BIRD LADY

Filmmaker: Carter Rostron In this short documentary, Kansas City filmmaker Carter Rostron explores the mystery surrounding a statue that has become known as the “Bird Lady.” For years, an assortment of small ceramic birds and other figures have appeared around the base of the statue. The documentary explores what’s been happening, what it means, and how it has become a beloved part of neighborhood folklore.

CERAMIC RABBIT

Two ceramic rabbits try to rebuild their shattered home as they confront the fear of being broken. Set in a cozy abuelita’s home in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the film portrays the romance between two ceramic rabbits, Hazel and Ben. Their life on a sewing desk is torn apart one day when an earthquake destroys their ceramic house. The fiery and self-sacrificing Hazel resolves to rebuild their home by gathering the shattered pieces and gluing them back together. Along the way, she must face her deepest fears and learns that love and security can be found even in something that broken.

GOD LUCK HOPE

The viewer journeys through a luxury London urban development during which the space shifts from a neo-liberal estate to a more fragmented scene, where the layers of history and memory lie underneath. Temporally the journey also signals a travel backwards from contemporary times to the Victorian era. The film employs digital animation, 16mm and ink paintings.

Filmmakers: Tre Butler & Andrew Scofield Recent film production graduate Eli is entering his second stage of life and struggling to find his own path. He quits his job with the expectation of a job on a big-budget film. While a party is being held at his home, he encounters a woman named Olivia who counters his pride and irritability. Her patient and practical attitude towards life dismantles Eli, and he finds himself questioning his reckless approach to life.
