Podcasting Global Issues that Affect our Society Student Operation Manual

By: Nias Franklin

The purpose of this manual is to give you a step by step instructional tool that will help you achieve success with your podcast. This manual can also be used for future purposes in podcasting ventures. During our lecture we’ve been talking about how to successfully plan and execute a podcast, how to come up with a topic, and the necessary applications you need to put this together. Please follow this outline to guide you on your way…! STEP # 1 – Equipment 

Connect your computer / laptop using an ether connection. You may also use your cell phone, however, using your cell phone will

consume megabytes, if not used with WIFI. Make sure you have a good microphone on your computer. If the audio is low or muffled, then you might have to consider purchasing a microphone at

 

any Tech store i.e. Office Depot, Steren, etc. If you are going to use video then have a webcam on hand. Now for all of your software needs. First, log on to Google and then

download

the

program:

http://www.audacityteam.org/download/ Next, you can read the operations manual of Audacity when downloaded or you can watch some tutorials about it by clicking on the links: http://www.teachertrainingvideos.com/audio-podcasting/audacity-part-1.html https://www.podomatic.com/podcasts/nias-franklin/episodes/2017-0405T21_01_51-07_00 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXB8FsazaJc

Once you are familiar with the application of Audacity, create a podcast account with Podomatic at:

http://www.podomatic.com/home_login/login.

This will be the website where you will publish your podcasts for your teacher and those who you want to listen to your work. For additional information click: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iuq-Q_KCvYg.

STEP # 2 – Podcast Procedure 

First, you and your team need to choose a topic that we’ve discussed in the classroom about Global Issues. Once you have chosen your specific theme

(Culture/Tradition / Political / Social), do some research about the topic. Make sure your topics are truthful and interesting! Here are some websites where you can find interesting info on each of the topics: Issues in Mexico http://www.milenio.com/ Global Social Issues

http://www.un.org/en/sections/issues-depth/global-issues-overview/ Global Cultural Issues http://www3.sympatico.ca/dpaulschafer/HotTopics.html Global Political Issues https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2016/01/what-are-the-10-biggestglobal-challenges/

NOTE: If you use any other website for citation, make sure it is a reputable one! Do not use Wikipedia. It is not considered a reliable source. 

Second, you have to put all of your ideas together onto a script in the form of an outline for your podcast. Please make sure to write out your script on Microsoft word and print it. Practice your speech several times with each other before you record. Once you are satisfied with everything, then proceed with your recording. Remember, you can edit your recording if need be.

Be sure to use Audacity editing software to edit your recording. In your recording you should have, music, pauses, introduction

and conclusion, introduction of members and guests, etc. When you publish your recording on Podomatic.com, consider to have a logo or symbol that represents your team and also your topic. STEP # 3 – Publish your Podcast Once you have created, edited, and are completely satisfied with your podcast series, publish it onto your Podomatic account. Then, email your podcast links to your teacher who will listen and give you feedback. The teacher will then publish your podcast links onto our blog page, http://lenguas6uaem.wikispaces.com/ If you have any other questions regarding anything on the process of creating your podcast then feel free to leave a comment on our blog page or email your teacher directly at nias_franklin@hotmail.com Good luck and get excited about doing these podcasts! Hopefully, they will be just the tip of the iceberg in your knowledge and exploration of podcasting…
