ABOUT ME Educated at the NewSchool of Architecture and Design in San Diego, CA, I am passionate about the driving factors of architectural design. Conceptually, maintaining technical constraints, there is nothing in the world today that cannot be done. When not working I am a passionate sports fan, of all kinds, as competition is one of my most admirable traits. I was born and have lived in San Diego my whole life and thanks to the climate, I love to get out on the golf course to try and master the most self-degrading and humbling game there is. Competition drives me in life but like most sports it’s the teams that work best together that come out victorious. It’s the art of listening and understanding that will prevail in the workplace and working together is the only way to get things done.

DRINKING THE OCEAN
DRINKING THE OCEAN LOCATION San Diego, California CONCEPT Saltwater stills PROJECT Water shortages in San Diego has propelled this design, incorporating a solar still roof. Sustainable features that have become a necessity for life, such as power and desalination plants can be designed into architectural projects to self-sustain themselves. Creating architecture that does not impact the earth is needed to sustain growth and existence. STUDIO Spring 2016 Prof. Dan Manlongat

PROCESSING/ STORAGE After the water, absent of salt and all impurities that the evaporation process removed, it is stored in a room above the recreational center and if needed processed with chlorine to preserve for drinking.
SOLAR STILLS The solar still array on the roof evaporates saltwater and collects the freshwater while recycling the excess saltwater.

PUMP Above the dining area is a mechanical room that houses all the machines that are needed to move water from the ground to the roof.
WATER TABLE A filtered pump extracts salt water from the soil. The water is free of pathogens and harmful microorganisms.

PHOENIX SPEC HOUSE
PHOENIX SPEC HOUSE PHOENIX SPEC HOUSE LOCATION Phoenix, Arizona CONCEPT Sustainability PROJECT Along with traditional solar panels and solar water heaters, the spec house utilizes overhangs and thermal mass on the south side to maintain more constant temperature in the fluctuating climate of Arizona. Do to dry conditions of the area a small pond is sitting directly under the air intake for the central air system. The evaporated water from the pond gets mixed with the fresh air of the outside and not only does it already cool the air, but it adds moisture as well.

NSA+D HOUSING
NSA+D HOUSING NSA+D STUDENT HOUSING LOCATION San Diego, California CONCEPT Fulfilling the needs of NewSchool of Architecture and Design PPROJECT Atop a mixed used structure, the student apartments can accommodate from 1 to 4 people. The layout of the units mimic that of Corbusier’s work where every unit is two stories high and extend across the building to allow for sufficient cross ventilation. Additionally there is only one hallway for 3 floors of apartments to minimize non-rentable space. STUDIO Spring 2014 Prof. Donn Perez

HEART OF KNOWLEDGE
HEART OF KNOWLEDGE SDSU NEW ENGINEERING AND INTERDISCIPLINARY SCIENCES BUILDING LOCATION San Diego, California CONCEPT Multiple discipline science labs around a central gathering area PROJECT Thee major science labs are situated around a central courtyard that from the cafe and gathering space you can see clearly into. With awareness of the other sciences and visual knowledge, collaboration of interest will promote the sciences to work together and help inform each other. STUDIO Winter 2015 Prof. Leigh Pfeiffer

TRITON HIGH SCHOOL TRITON HIGH SCHOOL LOCATION Carlsbad, California CONCEPT Solar still designed into a fully functional high school PROJECT The entire campus of the school is a working condensed form of the earth’s water cycle. Seawater is collected and transported to two different types of solar still and then purified by two different methods. The gym itself is a large solar still that are commonly found on rowboats for survival situations. The building uses the sun to purify and desalinate seawater on the roof and collects vapors as fresh potable water.
