Environmental Philosophy
We reduce energy use by working with the weather to cold stabilize our wines, moving them outside during winter. This method is simple, effective, and environmentally friendly. We use natural unbleached (dark) cork. Cork is 100% biodegradable and cork trees help to reduce carbon dioxide in our atmosphere. Our wine bottles are composed of light-weight glass, reducing the energy required to produce and transport them. Our foils are made from Tin or Aluminum and are 100% recyclable. rd eating bugs d at work in the vineya Free Range Poultry har

Our Timber Frame winery is built into the hillside, which allows us to take full advantage of geothermal cooling year round. The building is of airtight construction using insulation integrated panels for all exterior walls. We have prioritized the use and reuse of renewable durable materials utilizing reclaimed timbers, bamboo, Vermont slate and repurposed fixtures like our radiators for heating and lighting fixtures.

We have carefully planned our winery and vineyard to work with natural systems. In the vineyard, our focus is on organic farming. Our goal is to maintain a living soil through compost and cover crops that encourages beneficial microbes, insects, and fungi and provides ideal nutrients for the vines. This ecosystem naturally deters pests by encouraging diversity of species. We will not use chemical herbicides or pesticides – we farm the way grapes were farmed prior to 1940 – organically. Great wine begins with great grapes!

A Walk in the Vineyards Duncan Ross, wine-maker at Arrowhead Spring Vineyards, had a vision: world class wine made from locally grown vinifera grapes. His obsession with quality is reflected in the wines. The vineyards slope from North-West to South-East, drenching the vines in warm afternoon sun. The winery perched high on the escarpment offers spectacular sunset views and panoramas of pastoral Niagara County – a literal “feast” for the eyes while sipping the hand-crafted wine is pure pleasure for the palate.
