ROAD SHOW SUPPORT FOR HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE STUDENTS Wiltshire Farm Foods, one of the UK’s leading home meal delivery services, has been on the road offering Dysphagia Awareness training to health and social care students across the country. The roadshow for the 2018/19 academic year concluded at Bournemouth University, where the team delivered two sessions to the Occupational Therapy Society. The two-hour awareness sessions, aimed at Health and Social Care students at various stages in their education, introduced students to dysphagia and the issues presented when preparing food for individuals suffering from the condition. Tasks were set designed to enhance the students’ future clinical practice, highlighting how difficult it can be to make a meal safe for those with swallowing difficulties and other issues presented to carers. Saffron Scott, Senior Lecturer in Occupational Therapy at Bournemouth University added, “Practical sessions like this help bring theory alive; getting a sense of what it might feel like to live with dysphagia is a powerful learning tool which aids empathy and embeds deeper levels of learning.” Wiltshire Farm Foods are planning on running the roadshow again during the 2019-2020 student year. The service is free for all students who wish to participate.
