Letter from the Editor HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TEAM !!! WELCOME TO SUMMER ‘16 WITH THE NJMAG TEAM!!! IT’S TIME TO CELEBRATE , BECAUSE WE ARE EXPANDING TO DOHA , QATAR ! We have had the opportunity to serve a wonderful audience for the past three years based only in Los Angeles, California and the surrounding areas which has been nothing but a roller coaster ride. Apparently we are approaching a new type of entertainment . SOCIAL MEDIA AND SMARTPHONES !!! We have done our best to accommodate the new go to source , hence my roller coaster comment. It’s not easy having a voice but it is beyond worth it! If God gives you something , you use it to the best of your ability. It’s called WALKING IN PURPOSE. Why Qatar? I personally received an opportunity to expand to the middle- east .I prayed and received my answer so , for the next 365 days we will be working out of Qatar. We are excited for the experience and very open to embracing a new culture. The purpose of our magazine has always been to GLOBALLY TOUCH THE WORLD. Our time is NOW!!! You can’t touch global lives unless you’re making global moves . Year Three is the year of expansion and we are excited for this new journey. This season my team and I worked really hard to produce a breathtaking publication full of laugher , love , motivation , help, and most importantly SUBSTANCE!. 3 Year Anniversary Issue
A Day at the Shoot
Written By: Simone Green
Location: Dockweiler State Beach in Los Angeles, California. The excitement is in the beach air as we await the arrival of the beautiful models Joia Talbott and Whitney Nicole. We walk around the beach to gather visuals of locations that expose the natural beauty of both the models and the scenery. As the models arrive to the beach and step eloquently across the sand, I am captivated by the beautifully made up canvases. Everyone scrambles with the buzz of excitement to make sure everything is set and perfect for each frame of the photo shoot. I was really excited to witness the team of NickiiJean Magazine in action and working to make sure this issue is flawless. The photographer Mercy is preparing by setting the focus on her camera, Demetrius is setting up his GoPro camera to capture every angle of the magic in video, Dymond is making sure the clothing and accessories were perfect for the models. The team works really hard to make every magazine a success and this one will be another one for record.
The sun provided the perfect light to bring out the natural glow of the models and that glow showed as they slayed every frame of every shot. I watched them move in synchronicity as they changed poses causing onlookers to stop and view their beauty. NickiiJean stood aside in awe and proud of choice for this swimsuit edition. There are great feelings when you witness your vision grow and become a reality and it shows in everyone on the NickiiJean Team. They have all worked diligently to make this possible and the models of this issue and of past issues have made this day all possible.
NickiiJean and I have a moment to speak while the models change regarding this issue. She is really excited for this issue; for this issue is an anniversary issue, which is a great accomplishment for a lifestyle magazine. Every issue brings a highlight to fashion for the everyday person, motivational stories of people in our communities, persons that serve their community to make it better, and then there are the models in each issue that are made real and help every ordinary person feel closer to reaching their dream through the work of each member of the NickiiJean Team. Thank you NickiiJean; for allowing me the opportunity to be part of this great team and being able to witness the great moments being brought to life through your vision.

Imagine being the younger vibrant youthful you. Imagine a time when you lived carefree able to run, play and laugh without worry. This may seem like a memory from yesterday and a pleasant thought that brings you to a smile. Now imagine this a young vibrant girl sitting in the doctor’s office, a young girl three days into a jazz and tap class being told she has brain tumors and will need to have brain surgery the following morning. This is the story of Domonique Domo Jones. For 28 year old Domonique every day is different. Some days she is able to get out of bed and wake up and get going and other days her body aches so much she is barely able to move. Despite what she wakes up to she is an overall vibrant and beautiful young lady that just so happen to be diagnosed with a Ganglioglioma; which are tumors that affect the central nervous system. Domonique’s tumor is a benign slow growing tumor, which is managed with chemotherapy that she receives every 6 weeks. However, this diagnosis does not define Domonique’s life. She remains independent still driving herself to and from chemotherapy, very social and active with church and family. Above all she remains happy and maintains the ability spread her positive love wherever, especially when she goes for a doctor’s visit or in for “Chemo Tiiiiiiiime” as she would sing it. In my interview with Domo I asked “what a bad day is for you?. Domo explained to me that bad days are not determined until she gets up to get her day started. Her worst days are after chemo. These days the vibrant young lady is down for at least 5 days, but not out. She gets through the rough days by following the ritual of listening to her worship playlist. She lets this play for hours until she gets tired of it. Domo states “I go through a lot of rough days and hard days and sometimes it can be overwheling mentally more than physically.” But to help her through these times she keeps her mind stayed on Christ and things that are uplifting to help her overlook how she feels.
Domo has been affectionately named the singing patient by the nurses. This is the one thing that she does regularly to help her relax during her treatments and helps her not to focus on the negativity of her illness. She says she sings “everywhere at all times, when I go for my treatments the nurses know me as the patient who listens to gospel music and signs out loud.” Jokingly Domo states she “I can start singing from just one word you say.” many of us we live our lives as an unrecognized inspiration and unsung heroes. Domonique is one of those persons; she never really took into account that people viewed her as strong, because all she has known is medical complications since the age of two and this just became a way of life for her. It was not until she started chemo 6 years ago and she began posting her on Facebook about her chemo treatments that she started being told she gave her followers the push to overcome their circumstances. “My posts stopped them from giving up.” She realized that her struggles were not for her but were an example for others to never give up.
As a student studying for her Bachelor’s Degree in Human and Behavioral Services she dreams to be an Oncology Social Worker. I know with her determination and her motivation she will be great on this journey. Domo is a continuous reminder to all of us, if she can do it so can we.
Guest Blogger
Faith & Fashion Jennifer Armani by
My name is Jennifer Amani, I am a Psychology graduate transitioning into full time blogging. I blog about faith and fashion to inspire others, although when I first started blogging it was mainly an outlet for me, as after university I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do, so in a way blogging has helped me find purpose and passion. I am currently based in the United Kingdom and my background is quite interesting. I was born in Italy and I lived there for a while and then I moved to Nigeria and now I live in London. I am very fluent in Yoruba which is a Nigerian language and also I speak very basic French and Italian. Living in these countries has shaped my thinking, my morals and what I stand for. Through my blog I am able to share my journey of self discovery and growth not only with my friends but with so many other people living in different parts of the world with different backgrounds, I believe that being able to inspire and encourage other people is a blessing and a privilege. Apart from Blogging, I love singing, cooking and I really enjoy dancing.
NJMAG- What do you think living in purpose means? JENNIFER-To me living in purpose means doing exactly what I was created to do or being exactly who I was created to be. So basically being in God’s will. NJMAG- How hard is it for you to walk in purpose on a daily basis due to unwanted life surprises? JENNIFER- I must say some days it is very hard and other days it is easy. I guess it is a choice that each individual has to make. Once I got an idea of my purpose I made a choice to do whatever it takes to fulfil it. The thing is life can make you forget your purpose but there’s something about “writing your vision down and making it plain so that you can run with it” that is what I consistently remind myself and it has always worked for me.
NJMAG- What type of message do you feel your spreading through your gift?
NJMAG- Welcome to Summer, what’s your most memorable summer childhood memory?
JENNIFER-I am encouraging people to express themselves through their style, to be absolutely fearless in going after what they want and also that they can do all things as long as they believe it.
JENNIFER - My most memorable summer from my childhood would be my first visit to Nigeria. It was a completely different experience to what I knew as I was born and partly raised in Italy.
NJMAG- Why blogging?
NJMAG- What would you say your style of blogging would be?
JENNIFER-Blogging has unleashed both the writer and the stylist in me. It has really built my confidence, I can see my growth in every post, I learn new things daily and I am always inspired.
JENNIFER- In terms of my faith blog I would say my style of blogging is raw in the sense that it is very honest, I speak from experiences and daily struggles. For my fashion blog I would say it is classy and chic. I try out different things to see what works for me and what doesn’t.
NJMAG- I’m sure there is something else behind your blogging background, if you could change careers for 24 hours what would it be?
NJMAG- How often do you visit other blogs?
JENNIFER- Lol I think I would be the Secretary of State, I watch Madam Secretary and I find it very fascinating so I think I would love to do that for 24 hours. NJMAG- WHAT’S NEXT? JENNIFER- I am starting my YouTube channel in September which would be called “Real Talk with Jennifer Amani”, where I would be addressing variety of topics such as self love, finding purpose, relationships, and other things. Also as I continue to grow and establish myself I hope to have my own clothing line in the nearest future and possibly start a blogging mentoring program which would benefit a lot of upcoming bloggers, so watch out for that!!! Lastly I’m planning on starting a YouTube channel that would focus mainly on self love, finding your purpose, identity and a bunch of other fun things that are not often spoken about.
JENNIFER- I read every day, so weekends I tend to read fashion blogs, during the week I read faith, beauty and lifestyle blogs. NJMAG- What’s your favourite blog currently? JENNIFER- Currently, my favourite blog/blogger would be Micah Ginelli, I hardly say Goals but she’s fully goals.

Double Joia & Whitney Trouble with
By: S.Miller
Well this is a first. Four times a year we produce wonderful content while highlighting our cover model to help our readers feel uplifted, motivated and ready to enhance the world per season. This issue, we surprised our readers with two cover models. It’s our anniversary issue why not go out with a bang with double the trouble.
HAPPY THREE YEAR ANNIVERSARY NJMAG !!!!
NJMAG- Was there a highlight during the shoot that you would like to share with our readers? JOIA- The NickiiJean Magazine CREW was fantastic and what I loved most is the team made me feel like I was apart of the family. They made me feel like a somebody. They made me feel so comfortable by being very encouraging and respectful every step of the way. It’s not everyday that I’m on set and they treat the models like we are people; like we need each other and not one being superior compared to the next. I will forever remember my time with the Nickii Jean crew. NJMAG- What helps you decide what jobs / projects you will join verses the ones you are not interested in? JOIA- Prayer. I pray about everything and ask God to guide my steps in the right direction. What is for me....is for me. And what is not doesn’t mean I wasn’t good enough but that It just meant it wasn’t my time! TIMING IS EVERYTHING.. NJMAG- How do you stay motivated when things are slow booking wise ? JOIA- Again, prayer and the fact that I have a part time job working with autistic teens, which I adore, but at this moment in life it’s not my passion. I go to my regular job everyday and it reminds me, as well as me reminding myself, that this won’t be forever. Everything I do, other than what I love the most, is temporary. Staying humble and grounded in what I know I’m DESTINED to do are all the things that help me stay motivated. Remembering how much I’ve sacrificed (money, time, energy, tears, sweat, worrying, etc) also helps me stay motivated due to the fact that I know it will pay off in due time. Meet the talented Joia a California Based phenomenon! “ Growing up in Kentucky I was always ready for a picture and always had something to perform in front of my family at home whether it had been a song, skit, or a dance that I had learned or made up. I’ve always seen myself living under big city lights living my dreams while being an inspiration to all that believed their dream was too big. I want to prove and be a testament to the fact that you can make a way when it seems like there isn’t one. However, before fully diving into my destiny, I promised my mother that I would finish college first. In 2012, I graduated college with a BS Degree in Family and Consumer Sciences. My major is Child Studies with a minor in Family Studies and a Home Visiting Certificate. Currently, when I’m not on set, I’m working part time as a Child Care Residential Counselor at a group home for Autistic teens from all walks of life. Although draining and difficult at times, it’s very rewarding and I love every moment of it. “ NJMAG - What were your thoughts when coming to shoot for the cover of our spring issue ? JOIA- I’m so very honored to be gracing the cover of their spring issue. It feels even better knowing that I’m on the cover of a magazine that is unselfishly giving back and bringing awareness to an illness that is so heart breaking. Vaginal Cancer Awareness !!
NJMAG- Is quitting ever an option ? JOIA- NEVER! I didn’t get this far to just get this far. There are too many opportunities out there for us all to be successful and get a piece. NJMAG- What can we look forward to see from you this summer ? JOIA- I never know which is the beauty in this industry sometimes. I love surprises and the Feeling I get when I don’t see things coming. I go day by day.... audition to audition with a smile on my face and a hopeful spirit that everything will work out.
NJMAG- As we continued to interview Miss Joia it all began to make sense why Joia was chosen to be our cover model for the summer anniversary issue. Her heart is just as pure as her images. There is nothing more rewarding than coming across another human being that represents a perfect citizen . Living the “American Dream “ but , In her own lane taking it day by day as she stated earlier in the interview. Everyday is a new beginning another opportunity to push through , to beat the odds , and to walk towards destiny with your head held high. It’s not easy but according to Miss Joia from Kentucky it’s possible. “ To the parents : Thank you for sharing your blessing with the world. We congratulate you for giving Joia your all. Every time Joia stepped on set she gave it her all due to the core of her and what has been embedded in her. The salt of the earth brings flavor that the world isn’t familiar with.My dear friends your seed carries that flavor with confidence. “ -NJ

Whitney Nicole - “ I’ve been pursuing modeling for the past three years but only been able to focus on it full time as of this year .” NJMAG- What made you decide to pursue your modeling career full time? Whitney Nicole - I worked to keep my parents happy , however I wasn’t happy I was living for my parents and not following my dreams . One day I finally took the risk and quit my job to freelance full time and it has been a wonderful experience thus far. Whitney Nicole - Life is too short so I don’t want to waste a second being inside and not exploring and enjoying the world . NJMAG - How does it feel to be so young but to have such a huge audience that are influenced by you online. Whintey Nicole - I am very humble my parents made sure that , that was one of many characteristics to carry. I am more motivated by the people who support me than anything. I feel like everyone is rooting for me so it is a must to WIN!
NJMAG- What future goals do you have that you would like to share with our readers? Whitney Nicole - My goal is to keep growing and inspiring . I gave this my all and that’s what I get in return. All of my hard work. NJMAG- Speaking with Whitney did nothing but reassure me why the editing staff wanted to get up close and personal with our cover model. She is absolutely amazing and photographs like an angel. It was such an honor watching Miss Whitney in her element. Some people are just born with it. MEET COVER MODEL WHITNEY NICOLE...

NJMAG: What do you think it means when using the saying “ I have found my calling in life “?
NJMAG: What’s the most challenges aspect of your career ?
T.Wade: “ I feel we’re constantly searching for the meaning to life; the sooer we find or understand that, the easier it becomes to fulfill our purpose or “calling”. Ask anyone why they wish to be successful and I guarantee you the reason will be to help someone or others. I believe it’s the things we find we’re most passionate about are what we consider to be our callings in life. We use those things, talent(s) or skill(s) as tools to help build, heal and inspire others.”
T.Wade: “The most challenging aspect in my career has been trying to reach a broader audience. Getting the word out about who I am and what I’m about, not only as a designer and creator, but someone who really wants to have a positive effect on lives and life. I have a story; I’m just searching for a way to tell it.”
NJMAG: What inspires you when creating? T. Wade: “ The idea that even I was created is enough to inspire me. I’m also inspired by other creators because without them creating for me it wouldn’t be possible. Every tool I use to create down to the music I to listen to while working was all created by someone. That’s what inspires me. Life and that there is really no limit to how far we can go.” NJMAG: What keeps you in your own lane? T.Wade: “I’m not in a lane, but more like on my own path, on a. Being in a lane would imply that I’m in a race competing against others; I don’t feel that I am. I’m doing what makes me happy. I’m doing me and since I’m constantly learning new things about myself everyday, it’s kind of hard to copy or focus on keeping up with others and what their doing.”
NJMAG: What can we expect to look for in the future? T.Wade: “You can definitely expect growth. As I mentioned before I’m on a journey, so the possibilities of what to expect in the future are endless.” NJMAG: How do we stay connected with you? T.Wade: “Man, Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, Email, Call or text. I’m always available. I generally love people so I’m very passionate about making and maintaining healthy relationships with everyone I encounter.”
NJMAG: Being the man of the season simply consist of motivating , uplifting , enhancing yourself daily so when given the opportunity to share your message your energy will fall into the next person hands for NJMAG: How do you stay focused and motivated when life takes a the better. We commend T.Wade on consistency and unwanted turn? walking in purpose. Every day is challenge but matters the most is not giving up and finishing what you start T.Wade: “Life is one hell of an experience, I’m sure most would agree with. But, although we will encounter hard times I feel constantly with confidence. reminding ourselves of why we started doing what we love in the first place, can help us get through even the toughest times. Also surrounding ourselves with positive people. I keep nothing but positive people around me.” NJMAG: What are you currently working on this season ? T.Wade: “Most brands prepare their lines two seasons in advance, but since I’m not yet in mass production I’ve found it easier to create within the seasons. It’s summer so I’m currently working on beach and outerwear. Things like snapbacks, retro jackets and sweats, crop tops for women and a new style of tank tops for men. Something like a cross between summer and fall. I’m big on showing my tattoos in the summer, but I also love to wear plaid so this task has been fun to play around with. I’m pretty impressed with what I’ve come up with. Besides streetwear I’m working on more cultural/editorial pieces that embrace the heritage of both men and women from different backgrounds. This project has been my favorite.”

COMMUNITY OUTREACH
175 Hours in my Community A healthy community comes from the exchange of helping one another. This the premise of community service and building a healthy environment for all living in the community. Within the city of Long Beach, California, there is a young woman by the name of Nicole Culberson that recognizes volunteering gives her an opportunity to help people’s lives including her own. It gives her the satisfaction of playing a role in someone’s life; helping people who may not be able to help themselves. Nicole has overtime has learned through her many hours of volunteering that while she is helping others she is helping herself by gaining a stronger more confident esteem for herself as well as developing social skills. Nicole began volunteering as a suggestion from her therapist. Nicole felt she wanted to separate and isolate herself from everyone. The suggestion from the therapist was for Nicole to try volunteer www.volunteermatch.org; this a website that matches the perspective volunteer with opportunities to help the community in areas they care about. Volunteermatch has matched over 10K volunteers with agencies they are able to choose to volunteer for. As a volunteer, Nicole has volunteered for events that raise awareness for different causes. Some of the agency events she has participated as a volunteer for are as follows; The Special Olympics World games and Plane Pull, Walk to end Lupus and The Lupus Project, Best Buddies, Tour of Long Beach, Walk for Kids, 2015 King Day Parade, Rock and Roll Los Angeles, and The Run for Autism. WHAT IS AUTISM ? Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and autism are both general terms for a group of complex disorders of brain development. These disorders are characterized, in varying degrees, by difficulties in social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication and repetitive behaviors. With the May 2013 publication of the DSM-5 diagnostic manual, all autism disorders were merged into one umbrella diagnosis of ASD. Previously, they were recognized as distinct subtypes, including autistic disorder, childhood disintegrative disorder, pervasive developmental disorder-not otherwise specified (PDD-NOS) and Asperger syndrome. ASD can be associated with intellectual disability, difficulties in motor coordination and attention and physical health issues such as sleep and gastrointestinal disturbances. Some persons with ASD excel in visual skills, music, math and art.
Autism appears to have its roots in very early brain development. However, the most obvious signs of autism and symptoms of autism tend to emerge between 2 and 3 years of age. Autism Speaks continues to fund research on effective methods for earlier diagnosis, as early intervention with proven behavioral therapies can improve outcomes.

Dear NJMAG, To whom it may concern, I am writing this email on behalf of my client Brittani Groves who is a high school senior at Warren High School in Downey, CA. I have been her behavior therapist for the past 6 months and have watched the daily struggles and hardships her and her family have had to endure. As one of two children, both with developmental disabilities and autism, their parents (who also have their own health issues) have become full time caregivers and have struggled financially and emotionally. Brittani is a very sweet girl and despite the fact that she has a feeding tube, suffers from severe anxiety, and was born without fully developed ears, she still manages to see the beauty in life and desires to be accepted in society for the person she is and heart that she has. This opportunity would mean more to her and her family than anyone else and I hope you guys select her!

Being named as the Queen of Philippine Eco-Couture, she is also proud as a model of her own creations which are very unique, one-of-a-kind fashion accessories inspired by the beauty of nature because it makes a heart smile with happiness. She aims also to promote Filipino fabrics and other Filipino indigenous materials from different regions in the Philippines (like pineapple, abaca, pearls, natural stones and other Filipino materials) at the same time will provide more jobs for creative women. Joyce believes that every woman deserves to feel beautiful and stunning; wearing her creations makes a woman more confident, fabulous and a head turner.

About IDA A handful of designers, thinkers and entrepreneurs created the International Design Awards in 2007 as a response to the lack of recognition and celebration for smart and sustainable multidisciplinary design. The International Design Awards (IDA) exists to recognize, celebrate and promote legendary design visionaries and to uncover emerging talent in Architecture, Interior, Product, Graphic, and Fashion Design. IDA aspires to draw attention to the iconoclasm of design world wide, conceptualizing and producing great work.
