Varsity For the 2018/19 seasons, The entire Varsity branding relies on a black textural background with gold elements to draw attention to specific focal points in the design

Tryouts
Recreation For the 2018/19 school year, Recreation has been given its own brand style. It follows alone with the style of Varsity except replaces the black background for white. This is done to distinguish between the two parts of the Athletics & Recreation Department. Varsity & Recreation Both the Varsity & Recreation branding rely heavily on typography and gold elements to keep an obvious link. It is important to include at least one gold element and consistent typography throughout all of the branding for 2018/19.

Logo Varients Colour The colour version of our logos should only be used on a white or extremely light background, for AODA compliance.
Silver Stroke The silver stroke version of our logos should be used on any coloured/ dark or imagery based backgrounds. This logo will most commonly be used with any of the Varsity specific branding.
Black & White The black & white version of our logo should only ever be used when colour is not available for the specific application, or when it is required for branding on clothing or gym equipment in the Fitness Centre.
Clear Space X Spacing All of the Athletics & Recreation logos demand clear space around them. At any size, small or gigantic this clear space is required. The space is represented by the X at each corner of the logo, the X is equal to 1/5 of the width. Shown at 3 different sizes you can see how the space grows and shrinks depending on the size. • If just the wordmark or icon is used, the same rules apply.

The element/copy palette is used to create visual hierarchy as well as act as a barrier between background and text. Black & Light Grey are used as the colours for the Condor element overlay. Black and Grey are used for body copy, black being used for plain copy and grey to draw attention to specific words and visuals.
Typefaces Heading / Title Big Noodle Titling should only be used for headings, titles, and on rare occasions to draw the viewers eye. Titles and main headings should use regular while regular headings or potential subheadings should use the oblique version. Big Noodle Titling should always be used with tracking at 250 to allow for readability and to keep consistent with branding.

Typefaces Subheading / Body Copy Montserrat is used for all body copy as well as subheadings. Its various weights allow for it to be used in a number of different circumstances. Body copy should stay between light and medium, for easy readability. Whereas semibold and bold should be used for subheadings or when Big Noodle Titling is no longer acceptable. Big Noodle Titling is only unacceptable when it becomes illegible or has been overused on a specific page.

LAYOUT
Details Here is an example of how to layout the Typography. The main title should always be Regular Big Noodle Titling, and the largest type on the page. Subheadings should be Oblique Big Noodle, smaller then the title and in the opposite colour, e.i. If the title is white the subheading is gold. A good rule for sizing is to always double of half the current size. ei. 12pt for body, 24pt for subheadings, and 48 pt for titles/headings. Body copy should be a regular to light Montserrat in either white or black. The body copy should be between 10-12pt and only bold on important information. Additional elements outside of titles/ subheadings and body copy should only use Montserrat in the appropriate size.

Maintaining AODA Guidelines
Contrast
In order to make our designs accessible to all students and faculty as well as comply with Ontario law, it is important to consider and follow AODA standards.
Use high-contrast colours for backgrounds and text, examples are black and white, orange and white, ect. Try to aim for 70% contrast at minimum between colours
Here we have outlines some important rules and practices to follow when designing for the Athletics & Recreation Centre, as well as what they look like
EXAMPLE
Colour Printed material is easiest to read in black and white, when using colour try to limit it to key areas of text and elements to draw attention Distortion Do not distort text or imagery. The typefaces were chosen because of their style and readability, distorting or altering will remove readability.
EXAMPLE
EXAMPLE
Size When using type make sure that the point size is at least 10, any smaller and readability can be difficult. Columns When writing, try to keep each line no longer then 3 paragraphs in length, (52–78) characters. Leading Leave leading at the default size of larger, when text overlaps it becomes harder to understand.
EXAMPLE
Se, consilibus cae alem, mo et num patu quam ponius iam iam scre dit. Bonsum faucomne viripio, et? Ratur, quis bontem octorio nsuludes hum

Condor Wings The Condor Wings are created using the Condors logo. The wings are used as a detail for Varsity. Mainly seen for L.O.I. posts or symbolizing unity. Sport Shapes The sport shapes take inspiration from specific elements that relate to the sport. They are created to be used both as an element or frame for photography/athletes. These shapes help bring together the Condors branding while creating a focal point as well as a distinction between the specific sports.
Backgrounds Varsity & Recreation The Athletics & Recreation department rely on two main backgrounds to keep design consistent. Both backgrounds as shown here use the same textural element which brings together different sports and activities into one. Varsity relies on the black version to create a feeling of experience and action, where as the Recreation uses the white background to show fun activity as well as openness. Both of the textures are used in key areas and faded to the base colour for type and information to be easily read. *Photography should not be used as a background.

COLOUR PHOTOGRAPHY
Colour Most photos for the Athletics & Recreation department will be in colour. Colour photos should be edited to bring out the natural tones and any gold in the photo from clothing or branding. If athletes are not in black and gold Condor clothing or a ball/bat isn't, make sure to edit the colour to gold and black. Black & White Black & White photos are mainly used for Varsity game posters or when used as an element to compliment typography. Black & White photos should be edited to bring out an even range between bright and dark tones, this contast is key.
