Susan Holliday – Exhibition August 2014
Susan Holliday
We were fortunate enough to stumble upon Susan’s work in our local village hall last summer, during a showing of local ar;sts. At the tender age of 60 she had never considered the possibility of gallery representa;on, yet those who saw that show gravitated to her work: we purchased two pictures and signed her up straight away. Since that day we have shown Susan’s work in the gallery with great success. Susan loves to be experimental, using mixed media to create deep and joyful pain;ngs with an element of Turner’s style within them. For us her industrial scenes are the very peak of her talents, for others it is her land and sea-‐scapes. Whatever your preference, we think she has something for everyone and being York based, makes her one of our more local ar;sts.

Kate & Nick Bentley are very pleased to hold a show featuring the works of Susan Holliday in August 2014 – Susan returns to the gallery with a new series of pain;ngs and drawings, having sold out the first three batches she delivered to us. As a self-‐taught ar;st with (please excuse us Susan) a few years of life experience behind her, we have found many clients and visitors are drawn to her evoca;ve style and subtle finishes. Bils & Rye was formed to give greater exposure to ar;sts like Susan and we would both like to thank you all for your con;nued support. There is a wealth of talent out there! Kate and Nick continue to select new ceramics for the gallery on a regular basis. Not many weeks go by without new arrivals. Mostly from British makers in the UK with the occasional import from makers that have a unique style. Over the coming months we will have several new additions from some of the UK’s finest makers. Watch this space!
