FOLLY In the folly project we, as a small group, were given the task of designing and creating a 8X8X8 foot interactive and inhabitable space. We began by creating small conceptual models and then switching with another group and creating our own iterations of their design. After many iterations our group came to the design made of 3 rectalinear spaces that were created by 3 different “opacity walls. one fully closed, one semi-open, and one fully open. We achieved the semi-open wall by using rope to wrap around our wood frame allowing light through but closing it off as well.

BODY DIMENSION STUDY

FOLLY EXPLODED AXON

With the folly being our first real life size project we were faced with the issue of body proportion and ranges of motion. We did small case studies collaging different freeze frames of different activities together.

As an introduction to the program Rhino 3D, and more specifically the plug in grasshopper, the assignment was to create geometric models in Rhino 3D that were influenced by various generative words. Then run 2 grasshopper programs on the models to create a frame cut and plane cut of the models.

This project branched off of a earlier project which consisted of an edge-fold condition in which I created patterns to then fold to create volumetric shapes. The task then was to take this iteration and manipulate it in such a way that it could balance on a 2X2 inch surface area. Following the design process a mold was made and then cast in plasture to create the final volumetric form.

ARMATURE The armature project was the successor of the balance block. The task was to design an 12X12X18 inch armature that complimented and held our balance block.

In the piranesi assignment we were assigned a piranesi prison and were to identify key or repeated elements in the prison drawing and use those to create our own. I used the columns and bridges as my foundation for my design. I then took the idea of hope and escaping the prison to create a columnade leading to an open door only to find that the bridges leading to the door are a maze and actually never lead to the door.

The Michelangelo project was a class wide collaboration to create a full scale replica of The Last Judgement. We were all assigned a section of the painting and on brown paper the section was drawn and rendered in black, white, and various grey charcoals.

INSERTION The insertion project began with a site analysis of the Alms building. Then moved in to the design process of creating an inhabitable and functional space within the building. My project focused on bringing a communication between each floor, creating vertical circulation, and utilizng the north facing glazing wall.
