There are many great parts of Downtown Phoenix but one of the most energetic parts of the city is the arts community centered around 7th street and Roosevelt, best known for monthly First Friday events. These gatherings show off what the community and local artists have to offer and are bustling with young people and creative energy. This energy has helped line the streets with shops, galleries, restaurants, and new university developments. Being down there is really exciting because it feels alive and like a place where things are really happening.
However only a couple streets down on 7th Avenue it is relatively undeveloped with empty dirt lots and quite single family neighborhoods. This made us ask how can we connect the two streets and help expand this energy to 7th Avenue while also giving 7th Avenue a landmark space of its own?
We propose a building that attracts creative people through the vertical integration of the artistic process where one can conceive an idea, construct that idea, then display that idea to the community all in one space.
In doing that we enable a creative community to form along 7th Avenue that will serve as a beacon to energize and attract people to the surrounding neighborhood.
This space will not only serve as the first of many new landmark developments on 7th Avenue but also as a breeding ground for a new community of creatives finally given the space and opportunity to reach their potential.
Not only will this community help revitalize 7th Avenue but their impact will spread to the rest of Phoenix and beyond.
Our target residents are young people involved in the arts, artists searching for a community within Arizona, and people interested in the arts.
Reasons for moving here include freedom to express, collaborate with other artists, gain inspiration, and to be a part of the future hub of events in the community.
