NHAN DUNG. ARCHITECTURE PORTFOLIO 2017-2018 VIS III INSTRUCTOR: KEVIN, RYAN
CRYSTAL SPIRE Rejected for being too radical in the 1950’s, the Frank Lloyd Wright Spire comprehends many characteristics of his designs. Its location is in Scottsdale Arizona, and even with half of the century later, the spire remains avant-garde very much. Using the tools and interface from Rhino an imitation version of the original Spire was formed through exploration so-called the Crystal Spire. Organized in orders each step of the evolution presented progress with different command and function from Rhino. By the end of the development, the result turns out to be nearly close to the original version but not wholly. Instead of being the original Frank Lloyd Wright spire, the Crystal spire was able to come to be a version of its own with similar geometry. PLANE

Situated in the northern liberty region of Philadelphia, Horizon (Thin Flats) explores the highly efficient and architectural latent capabilities hidden within the traditional appearance of the Philadelphia “Row home. The structure is an extended thin slice of dense, sustainable, and light-deficient. The facade is a surface and a void that blurred the limits of the units within. The complete structure is entirely sustainable which it earns a LEED platinum title for its functionality. The design concept contains various geometry of vertical rectangular shape that extrudes and push back. Within the four residential units, residents will enjoy a perfect living lifestyle.

HUT IN SLED Located in Salt spring state park Pennsylvania, Hut on Sleds is move-able structures designed to be removable to satisfy planning condition. The hut has kitchen/dining/living area, a bathroom, and two sleeping zones, the children’s accommodating a three-tiered bunk. The front facade contains a board shutter folds up across the exterior to expose a twostory glazed facade that houses an open-plan living room and mezzanine bedroom behind. Likewise, more lift-able screens are located on both side of the structure to uncover windows on each side, and behind the parapet walls reveal a hidden roof deck. This type of hut is perfect for a family of five during a holiday getaway; three children can sleep in a three-tiered bunk bed in the back room and mezzanine bedroom for the parent. The hut contains a series of simple design moves. The front with two high front glass doors provides an observation tower view to give the family a perfect view of the outside with enjoying their time in the hut. The design also accommodates an open form of an awning to provide shading in the summer and allow sunlight in the winter. Overall, Hut on Sleds is a sustainable design structure that has a new way of providing a perfect holiday living for families.

SLICE Studio lacks a sense of separation from work and play and also a variety of light that inspires. For this existing site behind the DEC center, we propose a structure that uses one plane to both serve as a functional space and also as surfaces that create different moments of light. The work and rest area is more covered with peeks of light through the openings created by the “sliced plane. The slice then is made into benches on the elevated space. The play area is left open and these strips fold and bend to make spaces to climb on and also nooks to sit underneath. 0

BREEZEWAY Located on 13th and locust breezeway incorporated a design concept that allows air to flow through the open tunnel and cool down the building during the hot season. The building also two abstract space that uses as an outdoor gym and yoga space which also uses the northwest air path to cool down user during their exercise session. Also, a public gym park is open next to the structure to allow the community to come together and exercise during the morning or anytime of the day. Standing from the park, the user also has visibly through the outdoor gym and outdoor yoga space to interact with other users. Throughout the second and third floor, the whole area is exposed and covered with the glass window to allow interconnection between two space. At the center of the building, there is an open courtyard with stair connected from locust through 13th street diagonally to enable pedestrian to walk through and experience the height and central space of the structure.
