Nico Conti - Individual Biography Dr. Nico Conti was born in Detroit, Michigan. Dr. Conti currently resides in Los Angeles, California where he is a board-certified internal medicine physician at UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine. As a physician educator, he works with medical students and residents as a Health Sciences Assistant Clinical Professor at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine in Los Angeles, California. Dr. Conti is a practicing physician at multiple community hospitals in downtown Los Angeles.

Nico Conti Current Role and Duties Dr. Conti practices medicine with the UCLA Hospitalist Downtown Cohort at Martin Luther King Hospital, California Hospital Medical Center, Olive View Hospital and Barlow Respiratory Hospital. Conti takes a multidisciplinary approach to the treatment and diagnosis of complex medical conditions. Dr. Conti is a strong advocate for patients and their families and strives to be a compassionate physician. Dr. Conti takes a patient-centered approach to building the doctor-patient relationship. Dr. Conti instructs medical students and residents in small group discussions, as well as clinical teaching on the medical wards inpatient. Dr. Conti has worked throughout the pandemic and cares for coronavirus patients.

Career History Dr. Nico Conti completed an internship at Case Western Reserve University in 2018. The American Board of Internal Medicine certified Dr. Conti in internal medicine in 2020. Dr. Conti completed his residency and internship in internal medicine at University Hospitals, Case Western Reserve University and Louis Stokes VA Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio and obtained his California medical license in that same year. While at Case Western University, Dr. Conti wrote cases that the school uses to educate medical students. Dr. Conti also served on a committee that reviewed resident comments to improve patient safety and education on resident rotations.

Research Dr. Conti completed numerous research projects focusing on infectious disease, mechanisms of infection and therapeutics during his undergraduate and medical school studies and his residency. Conti researched persistent viral infections, such as the BK polyomavirus at the University of Michigan. Dr. Conti also studied dengue virus infections and researched potential new therapies. As a resident, Dr. Conti researched clinical isolate samples from patients who had resistant bacterial infections to discover more about their mechanisms of resistance to common antibiotics.

Education Dr. Conti earned his undergraduate degree at The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and his medical degree (M.D / Doctor of Medicine) from Central Michigan University College of Medicine. Dr. Conti was part of the college's inaugural class. While at medical school school, Dr. Conti's peers elected him to be one of two voting student representatives on the curriculum committee where Dr. Conti helped shape the school's innovative program.


Professional Skills and Experience Nico Conti has a background in basic science and lab research for infectious diseases. Dr. Conti's specialty is internal medicine. Dr. Conti provides evidence and guideline-based care that he tailors to the needs of each patient and their unique situation. Internists are primary care doctors who examine patients and provide treatment for many common illnesses and injuries. Internists possess skills in identifying medical problems and providing ongoing care for chronic conditions. As a hospitalist, Dr. Conti practices internal medicine in the hospital, taking care of those who are admitted for diagnosis, treatment and who are acutely ill. Internists are also responsible for preventing disease and promoting the health of their patients. They receive training to manage multisystem disease conditions. Conditions commonly treated by internists include heart disease, cold and flu, diabetes, hypertension, obesity and chronic lung conditions.

Awards During his final year as a resident, Nico Conti won the Resident Teaching Award as recognition for his teaching on the wards and his lecture style. The school awards this honor to only one resident each year.

Philanthropy/Charitable Involvement He actively serves the unhoused population as a volunteer with a mobile health clinic in Hollywood, CA. During Dr. Conti's time as a medical student, he volunteered as an anatomy and physiology teacher for homeschooled students.

Personal Interests/Hobbies Dr. Nico Conti enjoys being in nature, hiking, bouldering, running trails, surfing and creating music in his free time. Dr. Conti was formerly a member of the progressive pop group Rule of Young and is currently working on new music he hopes to release soon. Rule of Young's debut single, "Surrender" amassed more than 40,000 streams on Spotify. Conti writes and produces music and plays guitar and piano and shares his love of music with his late grandfather, Francesco Conti, who was a choir director for many years and leader of the Restored Gospel Quartet.
