Withoutquestioning,thisishowIconqueredthroughmydiagnosisof cancer,notonce,buttwice Withoutquestioning,whengoingthrougha seriousillness,youlearntoknowwhatfaithtrulyis,alongwithfindingthe truemeaningofbeautyandhowyoureallyfeelaboutyourself Iknowthis alltoowellbecauseIhaveexperiencedmanytrialsandtribulationsinmy life Throughitall,IgainedstrengththatIneverknewIhad,andmuch moreconfidenceinmyself,whichledmetolovingmyselfalloveragain.I hadanewbeginning,allonmyown.
Aftergoingthroughsomuchinmylife,thingsweregoingwell,untilithappened I hadahead-oncollisionwithnotonlybreastcancer,butcoloncanceraswell,andit changedmyentireoutlookonlife IthoughtIhadenduredroughyearsbeforebut goingthroughcancerwastherestoftheiceberg Thereisnothinglikeit Youwonder, whatinlifehadyoudonesowrongtohavethisplaceduponyou.Youbeganasking, whyme.YetthroughmytragediesandallthatIhadtoendure,itallbecamean awakeningforme,inwhichIreceivedandgainedallthestrengthand encouragementIneededtoconquer Throughitall,notonlydidIfindthetruemeaningoflife,butmoreonhowIviewed myself Throughallthechemo,radiation,thepainIendured,Istillfeltprettygood aboutme Ifoundmyselflookinginthemirrorevenmoreduringthistime,becauseI thoughtwhatIwasdealingwithsomethingthatwoulddrasticallychangeme,butasI viewedtheimperfectionsonmybodyInowmustlivewith,overtimeitgotbetter, andinsteadoffeelingsorryformyself,Iembraceit I'mstillamongtheliving,whoam Itocomplain.
Whetherwearedealingwithanillnessoranyothernegativefeelingsabout ourselves,ourlives,aswellasourbodies,weneedtobeouron-cheering section Throughallmymishaps,Istillseemyselfasbeautiful,anditisreal Ihavecometorealizethatevengoingthroughsuchadarktime,Istillhavea lifetobelived,andIamgoingtoliveittothefullest.WhenIthinkaboutthe individualsthatarenolongeramongusduetosuchahorrificdisease,I'm trulygrateful,andIwillnolongertakemylifeforgranted Lifeisprecious, andwedon'trealizeituntilwecomeclosetolosingit WhenIthinkofthe “giftoflife”thatwasgiventometwiceover,IknewIdidnothaveamoment towaste Iwouldneversayhavingorgoingthroughcancerisagift, survivingit,receivingasecondandthirdchanceatlifetospendwithyour family,isthegift.Yet,throughitall,Ididnotallowthediseasetotakeaway whoIam,orwhatIstandfor Iamasurvivor,aswellasanexampletoshow thatitcanhappen,andthatIcangoonandlookandfeeljustasbeautiful, inside,andout,anditshinesbrighter

Throughanytragedy,weareand alwayswillbebeautifulandunique! Women,weallknowthatourbodies takelickings,yetwekeeponticking
Iam67yrsofagenow,andIam cherishingeachday,eachmoment,and throughitall,IfeelthatI’matmybest.I ammoreconfidentinmyself,aswellas grateful.Iamstartingover,doingthings Ishouldhavedonebeforecancer.
JustbecauseIhadcancer,doesnot meancancerhadme.Weaswomen shouldneverallowanything,orany circumstancetostealourjoy,norour self-esteem,evenwhilecanceristaking youthroughmanyemotionsandmany unansweredsituations.Attimesyou feelblack-balled.AndIforsureknow withcancer,manytimesyouaretoo weaktoeventhinkaboutyourlooks, becauseyou'renotalwaysfeelingyour best,butattimeswemusttry,evena littlebitandfightpastitandkeepliving
WhenIlookbacknowandseehowfar I'vecame,Ihavetosay,Ithoughtright awaythatmycancerdiagnoseswere trulyadeathsentence,becauseyou're notsureifyou'regoingtomakeit. Cancerhastaughtmenottoblinktwice onlife,myeyesarewideopen,livingmy bestlife.Ialsorealizedaftersurviving cancerbothtimes,thatIwasaboutto facenewbeginnings,newhope,doand seemorewithawholenewperspective onlife.Isharemystorywithothers hopingtomakeapositiveimpacton someonewhoisillorotherwise,where theycanproceedlifeinawholenew way
Oneday,afteroneofthemanysurgeriesIhadduringmybreastcancer period,andIcouldrememberitasifitwasyesterday,Iexperienced somethingsoreal,sopeaceful,somethingofamiracle,thatIhadtowriteit down Iturnedthatexperienceintoapoem,andIcalledit“Peace” Itook thatpoem,alongwithmanyothersIhadwritten,writinghadbecome therapyforme Iamhopingthatanyonewhomayhavetheopportunityto readmypoems,getsoutofthem,whatIplacedinthem,theyareasrealas poemscouldeverbe.Mymostrecentlypublishedbookistitled,“Cancer,Yet CancerAgain,butIwillnotDie,beforeI'mDead”.Ititleditthat,becauseI trulyfeelthatyoushouldnotstopliving,becauseyouhavecancer,andthat isexactlywhatIalmostdid Iheardthewordcancerandwantedtogiveup I amarealist,aregulareverydaywoman,whohaveovercomemany obstacles,whichtookmetowriting,tryingtoproduceinspirationalstories IfIhadnotgonethroughallthatIdid,Iwouldhaveneveranticipatedsuch
Thescarsandmishapsthatarenowattachedtomybodyduetocancer,are justthat Theyaresymbolsforsomeoneelse’sinspirationandhope Iam thankful,becauseifIhadnotstruggled,Iwouldnothavefoundmytrue strengths Notallowinganythingtostopme Iamatrueexamplethatyou cansurvivecancer,notonce,buttwice,providingyougettoitintime Iam notsayingallwillbeeasy,Iamnotsayingallwillsurviveit,whatIam saying,istohavefaith,fightwithallyouhave,thenholdon.Ihonestly believe,whenandifyousurviveahorrifictragedyorahorribledisease suchascancer,itisforareason.Youhaveapurpose,andthroughthat purpose,faith,compassionandstrength,yourtrueselfisbornagain

Q: Can you provide an overview of your educational background and professional qualificationsinmentalhealth?
A:IamaproudAlumofAverettUniversity, whereIreceivedmyBSdegree.Ithenwent on to receive my MBA from Ashford University. I have 11 years experience workinginthementalhealthfield.
Q:What led you to pursue a career in mentalhealth?
A: My passion for understanding human behavior and helping others cope with mental health challenges drove me to pursueacareerinthisfield.Ihadarelative who suffered from a mental illness that didn’thaveaccesstothepropercarethey needed. The lack of access to care fueled my passion to provide services in my hometown.
