Buildings today are made up of several subsystems: the load-bearing structure, the mechanical system, the interior spatial framework, and the building envelope. The building skin is a governing system within these subsystems and has to fulfill a wide range of essential functions. Its primary task is to regulate the external climate conditions in order to provide comfortable internal conditions for the occupants. Wall and roof surfaces should respond to local climatic situations and if necessary modify their effects on the interior. The physical needs of the user are the determining factors for the design of the envelope, and most comfort-related parameters can be directly controlled and manipulated through appropriate conception and design of the building skin. - Ulrich Dangel

Our proposal for the Thyssen Office Building is to incorporate the thermochromic glass into the facade of the building. The change of colors on the glass is use to inform the public user the temperature condition of their space. As a collective whole, the colors on the facade are use for aesthetic value for the building.

Consider for a moment that instead of a building being an independent structure in the landscape, it is an integral part of it. Consider that this designed work is more a “bump” in the landscape where, its developed as a human intervention. It is concentrated embodied energy operating within the flow of the greater energy of its environ. Yet at the same time, that designed work is considered an independent entity, though recognized as a component in the greater whole. One way of thinking of this both/and condition is consider the word “holon”. Holons are just that. They are inseparable from the greater whole, yet a thing that can be isolated and considered within that system. They are a whole and a part simultaneously. - Coleman Coker

The proposal for Galveston Island are the water pools on the end of the streets, ramping down onto Galveston Bay. The pools' ramps are use as sea level markers which are meant to give awareness of the water rising on Galveston Bay. The water pools serve as landscape features for the city and the surrounding programs. They are also silent reminders of future flooding and the memorial marker when the island is under water. memorial water pools 27
The goal of this research design is to study the design and construction of Vietnamese "Tube House" architecture – to transform a conventional house program into a mixed–use building that is self–sustaining while providing the traditional comfort of a home. Further development of the research design while be to propose a prototype Tube House that can be customized according to different sites in the Phuoc Truong District and a variety of potential commercial programs leveraged by the residence.
