsor, you may make a request to the Student Services Helpdesk, and a printed invoice will be provided.

on a per semester basis. The rental fee for the textbooks is included in the tuition fees. Each program will organise the distribution of textbooks to students in the first week of semester. The textbooks will need to be returned to the ILC staff at the end of each semester. Books need to be returned in good condition. Costs for repairing or replacing a damaged/lost books will be charged to the student.
Making payments Tuition fees can be paid by cash, credit card or direct bank transfer to RMIT Vietnam's account with ANZ. Note that cash payments for tuition fees incur an additional cash handling fee. Other payments, such as for library fines or

If you or your family are having difficulties paying fees in a semester, it may be possible to obtain a payment extension. However, scholarship students are generally required to pay the cost of any courses they repeat. They will also be responsible for any fines issued by the University. Orientation: New students RMIT Vietnam Orientation is organized to provide new students with information about everything they need to fulfill their experience at RMIT Vietnam. Results Semester results are issued by the Registrar in the week before each new semester through official student accounts. It is therefore important to manage your in-box to ensure you can receive your results. The notification email also contains information about clarifying your performance in a course, seeking reviews and appeals. You should note that there are not only different grade bands but different types of grades; for example, some courses award only a pass (PX) or a fail (NN). Cumulative results for your whole period of study at RMIT can also be obtained, by applying for an unofficial transcript of results. Visit the Student Services Helpdesk to do this. Student accommodation Residential Centre is a purpose built international standard student accommodation for over 100 students on campus. Your student card entitles you to use RMIT Vietnam facilities. RMIT Vietnam staff and security guards are entitled to ask you to produce your card on request. You are not permitted to invite your friends or family to use any RMIT Vietnam facilities unless prior approval has been gained. If you lose your student card, report the loss immediately to the Helpdesk. A replacement card will be issued for a charge of 200,000 VND. A temporary replacement certificate can also be issued for a fee of 50,000VND. You will need to provide identification to obtain a new student card or temporary certificate. Your student card is needed to gain entry to exams. It can also be used to obtain RMIT Vietnam discounts.
Student Council RMIT Vietnam Student Council is an elected group of students representing the total student body within RMIT Vietnam. The Student Council shall: —— represent and protect the rights of all members of the student body of RMIT Vietnam in matters that concerns them.
Student Council structure The Student Council shall comprise one (1) President across all RMIT Vietnam campuses, one (1) Vice President, one (1) Secretary-Treasurer, five (5) General Representatives, and a reasonable number of Officers for each campus as determined by the Student Council from time to time. Online databases and subject guides are available at www.rmit.edu.au/library Borrowing privileges Library users can borrow up to 10 items (books, CD-ROMs, DVDs) and must present a valid RMIT Vietnam ID card. Loan periods are as follows: —— 7 days (English, Undergraduate) —— 1 month (RMIT Vietnam staff, Postgraduate) —— 1-2 days (short loan) for reserved items Renewing your loan All items can be renewed if they are not overdue or have not been placed on reservation by another user. Loans can be renewed online, by phone, or in person. There is a limit of two renewals per item for all students and staff. Library rules of use —— The library can only be used by RMIT Vietnam staff, students and alumni. —— Photocopied books are not allowed on campus. —— The IT Rules of Use will be enforced and no computer games or chatting are allowed. —— Food and drinks are not allowed in the library. —— English is the only language to be used in the library. —— Students who engage in any activity which disrupts the use library facilities,
