Year 7 Preseason training

On Wednesday 4th September, 90% of Year 7 attended the pre-season hockey and netball training sessions at school

We started off with hockey, where we were met by some Year 12's who led the warm up and began with the basics By the end of the hockey session, everyone had been thrown into matches and had lots of fun

Then it was onto the netball, where we had several Year 12 and 13's lead the drills and then we went into playing matches, which was so much fun and a great way to get to know others in the year group

For me, pre-season was a great way to start the school year It gives you a dip into what sports would be like when you start the year You also are given the opportunity to make new friends before starting And for me two of my closest friends are people that I happened to meet at pre-season

U13 tennis team crowned Div 1 county champs

The U13 tennis team received the fantastic news at the start of the new academic year that they had been crowned the LTA U13 Division 1 County Champions, after a very tightly contested league during over the course of the Summer Term

The team faced Brentwood in the final 24 in the regional playoffs, and after an incredibly close match, it came down to the tie-breaker match Unfortunately NHEHS team lost in this tie-breaker, but played their hearts out!

A fantastic achievement and a first for NHEHS!

U18 hockey team’s season opener

The U18 hockey team travelled to Oxford on 19th September to play in the U18 GDST Rally hockey qualifiers, which saw NHEHS face Howell’s Oxford Portsmouth Bath and Wimbledon

With a new team and some Year 10's making their senior debut’s, it was a great chance to dust off the cobwebs and start the season off with some positive team spirit And the team did not disappoint - some close results (1 win, 1 draw, 3 loss) and lots of fun was had throughout the day!

It was a great season opener and allowed the team to develop their goals for the season ahead

Sports Scholars testing day

On the 23rd September, the NHEHS sport scholars were given the opportunity to attended the Advanced Performance Lab to complete some sport testing These tests included a range of aspects from strength and conditioning including speed, Polymetrics and weightlifting

We started our day with a quick game of dodgeball as a warmup before having a briefing from one of the instructors We talked about the relevance of strength and conditioning within our different sports such as how it can prevent injury and make your body stronger and more resistant to fatigue

The first test we did was a 10m sprint Many of us, myself included, found it interesting in how difficult it was to build up speed in such a short spread of distance (especially when I’m used to running longer!) The next two tests included hopping on one leg over the 10m before trying the same thing with the alternative leg This was to test our strength and stability in different legs We were also tested in the impact of a standing jump and our agility In the afternoon we also had an introduction to weightlifting where we learnt how to complete a deadlift and back squat with the correct form I found this particularly useful as it was great to be taught how to do it with minimising injury and how to keep safe when doing it

At the end of the day we were told our results would be sent through to us in the coming weeks and how we can use these results to benefit us with our own strength training Overall, the day was really informative and thank you to the PE department for this great opportunity

U12A team bring home silverware from Ibstock Netball Tournament

The U12A netball team had their first tournament of their senior school career, attending the annual Ibstock Netball tournament

Despite several of the tournaments being cancelled throughout the week due to the wet weather, the U12's had a spot of sunshine to make their first tournament a successful one!

The team finished 2nd out of 12 schools, with some wonderful netball being played by the whole team The team bonded throughout the tournament, and great sportsmanship and positive team spirit were seen in the good moments and tough times throughout the day

A positive start to the netball season for this talented team!

OG team v U18 Netball Match

On Saturday 14th September, the U18 Netball team descended onto the sports hall to battle it out with the Old Girls Netball team for the annual OG Netball match

The Old Girls had upped their recruitment from last year, with several newer faces (Class of 2018) being introduced to the OG team this year

With a good warm up completed and both teams ready, the match began! It was a fun-filled match, with both teams scoring some great goals!

It was a tough match for the U18 team, with no subs on the bench and several having played club matches in the morning However, this did not stop them from fighting for every intercept!

When the final whistle blew, the U18 team came out victorious, but only narrowly!

U13A & U14A at GSA Condover Hall

Our two night stay at Condover to attend the annual GSA (Girls’ School Association) Tournament was full of cooperation, determination and respect The coach ride there was full of laughter, chatting and sweets!

When we arrived at Condover, we went straight into our rooms, put our bags down and went to explore the site That evening we were fortunate enough to have an elite athlete talk, hearing from Ella Bowen and Nat Panagarry.

The first day of netball was exciting as our Under 13s were off site; they won three matches and lost three with one of them being incredibly close In the evenings, many fun activities took place such as; tunnelling, laser maze and zip lining

On the second day, due to heavy rain, our matches were cancelled but that didn’t stop our Under 14 team from playing incredibly well, finishing third overall in the Trophy section

Many thanks to sports staff for giving us this opportunity, we have many joyful memories that we will look back on in the future

It’s been a busy and successful few weeks for our cross country teams A huge congratulations to our Senior School runners who won the girls section of the Ealing Schools Cross Country Championships at Horsenden Hill for the 12th year in a row! There were some standout performances including:

Year 7/8 girls: Maria S-W finished 3rd; Alice W-B 4th; Layla R 5th

Year 9/10 girls: Sofia B finished 3rd

Year 11/12: Natasha B finished 2nd; Suzie P 6th; Isabella P 7th

As a result, all seven students were selected to run for the borough of Ealing at the London Youth Games at Parliament Hill on 16th November.

Our Junior (Year 7-8) team and our Senior (Year 11-13) teams both performed strongly at the Middlesex Schools Cross Country event held in Harrow, qualifying respectively for the English Schools Cross Country Regionals which was held in Dulwich The Juniors finished 7tth out of 18 schools – special mention to Emily C who was 13th and our Seniors also in 7th place with a special mention to Eadi SJ who was 14th Well done to everyone running!

U16 Football success at GDST Rally

On the 8th October, 11 of us went to the GDST sports rally at Northampton High School Our team was a mix of Year 9s, 10s and 11s After a quick warm up, we played our first match Each match was 14 minutes long, with a 2 minute half time, which meant you needed to get a goal in quickly First, you play 4 matches within your group, and the first team from each group moves up along with the next best 3 teams We won our first match 2-0 against Shrewsbury, which boosted our confidence We had around 20 minutes until our next match against Birkenhead, so we ran some drills and had a bite to eat That match ended 0-0, which was ok but meant we needed to win the next one We sadly also drew that one 0-0 against Northampton, this meant that if we didn’t win the match we would not be moving on to the quarter-final We were all quite stressed, especially because the teams got better and better, but we played well and managed to win our last group match 1-0 against Blackheath The result was a relief, as it meant we would move up to the next round instead of competing in the cup competition Waiting for the quarter final to begin, we refuelled with Doritos and smarties and a grape or two Our next match was against Croydon, who were a very physical team We were all getting a little tired, and it didn’t help that it was pouring rain throughout the entire match But we didn’t give up and also won that match 1-0 in order to go to the semi-finals! This was probably the most excitement we had throughout the tournament, we were already picturing ourselves with medals Our semi-final opponent was Oxford, who we beat 1-0 We were ecstatic We were in the finals of the whole GDST rally again, just like 2 years ago Our most stressful match was the final against Wimbledon, who scored a goal around 5 minutes into the match We kept fighting but were sadly not able to even it out and the match ended 1-0 to Wimbledon It was of course a little disappointing and frustrating as we had only lost by 1 goal, but at the same time we were all surprised and happy that our team had come 2nd throughout the entire GDST in an U16’s tournament We tried to persuade Mr Bennett and Ms Dunkley to drive by McDonald’s on the way back, but our convincing very unfortunately didn’t work

U14-U18 Middlesex Schools Prelims

Over two days in October, Miss Millns and Miss Dunkley took the U14A, U15A, U16A and U18A netball teams to compete at the Middlesex Schools Netball Prelim competition which were hosted at St Pauls Girls School and Lady Eleanor Holles

All four teams played in a round robin format, needing to finish in the Top 8 to qualify for the finals

The U14, U15 and U18's won their prelim, while U16's finished 2nd

Congratulations to the U14, U15, U16 and U18 A netball teams that have qualified for the Middlesex Schools Netball Finals in March 2025 - we can’t wait to see how you all do!

British Indoor Ski Champs

On Sunday 6th of October, six NHEHS students met at school bright and early to jump on a coach to attend the British Schools Indoor Ski Races, which was held at SnoZone in Milton Keynes

After a busy registration and checking out of gear, we braved the slopes for our warm up, which was packed with other schools from all over the region

We then put on our race bibs and started off competing in the individual Slalom race We cheered each other on as one by one we descended the course

We had a bit of a break after the individual races, which we used to have our lunch and a pep-talk from Mr Bennett and Mr Desai

The afternoon was then competing in the team Slalom races, which we enjoyed!

Overall, a lovely day out and had so much fun representing NHEHS in a sport that we don’t often get to compete in

OCT Senior Sports Tour to South Africa

Over the Autumn half term, a group of 40 students, ranging from Year 10 to Year 13, and 5 teachers travelled to South Africa to play Netball, Hockey and waterpolo. Students got selected to play either one or two sports, based on their positive attitude, performance and commitment in their chosen sport throughout past school years. This trip was a wonderful opportunity for the students to learn and flourish within their sports

The first day of our trip was the 21st of October On that day, we met at school at 13:00 and left for Heathrow, we had two flights to get us to Cape Town with a short layover in Frankfurt While the layover was short, we still had a ‘lost passport’ scare!

We arrived in Cape Town on the morning of Day 2, and headed straight off to Table Mountain Although we queued for 2 hours to get onto the cable car (in the 27 degree heat!), once at the top, we saw some amazing views with Cape Town, and the sea on one side and mountains on the other We then checked into our lovely hotel and went out for a delicious dinner

On the third day of our trip we had our first sporting activities! After a lovely breakfast at the hotel we headed off to St Cyprian's School to have our first training sessions for our sport. The coaches were highly trained, coaching county and national teams, and taught all the students many valuable skills We had a lovely lunch and proceeded to go to our first matches against Elkanah House School It was a win for all of the teams across all sports After a victorious day, we all enjoyed dinner at City Grill At dinner, students sat with years different to their own, creating a lovely atmosphere within the trip, and portrayed the school's inclusivity perfectly!

Day 4 was extremely informative for all students, after breakfast at the hotel we travelled to Robben Island via ferry Our tour around the island was extremely eye-opening, as well as interesting Our tour guide, a former inmate at the prison, gave a thorough tour around the prison, where we saw Nelson Mandela's cell Overall, all the students really enjoyed the tour as we learnt so much and saw so many beautiful views We then headed to the V&A Waterfront as a group and enjoyed walking around and looking at the beautiful scenery (and doing some shopping) After lunch and a walk, students then headed to their 2nd fixture at Pinelands school, which all teams did well in We then finished the day with dinner at Greek Fisherman.

On Day 5 we had breakfast at the hotel then all headed off for our 2nd training session at St Cyprian's school which included some amazing drills and coaching in all sports We then had another fixture against Jan Van Riebeeck school, with the hockey playing a mixed team - they had some speedy boys on their team! The waterpolo played at St Cyprians, so the hockey and netball players got a chance to show their support by the side of the pool Dinner was at Burger and Lobster

Day 6 was an early start for everyone, with breakfast at 6:30, all was in good order when we departed for our boat trip of the Cape Peninsula and seal island We then had a walk around the nearby market (with seals on the street!) and then headed to lunch We had lunch at Muizenberg beach followed by our surfing lessons which many students were looking forward to After an ice cream and chilling on the beach we left for our hotel We all packed as it was our last night in Cape Town

Senior Sports Tour to South Africa continued...

On Day 7 we had another amazing breakfast at the hotel and then checked out and boarded the coach to Kayamandi township We all had an incredible experience, everyone found it so fascinating and extremely beneficial towards our understanding, we got shown around by different people living there Following our drumming lesson (that included some amazing dancing from the teachers!), we had a delicious lunch in Amazink, the community centre in Kayamandi After our lunch we headed towards Stellenbosch We finished our day by having a delicious dinner, with a Halloween dress-up competition (some amazing costumes by all), alongside testing our general knowledge about South Africa with a quiz!

On Day 8 we had our last training sessions, the hockey players were in the rain but had much fun despite this Waterpolo had a great session as did netball (who had managed to keep dry!). We went to a lovely mall for lunch with shopping being done by many students. Our final fixture was at Rhenish high school, with more wins all around. Netball had a tight game with our best competition yet but still triumphed, hockey had a close match but still won During the water polo match the NHEHS hockey and netball squads came together with everyone cheering and chanting for the players in the pool We then had dinner at Bossa in the evening

Our day 9 was a travel day to Garden Game Lodge We had an amazing welcome with a delicious lunch and swim in the afternoon In the evening we had our breathtaking sunset game drive with one group having the experience of sitting amongst the giraffes to have a drink + snack with the sunset Many groups saw 4 of The Big 5 (rhinos, lions, buffalo and elephants) which are known in South Africa for being the deadliest animals on land After we got back from our game drive, we had dinner at the lodge followed by a small prize giving congratulating people on specific sports and kindness qualities throughout the trip

The last day of our trip started with another game drive, again seeing many animals, one group saw lions roaring and many saw them lying surrounding the cars, while another got the chance to witness a cheetah hunt down a springbok! We then left the Game lodge and headed back to Cape Town to start our long journey home

Overall, we can agree that everyone on the trip had the most amazing time With some unforgettable experiences and memories being made through all of the year groups The sports aspect of this trip was so helpful with some amazing coaches in all of the sports along with some amazing wins Also, the experiences outside of sports were phenomenal, we have all made more friendships and connections through this trip and it really was unforgettable A massive thank you to the teachers who took us!

U14 LISSL Waterpolo League in progress

Notting Hill & Ealing High School (NHEHS) made a significant impact in the 2024 U14 London Water Polo League Known for their growing reputation in youth sports, the NHEHS team demonstrated excellent teamwork and skill throughout the season, competing against some of the top schools which excel in the waterpolo region

NHEHS hosted a key part of the tournament at their home venue, showcasing their strong organizational and competitive spirit. The team played several high-stakes matches, reflecting their commitment and effort In one of their games, the NHEHS players displayed resilience and tactical expertise, earning respect from both teammates and competitors During the first tournament they played amazingly and won each match

While the team did not win the overall championship, their efforts were commendable, and they gained valuable experience This season served as an excellent platform for the players to further develop their teamwork, strategy, and competitive edge With their strong showing, the school remains optimistic about building on this performance for future tournaments

By actively participating in the U14 London League, these games were a great opportunity for their U14 team and younger players who participated

U16 LS Waterpolo League in progress

This term the U16 NHEHS Water polo Team, consisting of Year 9 and 10s, have been competing in the U16 Water polo League

Our most recent league fixture was held at Highgate, where we left slightly early from school, with everyone ready for the tough matches ahead

During the days fixtures, we played two schools, John Lyon and Highgate We started it off with a quick poolside warmup, led by our captains Manpreet G and Emily B, before diving into the pool We kicked things off with a 9-4 win against John Lyon’s School, and then settled down to watch our opponents play, a useful experience as we were able to see their skill and playing styles Highgate won the match against John Lyon’s 8-3, and so we knew that the next match would be tough

Our starting seven kicked off, scoring several goals but also conceding quite a few It was a narrow match, and the result was Highgate winning 8-6 We were disappointed about the match result but the entire team had given 100% and in the end, we were proud of ourselves and it was a great learning experience

We are looking forward to the rest of the league matches after Christmas!

Jaspreet represents England at EU Nations Championships

On the 21st November 2024, I travelled to the Czech Republic with the U18 Great Britain Water Polo Squad Since other teams from the UK, such as the Scotland Regional Team and Sheffield Club, were attending, we competed as England instead of Great Britain On the following day we played 2 group stage matches against Sheffield and Switzerland In the first match against Sheffield, we finished with a convincing win of 19-8 where I scored 3 of the goals for England Later that day, we played Switzerland where we finished the match 21-5 In this match, I was given the chance to take a penalty for England We were very pleased with our performance throughout the day

On the 23rd November, we had our last group stage match against Slovakia Similar to us, they had also won all of their matches but we approached the game with a strong, steady mentality. After a 30 minute match, we finished the match 9-11 to us. This put us through to the semi-finals against Ukraine. In the first half of the match, we were neck and neck with 7-7 goals to both teams However, we kept our heads focused and with a couple of steals and blocks, we finished the match with a 13-8 win! This was an amazing moment as we had now reached the finals and were guaranteed a podium position We went to the Christmas markets and lights as a celebration for reaching the finals but we were determined to win the next match and take home gold

On the 24th November, we arrived at the gold medal match against the home team, Czech Republic We started the game with the commentator announcing the athletes’ names and singing the National Anthem After this, the starting team for England, including me, jumped into the pool ready to play our final match As we began, we won the first swim off however it was soon taken by the Czech Republic and scored I countered this steal with the first goal for England in the finals Throughout the first two quarters, our attacks were taken away and Czech Republic placed the ball in the goal finishing the first half of the match 4-2 to Czech Despite losing in the first half, we did not let this affect our game play as we entered the second half with a positive mindset. After fighting for 20 minutes over the final quarters, we finished the match 16-9 and won the gold medal!

This was an amazing experience and winning gold at my first international tournament will be something I will never forget I have learnt so much from both my own team and also the opposing teams and I tried new techniques which I don’t have the chance to try in England The support I had going into the tournament from friends, students and staff was incredible and was greatly appreciated I am very happy with the game time I was given and hopefully this will be the start of many international tournaments to come!

U15 Hockey tour to Newcastle

The U15 hockey team saw themselves bundle up and head to Heathrow Airport to get their short flight to Newcastle, to attend the U15 GDST Hockey tournament Unfortunately due to the freezing weather conditions, the tournament format had to be changed and all teams played indoor hockey

On the Thursday afternoon, the team played five matches, winning their pool stage and finishing 3rd overall Once hockey finished on Thursday, the team had dinner at Newcastle High School and then settled into their hotel room for an early night’s rest Friday morning saw the team have time to walk around the famous Christmas Market in the town centre, and then it was off to Newcastle High School for the afternoon’s sporting activities The team had a Women’s Health talk from a representative at Newcastle University, talking to the players about their menstrual health, nutrition and injuries After this, the teams were split into two smaller teams and then played another mini tournament with the other GDST schools that they had not faced the day before

The team then had a quick return to the hotel before heading back to the school for dinner, which also included making their own smoothies using the blender bicycle! Then the GDST linked up with The Mintridge Foundation to have a zoom talk from Sarah Jones, former Welsh and Great Britain Hockey player Sarah spoke about her love of sport and how she only got her national call-up at the age of 27!

Saturday morning saw the group finish off their tour with 27 holes of crazy golf, which saw pairs competing against each other for the coveted prize of a slushie! However, Storm Bert had other ideas and by the afternoon we had found out that the flight back had been cancelled – thankfully we managed to book onto the first flight out on Sunday morning!

U18's at the Harrodian Netball tournament

The U18 Harrodian Netball Tournament was a day filled with fierce competition and team spirit, ending in a wellearned 3rd place finish for our team Despite the bad weather conditions, the team demonstrated resilience and determination throughout the tournament

In the group stages, we gave a strong performance, drawing with both G+L and Surbiton, and securing victories against St Benedict’s, Francis Holland Sloane Square and Regents Park, St Paul’s and Ewell Castle We came 2nd place in the division, setting the stage for the semi-finals

In the semi-final match against Latymer, we fought hard but were narrowly defeated, 4-8 However, the team bounced back brilliantly in the 3rd/4th place playoff against Highgate, in a 7-4 win to claim the bronze medal

A highlight of the day was the team’s unwavering perseverance Unfortunately I (Carmen) rolled my ankle just before the semi-finals but the rest of the squad smashed it in the final matches!

U16A Netball County Champs!

We are excited to announce that the U16A Netball team WON the Middlesex county round and are through to regional finals!
