We purpose an architecture that competes with the art, breaking from the norm of loud art and quiet walls. More active architecture generates a more active art, and a more active art generates a more involved experience, benefiting both the viewer and, with the wealthier audience, the galleries. In the research phase we focused on the typologies of art fairs and the events that surrounded these fairs. Through our research we concluded that the art fairs were deemed more “successful” experientially if atypical programs were introduced into the overall scheme. For example, fairs in London incorporated live music in; Basel Miami became as much of a hotspot for partying as for its art. In the Second phase, we developed a generative scheme from an observed ordering system found in nature. From our studies of amoebic growth patterns we developed a system based on branching. Dictyostelium Discoideum
Branching in Aggregating Amoeba Dictyostlium Discoideum, also referred to as aggregating amoeba, are unique in the fact that they respond to the release of stress hormones and begin aggregating in massLZ K\L [V O\UNLY +\YPUN [OPZ WYVJLZZ ]LY` KPZ[PUJ[ WH[[LYUZ HUK ÄLSK JVUKP[PVUZ HYPZL! points, spirals, branching, etc. This study does not explore the amoeba’s need for aggregation, but the principes from which branching occurs. Along with amoeba, trees and rivers are only a few of nature’s beauties that also demonstrate how branching occurs at multiple scales. Reasearch at all scales was conducted in order to better understand how such a diverse and intricate system is created. Although it is unclear how every branch is formed, researchers have honed in on several VIZLY]H[PVUZ ^OPJO PUJS\KL [OL MVSSV^PUN!
In the Third phase, We created our own rule set: larger modules serve smaller programs and smaller modules accommodate larger programs by becoming not only inhabitable, but structural. This rule set both enhanced the required programs of an art fair, and incorporated atypicle programming through placement of a central large theater space.
