Juan MarĂa Solare Bad Hombres Jumping Over my Wall While Yelling 'ÂĄArriba!, ÂĄArriba!' About the performance
All the piece consists of mini clusters (two minor seconds). The notation can be sometimes obscure (due to the many unavoidable accidentals). To facilitate the reading (deciphering) of the score, the easiest is to follow the highest note of each cluster: they usually form a simple chord. For instance, bar 17 is (melodically speaking) a F7 chord. Got it?
L = Left Hand R = Right Hand
The verbal comments along the lines are not meant to be actually read aloud, but "alla mente" (like in some Satie's music). However, if you want to recite them at concert, feel free.
Program note: This piano miniature was composed for the project 45miniatures by pianist Nicholas Phillips. The overall character of this piece responds vaguely to Nick's suggestion: playful/childish outbursts, in the form of "heckler chords" or "bad hombre-like non-chord tones". The title depicts a surrealistic, clownesque, ridiculous situation; a dream for some and a nightmare for others. For those totally unaware: the expression "Bad Hombres" was used by president Donald Trump during the third 2016 United States Presidential Debate. While answering a question about his immigration policy, Donald Trump stated that there were a lot of drug lords in the United States and that they needed to be removed. He concluded his comment by saying "we have some bad hombres here and we have to get them out." (thus implying that the responsible of US' drug problems are Latinos). * Audio: https://soundcloud.com/juan-maria-solare/bad-hombres-jumping-over-my-wall-whileyelling-arriba-arriba Sheet Music: https://www.sheetmusicplus.com/title/20797715?aff_id=565049
Pianist & composer Juan María Solare (Buenos Aires, 1966), an Argentine living in Germany. The singularity of his music stems from the confluence between tango argentino and contemporary classical, "post-tonal" music (Astor Piazzolla and Karlheinz Stockhausen are his musical grandfathers, so to say). The stylistic elements of his musical Oeuvre include a tendency to aphoristic, a quote of unbribable melancholy and a dose of irony and humor. "Art music and light music are not irreconcilable extremes, but poles in a force field", says Solare about his "musical bilingualism".
After his diplomas in piano, composition and conducting at the Conservatorio Nacional in Buenos Aires, he undertook postgraduate studies with Fritsch, Barlow, Humpert and Kagel (in Cologne) and Lachenmann (in Stuttgart).
Twenty CDs by different performers include at least one piece by Solare. His music has been performed in five continents (Antarctica still missing). Find his music on Spotify, Apple Music etc.
As a soloist or in different ensembles, Solare has given over 400 concerts in Argentina, in Germany (Cologne, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Bonn, Hannover, Heidelberg, Leipzig, Munich, Berlin) and in the rest of Europe (Amsterdam, Geneva, Seville, Madrid, Granada, Oviedo, Svendborg, London, Graz, Istanbul). Last month was his first recital in USA (Texas A&M University).
Currently he teaches Tango Music at the University of Bremen (where he conducts the Orquesta No Típica) and Composition and Arrangement at the Hochschule für Künste in Bremen. He also conducts the orchestra of the Bremer Orchestergemeinschaft.
