Things I Have Learned in Europe:

B o t h s e r i o u s a n d f u n n y, i n n o p a r t i c u l a r o r d e r The U.S. sucks at learning other languages I got lukcy that the U.S. and England have forced the world to learn English Europe is incredibly small The license plates are still so cool Cars are so small and the diesel whine is fantastic Europe invested in its rail system and it really paid off Copenhagen is heaven on Earth The French and Italians know English but act like they don’t to make you suffer The Swiss want to have their cake and eat it too (when it comes to the European Union) The toilettes are unclogable and don’t gulp at the end of a flush A l l b e d l i n e s a r e p a c k e d i n t o o n e a s s e m b l y, f o r b e t t e r o r w o r s e The Swiss Alps are breathtaking I can pass as British (or sometimes German) until I speak Pe te r Zu m t h o r a n d S c a r p a a r e e v e n b e t te r i n p e r s o n t h a n e x p e c te d Window mullions make or break you Pe a n u t b u t te r d o e s n o t e x i s t , n o r d o e s M e x i c a n f o o d Italian pizza is that good, really Europeans aren’t scared to let modern works touch something historic Jack Wolfskin is the European Columbia It rains a lot The metric system is so logical British English is way sexier than American English Europe is very different than America Europe is very similar to America Higher taxes are okay if the government knows how to use the money The Swiss Franc is beautiful Electronics are still dominated by U.S., Japanese, or Korean companies Design happens ever ywhere, not in select rare instances America is incredibly young America is incredible large I will make my children will be fluent in at least three languages Seeing a Defender still gets me excited I t ’s n o t a s s t e r i l e a s I e x p e c t e d There is nothing easy about EasyJet The British electric plug is so robust and awesome Netflix needs to come to this par t of the world Amazon needs free prime shipping

Switzerland is expensive Yo u c a n ’ t t a k e a b a d p h o t o g r a p h God is in the details W h e n d e s i g n i s a r o u n d , i d e a s c o m e n o n - s t o p . I t ’s i n c r e d i b l e The lightswitch for the bathroom is never in the bathroom Showers are big enough to fit a small child and nothing larger Cars have different names than in the U.S., like Maverick Pe o p l e w a l k e v e r y w h e r e a n d f u l l y u t i l i ze p u b l i c t ra n s p o r t Architects are valued Mosquitoes still love to love me Pe o p l e e a t m u c h h e a l t h i e r Cappucino is not meant to be an afternoon drink Cologne loves the Defender Chicken parmesan is not Italian - meat or pasta, not both I t ’s a n i n c r e d i b l y s m a l l w o r l d My fear of being attacked by a small pack of teenagers is more real Yo u c a n a l w a y s n o d a n d s a y y e s w h e n y o u h a v e n o c l u e w h a t i s b e ing said to you. Who knows what I’ve agreed to. Chuffing is an adjective Ulmon maps are a lifesaver I am horrible at French The Swiss don’t understand my puns The Mona Lisa is really small Tr a n s a r e g r e a t , b u t o f t e n t o o p r i c e y American music is commonly blasted while driving nearly everywhere you go Keeping a journal makes the memories much more rememberable. was the best decision I have ever made.
